A review in unusual circumstances

It is a great pleasure to write this Trip Advisor for a number of reasons. This hotel will remain in my memory and will certainly be my choice should I come back to this area which surely I will. It is special because I came for 4 days and ended up staying for nearly 40. This is because I had two small heart attacks whilst staying at the hotel and could not travel. Being a physician and treated by my friends, I stayed in the hotel not the nearby hospital but with a stay of that duration and stress, one got a very special insight into the hotel and its staff. I make an exception to my usual rule of not identifying individuals and for this special review I choose to do so . Previous visitors have rated this place 4/5 and I would not disagree; that is exactly the place I am happy to put it too. What makes this place special is the staff and though I am an experienced traveller, I have rarely enjoyed such a consistent high standard of service and staff in all departments in which I had contact. The room was clean and well serviced. The general facilities of the hotel were exactly as expected but the rooms are distinctly small for the price.. It was the staff at all levels who elevated this to a hotel which is performing well above its rating . The front desk staff and managers were excellent and because of my predicament, I asked a lot of favours of them and these were generously given with a lot of understanding. I would single Achie of the front desk for his excellent service. My special thanks to Manager Umair, to Punam and to Krishna and the other staff of the restaurant for their real efforts to make meals special and to Jupie who gave us such good attention. However, my reviews tend to focus on food, and this will be no exception. This is actually two co-located hotels of the same chain, an Ibis and Novotel joined at restaurant level and at the level of a few floors allowing access to two restaurants and bar facilities and things like the rooftop swimming pool. The Ibis houses 'Amici' an 'Italian-style' restaurant. I was a bit dubious on arrival but rapidly found that they really do get a lot of things right. Given the country-wide lack of pork products one has to accept that many bits of italian cooking will be compromised but that said, even in the invitable buffet evenings, some jewels are to be found. First and foremost, we never had a fish-based dish which disappointed and there were some special high points; the salmon quiche and the fish in a dill sauce as part of the buffet come to mind. Someone here knows how to buy and cook fish. Other dishes of note were the lamb-based dishes especially the Lamb Rendang which was lighter than the more usual beef dish of indonesia and the Pepper Steak. The cold antipasti available most nights are of good quality and welcome and the desserts can be quite good; try the restaurant recommended crème brulee and the off-the-shelf cake desserts, especially the mocha cake and the caramel cheese cake. The a la carte menu is sound and contains many good dishes, the Thai Green Curry and the Wagyu Burger in particular. If you have half-board then during the week the access is to the full buffet dinner, at weekends which are a la carte only, there are special half board menu’s which are certainly up to standard, if limited. Good fun is watching other diners trying to work out how to use the salt and pepper grinders. The wine list is restricted, the reds are nothing to shout about but the white wines, and especially the Chilean white are good and of reasonable value. There is a modest sports bar selling good German beer. Breakfasts are unremarkable and pretty much what you expect in a chain hotel. So a rather special different perspective of a hotel. So is easy to enter a lobby, just check-in, get a key and appear and disappear as a ship in the night. But we discovered the people who give this hotel its great heart and soul. I am pleased reading backwards through the reviews that this is not a one-traveller view. Many before me have commented on the good people of the Ibis, Mall of the Emirates. Long may this tradition continue. Collapse

The hotel is excellent for business and shopping purposes... Cleaning level is excellent and WiFi is mid range speed. My room was small to medium but acceptable, LCD TV is a little bit small as well as wardrobe. So my room is more convenient for short stays. Location is amazing as it is few walking minutes to mall of Emirates for shopping and Metro. Lots of cafés in front of tje hotel areas. Collapse

Thanks for the staff, all I met were very friendly and so helpful! I spent a single night, and overall it was very close to my expectations from ibis, affordable with the basic elements for a bedroom, and most important clean and neat room designs. Of course, the finish quality in not the same as I used to for the European countries premises; however, the identical design makes me very familiar with the place, and leaves me comfortable even from the first night. Great stay, this is my 5th stay here in IBIS MOE, staff always helpful and caring, very good breakfast with a broad choice of food, beds are really comfortable, bathrooms spacious and modern. Only big and massive complaint is internet service, WIFI is really spotty, and when you get a connection it gets really really slow, no ethernet cable was provided claiming there was no ethernet hub in room. This really must be addressed to be a top business hotel. Collapse

It is a good hotel for business travel. it is near to the media market and other business hubs. It's not really a happening bar but more a silent one to enjoy a drink or two with friends. Collapse
