We recently visited this hotel for a long weekend. As a platinum ihg card holder I have to say this is the first hotel I have stayed in that has made no effort to welcome me on arrival, add my welcome points to my card or extend the courtesy of offering any additional benefits as is customary at ihg group hotels worldwide. That said, the staff were courteous and helpful and the hotel is stunning inside. The breakfast was disappointing particularly as the selection of fruit was minimal and the cooked breakfast was very poor. The pastries were excellent as one would expect. Service at breakfast was hit and miss and we regularly waited a long time for a hot drink. This was made all the more frustrating as the coffee machine in the breakfast hall was broken on the second day of our visit and not repaired or replaced during our stay! There were no complimentary drinks in the room - not even a bottle of water or a free pod for the nespresso machine. The rooms were very hot even in late October / early November despite the air conditioning at full pelt. The delivery of an iron required 2 phone calls and a wait of 30 minutes. We also waited for milk and an additional cup and this required more than one set of instructions. We were also very disappointed that the beach area was completely closed including the bar and the removal of all sunbeds. I was forced to sunbathe laying on a towel in dirty sand and alongside a load of locals who had ignored the private beach sign and were making the most of a relatively quiet spot for their kids to run wild. The beds were comfy and the housekeeping service was excellent. Our shower head was broken and this was quickly replaced. The concierge and porters were also excellent. On one evening we joined a drink and canape reception at the hotel and the food was superb. It is certainly a stunning venue inside the function rooms. Overall it was a good 4 star hotel. We would return only if the price was right. Collapse

I stayed at the Carlton for a business trip last week and I have to say the hotel has a nice wow factor from the outside. The hotel is old but has plenty of history and i guess that is their unique selling point. The lobby area is not as grand as you might expect compared to other hotels in this class however it is functional. My key observations are as follows: The rooms are huge compared to modern hotels with plenty of storage, so is the bathroom. The rooms were always clean too. The premium room with the ocean view are on the front of the hotel the other rooms with a partial view are on the side, please note there is a massive build project at the back (that they dont tell you about at checkin) that affected my sleep as they start quite early. Make sure you ask for a quiet room if you need one. Good quality blanket WiFi everywhere. I didnt use the gym facilities but i did see one there. The negatives about this hotel are the other additional costs...drinks and food at the hotel are dreadfully expensive especially the drinks. Cocktails are €30+ and food will set you back even more! If you don't mind paying the ridiculous prices then good for you but i would go to some of the nearby bars that are cheaper and offer better value. I didn't use the gym or the spa but i did see one there. All in all the hotel was lovely to stay at, good location, great service but its not as modern as you would expect, some of the additional charges are ridiculous but if you want to go back to the late 80's early 90's then you would like it. Absolutely reviewed hotel, nothing special, contrary! You have nothing in the price which is astronomical! Wifi is not free (only for members of a hotel club), sunbeds on the beach are not free!!! You have to pay FROM 80, - Eur for each sunbed for every day? I really don't know what I actually paid for in this hotel? The only thing that was perfect was cleaning services and receptionist! The room was clean, the cleaners was perfect!!! Everything was beautifully balanced, etc. We bought the upgrade and got a room with a partial sea view. Unfortunately, the room was opposite the hotel, which was two nights party on the roof of the hotel, so we can't sleep for 2 nights, after these 2 nights we move on to the new room. The reception was very helpful. The other room was nice and quit. I understand classic style of this hotel, but the waste in the room is old! Exhausted. Breakfast was good. In this hotel you pay mainly for the name, otherwise I did not catch the main advantage, because you pay extra for all, even though you have already paid big money. Last time we chooses another hotel on the promenade. Carlton absolutely does not pay. I recommend choose another hotel than Carlton Collapse
