From entry to check-in to the 8th floor (club floor) with amazing staff - this hotel totally delivered. Last time I was in town I stayed on Syntagma Square (great location)...this hotel offers a shuttle and is a stop for the Hop On, Hop Off tour (both of those things make it very convenient) -- in addition, you can walk to the center of town in about 10 minutes. The decor and food are good - the bar area and pool are very nice. I think my favorite part were the staff and the view of the Acropolis from the restaurant and the 8th floor (club floor with food all day long - really good food)...the 8th floor offers nice amenities and a more than helpful staff - they are kind, smart, informed, and gracious. Loved this hotel! Collapse
Good hotel, but don't bother with breakfast

I stayed at the InterContinental for four nights recently, as all hotels in the centre were booked. The hotel itself was probably built in the mid-1980s, probably to anchor an urban regeneration effort which has only partly succeeded. The area around is a tangle of main roads and some housing; there didn't seem to be much else. However the hotel itself is bright, clean and has been well maintained. It has the feel of the time - cream limestone floors, lots of polished brass and so on, but its not oppressively dated. Internal furnishings have been kept up to date and do not look 'tired'. The strong points of a slightly older hotel are that there's a lot of space - rooms and public areas are bigger than in many more modern hotels, so I felt perfectly comfortable in my room. Overall the place has been well maintained, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Sound insulation from the outside was good and, being out of the centre, there was probably less traffic noise (quiet at night is important for me). As with most older hotels, sound insulation between rooms and between floors is less good. Luckily occupancy seemed fairly low while I was there so most of the time there was nobody in the rooms either side of mine. My room was a decent size, clean, reasonably up to date and comfortable. WiFi worked well; there is a 24 hour business centre and so on. The location has advantages as well as disadvantages. It is non-central (they offer a free shuttle every 30 minutes to Syntagma Square). But it is well placed for public transport - a 2 minute walk to a tram stop at Kasomouli, and next stop in both directions is a metro station (Neos Kosmos and Syggrou-Fix). They are each about an 8 minute walk if there is no tram indicated. Neos Kosmos has a little cluster of cafes and shops, and is a pleasant place to pass through; Syggrou-Fix less so (unless you like traffic, motorbike and sex shops ...). Once you're on the Metro it is an easy trip to most central destinations - I just bought a 5 day ticket (9 Euro) and allowed a bit of travelling time. My only major issue with the InterContinental is the breakfast. If its included in the room rate, they seem to charge around 27 Euro. If you haven't booked with breakfast, it costs 32 Euro. I tried the breakfast on one day, and it was nothing special - the usual buffet, with rather nondescript ingredients (for example non-branded cornflakes and muesli, which are never as good as the market leader ...). The one thing not on the buffet was coffee, and there yo had to catch a waiter whenever you wanted a cup which was hard work. So all in all, a bit disappointing even before you consider the price. But seriously, 27 Euro for breakfast? I ate good dinners in Athens for the price of breakfast at the InterContinental, and it annoys me when a hotel tries this sort of small-scale pricing on extras. But the visitor does have alternatives - there is a perfectly adequate cafe directly opposite the main entrance, and several nice bakery/coffee bars a few minutes walk away at Neos Kosmos where I had a couple of good breakfasts at a quarter of the price. So for you to choose. Overall I would go back for a quiet stay in reasonable conditions, but I most definitely would also continue to take a brisk morning walk up the road for my coffee and croissants, and enjoy the money saved as part of a good supper. (Incidentally, Hotel Managers/Guest Relations Managers etc. - please do not just post an answer saying something like "we carefully compare prices of breakfast with similar hotels to ensure that we are competitive .... " or the like, implying that the price is OK and the customer is the problem - all that sort of reply suggests is that there may be a Complex Cartel in operation - end of rant). Collapse

The attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction make this our number one choice in Athens. We enjoy staying just outside the main core of the city, with the convenience of the shuttle bus for travel back and forth. The club lounge offers a very decent breakfast, tea and coffee throughout the day, and appetizers and drinks before dinner time. Good selection and worth the extra. The Club customer service employees are amazing and will help you in any way they can. Beds and linens are also high quality and the rooms are quiet. The Premiere restaurant is excellent, especially the degustation menu! Collapse

We flew into the Athens airport and took Uber to the hotel at 10 am. The hotel accommodated the bags while a room was not ready until later in the day. The concierge at the desk was helpful on how to spend the day. The hotel shuttle was often full so it wasn't easy to use it to go to the city center. The walk isn't bad to just get their on your own. The room was clean, comfortable bed, a shower (more US style than European a big plus for me as I tend to get water everywhere). Collapse

So I caution you ...this place is not in the city center and while on a map it looks close enough it just isn't. The have a shuttle that runs you back and forth about every half an hour, a tram which is close by, and a bus along the road. The tram and bus rarely ask more money and I couldn't find a way to pay them (I even offered) Definitely go for the breakfast included option. It's like $20 more a day when you reserve but $40 on premises. There's nowhere good to eat nearby. The buffet looked well above average but just south of amazing. Eggs made to order, sausage, bacon, patries, your usual stuff The rooftop bar, while nice, is overpriced. It has a nice open air view of the acropolis but so does every other hotel in the city center which you can go to while you're downtown The rooms are spacious Even by American standards. Mattress wasn't the most comfortable I've ever been on but still very good; excellent by European standards The gym here is good for a hotel gym. The lobby is vast and inviting, very comfortable. Service is a little slow. Staff is helpful Daily cleaning plus daily turndown service Pool area is oversold on the website pics but still ok. In general, it's a nice place to stay but as a tourist who wanted to be on the go from sunrise to late night I would have rather paid more for a smaller room in the city center. If you want the comfort/luxury and don't mind ha ging in the hotel through the hotter parts of the day this place is good Collapse
