I lost my flight cause i woke up late after my long flight from San Francisco. I was not feeling alright knowing that i have late check and have to call my travel agency to find me a flight back to home. Have to carry my luggage and do the rest afterwards such as check out and doing the paper work with the travel agency at the business center. Ali from Intercontinental hotel staff was so much supportive person even he had to try lowering my stress with very good communication skills and engaging with me to do the rest of the unexpected journey through the hotel. I stayed at a lot of hotels and for me the support and the engagement with thw customer during his or her stay is very important for many reasons.there is so much humanity side of this if you know what I mean by. Thank you intercontinental hotel staff for the good experience and lovely journey. Collapse

On the recommendation of our travel agent We took the advice to go somewhere we would have guaranteed sunshine in Feb, this was not to be and in fact the locals advised us not to travel to the UAE between Dec & March. So firstly bare this in mind when dishing out loads of dosh which you will, to get to and stay in UAE. "Oh well they have a spa" I promised my 12 year old daughter.... This was not to be either, under 16 are not permitted into the spa .... I guess they would opt for the *safer* swim with sharks , time filler!! There was maybe a chance of the jacuzzi but this was out of use. We already had pre booked and paid for half board as it is expensive across the UAE in general, this was a daily choice of breakfast and dinner ,OR Lunch , which was helpful when planning a day. The restaurant included in this was buffet style, clean friendly with a good choice of decently cooked and presented food. The other restaurants were ok, but other than the Italian the service we experienced was generally very slow . We had been offered an upgrade to all inclusive at a cost of £91 per day ... For the two of us ( myself and my 12 year old) as we already had half board I declined initially to test if it would be worth it after the first day. I was right to do this , we were talking to a couple who had bought into this so called all inclusive and were very disappointed , only a limited selection of food and drinks were included , (I wasn't told this "small print" by the sales person on reception) And would you believe the portion sizes are much smaller when all inclusive , the couple were referring to the Belgium bar and the mussels they were served compared to the paying guest , which I witnessed myself , the difference was shocking It seemed rather pathetic and dishonest . The food in the Belgium bar that we were served was poor , an over heating, burnt cheese fondu which we'd waited a long time for a then had to send back . The hotel was clean and friendly and a special thank you to Ali on ground level who was a very big help with our departure . The beach is nice .... That's If you shut your eyes to the ugly I'm assuming, temporary wall casing the sea and really hampering any nice view, this I assume is to hide the vast building work beyond which you do get a slight hum from all day . We had a pleasant stay , the weather wasn't great and I doubt if I would choose to visit this hotel again particularly . Collapse

Having only decided on a UAE staycation a couple of days ago we opted for a hotel that we hadn't stayed at before in Abu Dhabi ... the Intercontinental. Check in was fairly straight forward and the reception staff couldn't apologise enough for what was only a short wait in line. The hotel was obviously built a few decades ago but as with the other Intercontinental hotels I've stayed at around the world, the interior has been updated to very modern standards. What I like most is that the rooms are so well designed ... not the largest but they don't need to be as they have everything you need as well as being beautifully decorated. The choice of restaurants at this hotel is extensive and you can't go far wrong at the Belgian Cafe for dinner. At this point we noticed what a large area the hotel covers as it wasn't immediately obvious that there was a beach but venture round the marina and not only do you find another pool and a decent swathe of sand but also another couple of restaurants. The morning saw a visit to another eatery for breakfast which didn't disappoint and it was time to soak up the sun which strangely had been missing for the last couple of weeks. A late check out allowed us to enjoy the facilities for an extra few hours and then after an efficient check out we were on away ... definitely to return in the near future. This ranks up there with any of the top hotels in Abu Dhabi all of which we have visited in the last year or so. Thanks for a great stay. Collapse

The service at this hotel was excellent, provided by lovely people from countries all over the world. Very pleased we went all inclusive - it was great value once we realised the normal prices of everything. The buffet has an amazing choice and whilst all of the separate restaurants also were fantastic (and included albeit some with restrictions) we loved the buffet for its varied menu and very good quality. The gym / spa area was great too, to help offset eating "out" in the hotel 3 times a day! The rooms were fine - spacious and clean. The pools were nice and there was a beach area too. Our only complaint (which to be fair we knew from reviews would be the case) which is not the hotels fault, is the noise from all of the construction which cannot be avoided. So we avoided the beach as the view was across to a construction site. The beeping from the vehicles on the work site was also audible from our hotel room and was our morning alarm! However I would not let that put you off the hotel; if you want to avoid construction work don't come to UAE! The location was great as we like to walk and could therefore walk to places of interest nearby. It was glorious weather and we felt very safe, even walking at night. As the all inclusive deal does not let you take alcohol to your room (?!?) or in case you are not all inclusive, there is an off licence almost within the grounds of the hotel so you can pick up a bottle of wine for a reasonable price there. As a rule we don't go to the same place twice, but only the other day I was saying to my wife I quite fancy going back - more to do with the actual hotel than the city/country, so that for me shows this hotel deserves the 5* given in this review!
