The Carlton is by far the most elegant hotel on the Croisette in Cannes. It's presence, marble entrance, and magnificent lobby also in marble are just spectacular, and are from an era of old world elegance. The bars in the lobby are magnificent with huge chandeliers and gorgeous antique furniture and elegant finishings. It is a pleasure to have a drink inside and feel all the royalty and stars that have sat there before you. All the common areas, restaurant, outside patio bar are wonderful, situated right on the Croisette you see the world go by. The bedrooms are quite tired and really in need of refurbishing. The old elegance is underneath, but the bathrooms, carpeting (dirty), old curtains (dirty) need a freshening up in the 2 rooms we took as a family. Maybe there are some that are more recently done, but we upgraded and took sea facing rooms and we were disappointed as it was not fully renovated. After all it is a 5 star hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful and speak some English ... Overall it is a vey elegant lady, and it has the best positioning to go to the beach, shopping and restaurants. Hopefully they will renovate the bedrooms of this hotel soon and bring it back to it's original elegance. A must visit when you are in Cannes. Even if it is just for a café, or cocktail! Collapse

I was prepared to write a review of the Carlton as probably the best hotel I have ever stayed in until a rather unpleasant check out. First the positives. Our booking at the Carlton was transferred from another top Cannes hotel which was under refurbishment. We arrived at reception at midday and were greeted by very friendly, helpful receptionists who offered us a superior room with a balcony if we were prepared to wait an hour .We agreed to this and on return were shown to our room in person by the receptionist who told us that breakfast was now included [our original booking was room only]. This was an excellent deal and the room did not disappoint with fine decor, bed, bathroom etc all first class. The view from the balcony [we were on the 6th floor] was stunning. We really enjoyed our 3 day stay with the charming staff and great breakfast being particularly worthy of mention. The concierge service went the extra mile by charging my phone and providing safety pins [I was in Cannes for the half marathon] Our plan on the last day was to check out then have a quick breakfast before going to Nice airport. At check out,the receptionist gave me a bill for the 4 breakfasts which we had so far. I explained to her that we had been offered an inclusive deal by the other receptionist. We spoke in English but it does help that my wife is a fluent French speaker. She finally agreed to waive the bill. I then asked if we were ok to have breakfast that morning. She said yes but by the time I had grabbed a cup of coffee and a croissant a waiter appeared with a bill for the 2 breakfasts.[ you can stay a night in a decent hotel for the same amount !] I returned to the reception feeling rather annoyed about this. After a few words I returned to the dining room and was met by another member of staff presumably senior who kindly took the bill off me and told me to forget it. I was grateful for the intervention but it was an embarrassing ending to what had been been a fabulous stay in a wonderful hotel. The old adage "A verbal contract isnt worth the paper it is written on" has never been truer. I can recommend the Carlton for all the qualities mentioned by other reviewers but it may be worth having any verbal offers confirmed. I have delayed completing this review for a couple of days as I thought that I may be contacted by hotel management but this has not been the case. Collapse

The service in this Intercontinental is great as in al the others where I've stayed before, the building is also great and with a perfect location, but I asked for a twin room hoping to get as in other locations two bigger beds instead of the ones we got, that will be my only complain as the room is big enough to get bigger beds. Apart from that a very pleasant stay. Collapse
