Upon driving up to the resort, we were pleasantly surprised. The houses and apartments in the resort looked well kept and all the areas were immaculate. We had a first class welcome by the reception staff and a great bonus for us was our apartment was ready even though it was early in the day. The apartments were clean well equipped and just what we needed for a family. If I were to make any negatives I would say the bathroom could do with a little update but as I say I am being picky. There is a reasonably priced supermarket on site where you can get the basics. It's great to have the facilities of the hotel, you just can't use the pool or spa unless you purchase a day pass, but you may still use the bars and restaurants which is handy if you don't want to drive out. I was a little disappointed with the steak restaurant. The food didn't seem to fit in with the 5* surroundings. The pools are nice and clean. All I will say is there needs to be more sun beds and parasols. There seems to be the age old problem of people reserving them. The lifeguards are a great addition and are very attentive and do a great job. To make the most of the area, car hire is recommended as there are some lovely beaches in the area. All in all a lovely resort with friendly staff, good facilities and I wouldn't hesitate in coming back. Collapse

First of all I have to say that the initial welcome from reception staff was excellent - greeted by Pablo before we had even set down our luggage he checked us in efficiently even though we were very early & our room wasn`t ready. Both he and Fabrizio tried hard to get our room made up as a priority which they achieved an hour ahead of time. We have been accustomed to timeshare in Madeira so it came as a bit of a shock that we could not use the hotel pool area (although they didn`t seem to mind us spending money in the restaurants & bars !!) and that there were no pool towels, maid service etc. In addition the apartment lift broke down several times which makes life difficult with a toddler. I can sort of understand that hotel guests should have priority but if there are no other sunbeds or parasols around the apartment pools, which there often weren`t - surely a reasonable request to take up unused amenities could be allowed even if you are asked to leave should they become needed. Juan on reception was also very good at helping with taxis etc - we chose taxis to and from Los Alcazares instead of hiring a car, which worked well (around 30 euros return). Around 50 euros return trip from San Javier airport to the resort. Generally a very nice place to spend a few days plenty of amenities and the hotel pool area very pretty at night. Apartments are fine, we had a two-bed which had plenty of room plus a large balcony, air-con worked fine for us if we left it on all day - Wi-Fi also ok even around the pool, although I do come from digitally depressed Derbyshire !! We love Alcazares and so we were happy sharing our time between there and the resort - plenty of beach-bars and restaurants - stand out eateries this time were Angela`s, Run Asian & La Encarnacion (who have a 5-7 Happy Hour which is fabulous value). We would have no problem returning to this resort but I feel more could be done to assist at times. Collapse

We had a lovely time in the residences at mar menor. The place really has it all, a 5 star hotel, like 6-7 different restaurants, a super-market, pools, golf and tennis courts, playgrounds, lots of running and Exercising spaces and spas. It's a place distanced from everything that still has everything within reach. 15 minute car ride to hike cabezo gordo, a 20 min car ride to the beautiful beaches, 15 min car ride alsoto the small town center and 30 min away from the beautiful city of Cartagena. I recommend this place , excellent for family vactions and couples. Collapse

Very poor experience. I have been to numerous golf resorts in Spain, Portugal, Turkey and America and this is by far the worst. Very strange set up with the apartments linked to the hotel but then you are not allowed to use the facilities. Very bad experience today, our one day without golf and wanted to sit by the apartment pool. About 10 sun beds all taken. The lifeguard told us to walk about 1 km to the hotel and use that pool as there are plenty of sun beds. As soon as we got there pounced on by staff and asked to leave. Spoke to a very unhelpful member of staff at reception and explained. He eventually got the manager who was equally unhelpful. Did promise sun beds would be delivered to the apartment pool but they never arrived. I had two requests before arriving one double bed and one twin room and a balcony that had some sun. Both were total ignored. When I phoned reception was told double beds were not possible and they would not change the apartment to one that got some sun. Ours was totally in the shade from sunrise to sunset. Best advice I can give is just go somewhere else, much better resorts else where and all with staff that helpful and try to look after you. This place doesn't want to know even the most basic request is too much trouble for them. The golf was ok but we only got what I would a nice welcome at one of the courses. At four of them the Pro shop staff were quite abrupt and did not willingly pass on information everything had to be dragged out of them. The clubhouse staff were also not the best, possibly its a regional thing or maybe a kickback over Brexit but its the worst service and welcome I have ever received in any country. They are happy to take your money in the bars and restaurants on site but ask them for a double bed or a sunbed and you got no chance. Luckily there are few restaurants and bars just outside the main gate which saved the day. Stayed July 2017, travelled with family Collapse

Stayed in June, a party of four made up of 2 golfers and 2 non golfers. Now I must just say we paid a ridiculously cheap price for 3 nights b&b in an apartment so we weren't expecting the world, but just a few points to note. The main gripe we had was throughout our entire stay we felt like 2nd rate citizens. It is a very clicky resort and if you are not a member, home owner or staying in the apartment, you might as well not be there! We felt like everything we asked was an inconvenience. Also the breakfast was segregated from the main hotel breakfast and was poor. Served in the club house with dated mis matched furniture, the food was dull and clearly the dregs. The apartment itself (11013) was ok. Nice size, quite dated. The aircon was awful!!! And barely worked throughout our stay, thank god for the ceiling fans in the bedroom. Again the wifi didnt work despite asking reception about this we received no help, again I refer back to the fact we were hotel/member guests! The whole place needs some tlc. The pool was great and just outside our apartment- very quiet. But hardly any sun beds. We loved Los Alcazares and would highly recommend visiting here in the evenings. We didnt stay on the resort in the evenings as there was really nothing to do. I do not think we would return. Although it was cheap, it was not the most comfortable. Collapse
