Such a pleasant and helpful girl called Rachel checked me and my partner for our overnight stay. She advised us on where to eat and bars to drink that catered to our taste. Juniper cocktail bar in the hotel was particularly good; with amazing views of the city. My personal favourite was Russian Roulette cocktail which was to die for. Highly recommend staying in this hotel. Collapse
Nearly there...But needs fine tuning

Last time we were in Edinburgh, we stayed at the other Indigo which I absolutely adored. This Indigo is a good hotel: lovely, huge bed, friendly staff, but it lets itself down in a few areas. Ok, I know it's a busy time of year, but that's never an excuse for a hotel or a restaurant - especially when you know you're going to be busy. Little things like this matter to me (and yes, people, I'm aware that these are first world problems, but when you're paying a wodge of hard earned cash to stay somewhere nice, you want to feel the effort is reciprocated). We kept having to ask for more tea bags etc., as these weren't topped up every day; our teacups weren't washed up every day when our bed was made; our kettle wasn't working; a lot of the hotel is very scruffy, marked paintwork etc; my sister and her husband (in another room)were woken up at 4am and 4.30 am each morning by the staff throwing out recycling bottles just under her window; we had a superior double, but there was a broken downpipe just outside our window that meant that if it rained during the night, we were transported to Niagara Falls... Bar and waiting staff should not be wearing dirty trousers with holes in them, and if you've got mussels on the menu, please make sure your staff understand why it's not ok to serve you up a portion where eight or more mussels are completely closed. Petty? Moi? Anyway, mutter mutter, got that off my chest now, and it was a very comfortable bed, the croquettes in the bar were excellent and they had a lighted makeup mirror in the bathroom so not all bad. The other Indigo is so much nicer though. Just saying. Collapse

Spent 2 nights here. It couldn't be better placed for all the attractions in the city centre. It's immediately opposite Waverley station so no long haul dragging cases. The staff are so accommodating and friendly. The accommodation is superb with a massive comfortable bed, very generous bathroom and complimentary soft drinks and snacks. I definitely will be returning here. Collapse
Close......but no cigar.

A mixed review of good and bad. On arrival (at 2am due to flight delays), check in was quick and efficient. No one bothered to help with bags or show us to our room but it was easy to find as rooms are well signposted. Arrived to find a double room despite specifically booking a twin (travelling with my mother). Called reception to be told "we don't have any twin rooms". When I suggested one should be told that if booking one the response was "yeah I'll pass that on". Not good enough! Room (304) was exceptionally small - the door hits the bed as it's opened - but perfectly comfortable. Lovely view of the city and castle but if you're a light sleeper the traffic noise will wake you very early. The fridge was stocked with complementary ginger beer, water, a Kit Kat and a Tunnucks Tea Cake. Well, it was but on arrival back to our room after housekeeping the tea cake had been taken away. Bit odd, maybe the housekeeper was hungry? Sure she / he didn't have to take ours though but no matter. After a comfortable sleep we headed to breakfast where I was really looking forward to a good Scottish breakfast. Sadly we left empty. I ordered my breakfast and my mum ordered porridge. We explained that mum was only having porridge and on that basis one would assume our food would be bought together. Mums porridge came (she assures me it was very nice so do try it) but my breakfast failed to arrive. We waited and waited and after more than ten minutes since mums bowl had been taken away we gave up. Clearly they had forgotten as others who had arrived after us had been served. Their excuse was that they were bringing it after the porridge. Why?! Surely people dining together would want to eat together? Particularly as time frames were in place and I didn't a) have time to wait and b) feel it was acceptable to do so when that wait was over half an hour for breakfast. So I left hungry and never got my Scottish breakfast. Conclusion - rooms tiny but very comfortable. Traffic very noisy. Service horrendous! Would I stay again? No, sadly not. Must try harder! Nice hotel, very well located, busy bar area with very interesting looking cocktails. We didn't stay to sample as we couldn't get seated so can't comment on their quality but they certainly were presented well. Pleasant staff. Room was nice but nothing to get excited over. No bath and it is my preference but the toiletries were of good quality. Very comfortable bed. Excellent location to train station and central Edinburgh. Couldn't get too excited over breakfast. It was expensive and nothing special. Would stay again for business but perhaps not for leisure. I think there are probably more luxurious places to stay in this price bracket. Collapse
