I didn't have very high expectations for a hotel a block away from Bourbon Street but I ended up being very impressed! I was with a group of 4 couples and all of the rooms were very spacious and most importantly, very clean. All of the staff we interacted with treated us well - the concierge, the front desk staff and everyone else we talked to. We also enjoyed a couple of afternoons at the pool as well. The hotel is in a great location and it is easy to get to all of the attractions and restaurants. Collapse

We found the room was quiet, had a nice layout, comfortable bed, and walk-in shower. The staff was pleasant and I'm sure that if we had needed their services they would have been accommodating, as other guests stated. (We were in the city for a wedding and live only 100 miles away.) We ate a snack in the bar and breakfast in the cafe Powdered Sugar. First, the breakfast was good: eggs, grits or potatoes, and a crumbled meat product on top (we had bacon). It was all well prepared and not expensive by NO hotel standards. However the debris poboy we ate was a different story (see description on photo). First off this was not Leidenheimer french bread, nor was it french bread. It was a 6" hoagie. Neither was it slow roasted pot roast and gravy. It was 2 slices of deli roast beef with some awful salty gravy. It did not have garlic aioli, but was served with mustard and mayonaise. Go to Mother's to eat a true debris poboy and don't fall for this terrible sandwich. Collapse

My wife and I had an awesome vacation to New Orleans April 8-15 (except for check in- see more about that below). I am so happy we stayed at the Hyatt Centric French Quarter. This has to be one of the cleanest hotels I've ever stayed at! My wife is really critical of hotels and usually complains about them being dirty, but she couldn't find one bad thing to say about this place! We constantly saw staff cleaning and making sure the hotel looked beautiful. We were in room 278, a balcony room overlooking Dauphine Street (the balcony near the entrance to the hotel). We loved our room because we could sit outside and people watch and see all the nightlife, but still sleep with no issues since we were on the other side of the hotel from Bourbon street. Twice during our trip we stopped at Batch Bar for some late night food and drinks before going to bed. Helise at concierge helped us book two trips (ghost tour and Steamboat Natchez) and was incredibly kind and helpful. She also gave us tips on where to go in the garden district and the best jazz clubs on Frenchmen Street. We also spent a day outside by the hotel pool. Unfortunately the pool bar wasn't open yet, but it was still beautiful. The one major issue we had was with Catherine at the front desk. After flying for four and half hours, we checked in on Saturday the 8th around 12pm and unfortunately got stuck in Catherine's line. The first thing she said to us upon our arrival was "We don't have a reservation for you." She didn't say "hi" or welcome us to the hotel, she instead scared the crap out of us and told us we had no reservation on file. After showing her our confirmation email (and having my heart pound faster), she again looked at her computer with a confused look and said, "it says here you checked in yesterday and are leaving on Wednesday. Why did you check in already?" We again explained that we had not checked in and had reservations for the next seven nights. At this point, my anxiety was rising and I was pissed (this was our first five minutes in the hotel, definitely not making a good impression). She then "found" our reservation after we spelled our last name for her a second time. I thought the negative experience with her was over, but I was wrong. We had booked a king balcony room, and of course Catherine said "okay, I have a queen suite for you." We told Catherine that we did not want that room, and the whole reason we had booked this hotel was for a balcony room (we had called several times in the proceeding months to put in a request for a street balcony room). She made a face and said "well we don't have any balcony rooms, we are overbooked." At that point, Jill (I believe she is a manager) overheard Catherine and came to our rescue. Jill instantly said "Yes we do have balcony rooms" and came over to Catherine's computer and found our room within twenty seconds. I am so grateful that Jill was there, because my blood pressure was rising and Catherine had such a negative attitude throughout our check in. Even after Jill left, Catherine continued to have a negative attitude and even made a rude comment towards my wife (we are not ones to complain, and I was very kind to Catherine despite her being rude and incompetent). Although we were finally able to check in, Catherine set the vacation off on a negative note. My wife and I avoided her every day in the lobby after that, although we didn't have to since she was always looking down at her computer with a grimace instead of greeting guests. Several staff members we spoke with throughout the week informed us Catherine is new and did not speak highly of her, and I'm sure this is not the first time they've heard of her causing an issue. Although I was nervous our whole trip would be like this, every other staff member at the Hyatt was incredible and truly went above and beyond. Despite our stressful check in, we had an amazing time in New Orleans and loved the Hyatt. Incredible hotel with a great location. Hopefully we'll be back one day! Collapse
