The staff at this hotel are very friendly and helpful. I am always glad to see Andrea and Heather’s smiling faces when I first arrive. They both go out of their way to take care of your needs and make your stay comfortable.

We enjoyed our 4-night stay at the Hotel Indigo in Nashville, but did find it a little quirky. The hotel is modern and conveniently located to all of Nashville’s attractions. We were able to walk to almost everything we wanted to see, especially along the river and on Broadway. Our Executive King room was spacious and had a comfortable bed and “living room”. We had pleasant views of an office building, a nearby historic landmark and a partial view of the river. The room had a safe and plenty of drawer space and hangers (we bring our own too). We originally had a corner room of a lower room class in the old tower, but the front desk was very insistent on upgrading us to this newer and more spacious room. We appreciated the gesture, but it got awkward and caused friction with my spouse. Although the originally reserved corner room was significantly older and smaller (think European), it was charming, featured terrazzo, and had an unusually shaped shower and bathroom. I settled on the upgrade to reduce friction with the front desk (which I sensed would increase if we didn’t accept the upgrade), but it instead caused friction with my spouse because of how the whole process went. I think this offer to upgrade could have been done more smoothly and calmly. The way it came across, it felt like we had to move to another room for some unknown reason. We had only three complaints on the room. First, the electric lighting in the room was too bright and the lights in the “living room” are positioned to shine into the sleeping area. Still, with all those bright lights, the room wasn’t well lit. One light was dimmable, but you had to navigate the couch, a sitting chair, and the drapes to reach and operate it. Adding a few more less bright lights would have lit the room more evenly. Second, the toilet was too efficient. In my opinion, hotel toilets should be more robust and flushing should not be a challenge. Luckily, we figured it out and didn’t ever need a plunger. Third, the HVAC was very noisy when it turned on. It would come on with a “whoomph”! Eventually we tuned it out. The location can’t be beat and we enjoyed having a drink and French fries at the bar. The bar staff was very nice and we also got coffee from them in the morning. The front desk staff was friendly, but more than one was not the best at listening and felt the need to be right more than they felt the need to make a guest feel good. For instance, I was overcharged a dollar for a bag of chips and nicely pointed it out when I went to pay. I was corrected by the young lady, even though the menu said otherwise. I asked the young lady to look with me at the menu board, but she refused and made me feel like she was doing a swindler a favor by dropping the price to the posted amount. In other words, she made me feel bad and never said she made a mistake or was sorry. To allow being overcharged for a $2 bag of pita chips become memorable is a problem. A simple “oops, I’m sorry” and accepting my offer to look at the menu together would have been best. Had I been wrong, I would have done the same. The valet service was mixed, unsupervised and sometimes delayed access to our car. They had a system where you text the valet for your car, but that only worked when the valet had a charged cell phone. At least once our valet did not have a charged phone and didn’t feel the need to charge the phone either. One night, we texted from our room, but still waited 20 minutes for our car. If they were busy, we’d understand, but they weren’t. The self-parking was a better option which we would have used had we had all the details when we checked in. One of the nice folks at the front desk (whom we spoke to when we made our reservation) heard we waited a long time for our car and adjusted our valet charges. This was very generous and not asked for. This is proactive customer service. We do recommend that you choose self-parking, no matter what the valets say. The parking garage is an easy drive around the corner and offers a hotel entrance. You simply choose overnight hotel parking and select the number of nights you need. Despite all this kvetching, we would stay at the Hotel Indigo again. We think it is fundamentally good, but some of the items above can be frustrating. Collapse
