My husband and I chose this hotel for a recent 4 night stay in Chicago. We chose it for a number of reasons - my husband is an IHG rewards member and they had a better points/member rate than other properties, location (near amenities and on a red line stop) and the general look of the hotel online. We arrived early (about 1pm) and were advised while they had some rooms ready, they wanted to upgrade us and if we wanted the upgrade to come back after 3pm. We opted to wait, stored our bags and went for lunch. We arrived back about 3:15 and were told "lots" of people had checked in ahead of us (even though she knew we were coming back at 3?) so she'd have to check what was ready now. The room she wanted to put us in wasn't available...so we had to wait on a supervisor to see what other room could be offered. Everyone at check in was very friendly but maybe a bit flustered/overwhelmed so it seemed to take a lot longer than it maybe needed to. We had a room on the 10th floor, on the far end. It was very large for a city hotel room. It had a king bed and sitting area, was very clean, AC worked extremely well, lots of hot water, TV with good channel selection, excellent wifi (especially for an older building). Very cute/boutique-y decor..felt more like a cottage or eclectic apartment than a standard hotel room. If I was to be a bit nit-picky about the room - it would have been nice to have a fridge (there seemed to be a spot one was once in), the bed was comfortable but the linens and pillows weren't great, several outlets didn't work (well they'd work one day then not the next) and areas the paint had been touched up was done in a slightly darker colour so it looked kind of spotty. None of those things were deal breakers at all but, areas for potential improvement. This hotel is located in a mostly residential area...which at first I worried about but ended up being a plus for us. There were lots of restaurants and bars very nearby and everything else was close enough. Kind of made us feel more like residents than visitors! We didn't eat at the hotel at all (we were out a lot) but did have drinks in the hotel bar one night and it was nice enough. The only real "issue" we had was at check out. I wouldn't go as far as to say the person at the desk was rude..but...she was incredibly dismissive and made it seem like she couldn't get us out of there fast enough. We've stayed at a lot of hotels/resorts (from budget to luxury) and I honestly can't recall a time when we weren't asked how our stay was? Nor were the words "Thank you" said at any point in our very brief check out experience. These things would have been annoying at any hotel but far more so at one we are platinum elite members at. If not for the last few minutes I really wouldn't have hesitated to stay at this hotel and recommend it to others. I still think I probably will because we did really enjoy a lot about it. Just a shame to leave on a bad note... Collapse

If you like no working light in your sitting area, no closet door - it's missing, no luggage rack, no full length mirror, no switched out towels daily, no dresser and LOUD slamming doors from the neighbors that wake you up at all hours when you have to be up early, this place is for you. It's just a big NO-GO for me. Place is old, but appears clean though with all the other things not maintained, I'm not comfortable trusting the cleanliness either. I would not recommend this hotel. I certainly will voice my concerns with my employer as this place has been used in the past. It is "quaint", but somethings just should be. A luggage rack would have served better than using the other bed. A full length mirror and not just the hardware left on the walls to remind of the time when one existed. Closet door hardware still left as another reminder of a time long gone(?). General upkeep and maintenance is not this hotel's strength. Adding to it all are the heavy doors that slam so loudly they will wake you up - I am not a light sleeper, but these doors have startled me awake several times a night. Collapse

Husband and I stayed here 2 nights in July, using a Groupon, we got a great deal. Room was clean - probably needed some updating to the flooring - the wood laminate was beginning to peel. But, the room was a good size and the bed was comfy. One downside - our room window faced out to a fire escape - not really an outside view. The neighborhood north of the hotel and to the west had great restaurants, a beautifulpark and was within a mile of Lake Michigan beach. Lincoln Park and Zoo was a short bus ride away. The red line was a short walk away and easy to take into the downtown/millenial park area. Overall, enjoyed our short stay. Collapse
A little pricey, but we enjoyed our stay and staff were very friendly.

We booked this place almost last minute. We booked for a trip to go there and see the Pearl Jam concert in August 2016. It was more expensive than most hotels I would normally stay at, but I didn't want to stay too far away and most cheaper hotels were farther away. The location of this hotel was very good. I felt safe walking around at night with my wife and 2 young kids. Bus/subway connections from here were easy. I didn't get lost in the area. There's enough places around to get groceries, food, things to see, etc. Our first impression at the front desk was very good. They were very friendly, not rushed, very helpful, welcoming, talked to my kids. The room was not the biggest, but it was very uniquely styled and it was appreciated for a change. The beds were comfortable. It wasn't too hot or cold in the room. Parking is obviously an issue in the area. We paid to park in a closeby parkade, which was also a little pricey. Collapse
