Graded a 5 Star Guest House by the AA in recognition of the excellent customer service, as well as superb levels of comfort. The Howbeck prides on providing a delightful retreat where the warmth and friendliness of the Howbeck team are always apparent. With an aim to provide the kind of service you would only expect in some of the top luxury Windermere & Lake District guest houses. From the moment you arrive you will be made to feel welcome and to feel at home.
All of the rooms are well appointed and spacious. The three ground floor rooms provide easier access for the less able, and every single room provides a comfortable retreat after a day out and about exploring the stunning scenery of the Lake District. Each room has been individually styled with fully co-ordinated soft furnishings and ensuite bathrooms, some with luxury spa baths, crisp white linen and snug quilts adorn all beds, while cosy towelling bathrobes are available throughout your stay. There is also a TV & wireless broadband available for guests. Although being in the heart of the Lake District, it would be a travesty to miss its dramatic scenery and beautiful landscapes, despite the temptation of the luxury and comfort of The Howbeck.
The Howbeck's award-winning restaurant is the perfect place to start your day. Whether you're planning to hike, cycle, sail or simply sightsee, what better way to set yourself up than with a hearty Cumbrian platter. Whatever your reason for visiting the Lake District, the team at the Howbeck will go to every length to make your stay comfortable, to see that you are looked after and are confident that you will not be disappointed.

Me and my girlfriend stay in Windermere every New Year's Day. We have previously stayed at the hideaway but that was fully booked. So we gave the howbeck a try. We booked in booking.com at £125. When we arrived we was given a room on the first floor basically next to the entrance which proved very noisy with people coming in and out all night. The room was very nice and the bed the comfiest we've had. We were just disappointed as when we booked we had been given another room but then when we arrived had the ground floor room. Breakfast was nice but not fantastic. And most disappointing was being charged £129 at checkout even though we had booked £125 and even showed the girl the email with £125! It's only £4 but she wasnt letting us have it for £125 even though I have her my phone to show her clearly the email! Anyways we will stick to our usual Hideaway when we come back next time in Windermere .. Collapse

My husband and I stayed for just 1 night in the Meregill room. The room and bathroom spotless, with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The Sherry went down a treat! The room was very, very hot due to the radiator in the bathroom, luckily my husband managed to turn it off! Our only complaint! The lady who served the wonderful breakfast was very friendly and very helpful. Both my husband and I thought it was very good value for money and we would stay again. Thankyou to all at the Howbeck! Thought the hotel was in a great location. Not too far from the centre of Bowness which was perfect as we like the wall in which takes about 15 minutes. The room (the retreat) was lovely and very clean. We liked the fact it is not in the main part of the hotel so you feel a bit more private. Bed was huge and comfy. Bathroom was lovely too. Breakfast is always included and was exactly what I needed to start the day. Although my wife requested no butter as she cannot have it and it was served on her muffins. Not the end of the world as we noticed and she they served toast instead. Would happily recommend the hotel to others. The other rooms also looked really nice. Couple of recommendations: - price menu for the minibar in the room with a tally. Just saves the walk to the bar. - phone in room for reception. - fix the tv in the bathroom. See you soon. Collapse

We stayed at the Howbeck for a birthday break. Given the price/description of the hotel we expected luxury. What we found wasn't quite that. The floor was dirty and the 'retreat' smelt strongly of paint and bleach. Paid extra for champagne and chocolates which were nicely presented alongside fairy lights and rose petals. We required a cot which was provided. Bathroom was amazing however for a luxury hotel we feel that the water tank should adequately fill the bath and then allow a shower also! Bed nice and comfy, breakfast delicious. Would stay again but the for the price would be inclined to try elsewhere. Collapse

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights at the beginning of December. Check in was very smooth, our room was the Greenburn which overlooked the main road, this wasn't a problem, we didn't notice any noise as such. The room was spotlessly clean with nice touches such as a small decanter of sherry and 2 glasses, chocolates and twinkly lights on the bed! There is an honesty bar in the lounge but we didn't use this. Breakfast was plentiful and freshly cooked, there were plenty of choices from the buffet area too. Alison gave us some recommendations for where to visit during the day and suggested that we make sure we were back in Windermere to see Santa switch on the Christmas lights, we did and it was magical, it really got everyone in the Festive spirit. The hotel is ideally situated to walk to some nice bars and restaurants in Windermere or a short taxi ride down to Bowness if you'd rather. All in all it was a relaxing stay where nothing was too much trouble for the staff at the hotel, I would certainly recommend it and hope to return sometime soon. Collapse
