When we arrived on Sunday, we were given a room on groud floor. The balcony faced the side of another building and the room was really stuffy & uncomfortable. I had requested an upper floor, I complained at reception, we were told there were no available rooms to swap but if we came back on Tuesday we could get a different room. We got a 2nd floor room with a pool/sea view. This room was a million times better. Light and airy and not stuffy at all. I would recommend everyone to pay that bit extra for a view as it made the world of difference, as requests themselves are not guaranteed. The new room was fine without air con. We didnt even need the fan on as its was really comfortable. The room was really clean, well equipped for self catering too. We stayed half board. The food was nice enough, always hot and they were always quick to replenish it. We did get fed up with it and they could do more for young kids but in the whole it was adequate. Alot of the rooms are privately owned in the hotel. These guests can use the pool also. Like most other reviewers, my only real issue was the sun lounger situation. I watched people put towels out at 11.45pm the night before. The people on the ground floor balconies jump over them all through the night and claim their beds. There were none left at 6.30am most mornings. This was stressful as we have young kids and all they want to do is go to the the pool. It took some of the enjoyment out of my holiday to be honest. The baby pool had loungers around which are excellent for parents wanting to keep a close eye on young kids. These were snapped up early, usually by people with no kids who lay and smoked all day bear the children which was a major bugbear of mine! There is plenty going on around the pool, water aerobics, fashion shows, kids clubs etc. The pool bar doesnt accept cash, all are charged to your room but you can pay this daily if you want. The hotel is in a good area. Central and taxi rank right outside. Again the hotel is clean, stairwells and corridors all spotless too. No issues there. I wouldnt return again as the pool situation is too stressful for me. If this wouldnt bother you then you will be fine. Collapse

Love Tenerife love the Santa Maria, but a disappointed start this years holiday, once sorted we were very happy and had a great holiday, as we always do in Tenerife. We booked our family holiday to the Santa Maria 11 months in advance, 2 adults, 4 kids 15,9,6 and 14 months, 2 bedroom apartment bed and breakfast, pool/sea room. we traveled with my brother in law and his family!! On our arrival we checked in was directed to our room, 1110 were we were informed that we would have to go down 4 flights of stairs as there was no lift, I wasn't happy with this as having a baby and pram someone would have to be with me at all time to help lift the pram up and down!! The lady in reception said she could move us the following day, still not happy we headed to the room, which all I can say was in the basement, out on to the balcony to find a large brick wall as our view!! Went back to reception and expressed our total disappointment with the room, and requested to be moved immediately as it was totally unacceptable, the room that would be available the next day was no longer available and would have to wait till the Saturday morning to move, but the lady in reception assured me that the apartment they would move me to was very large, no stairs/lifts and very nice, she also compensated us with evening meals for the two nights before we moved!! We moved into apartment 52 and our holiday was much more relaxed the room was amazing, 2 bedroom 2 bathroom ground floor, massive balcony!! Would highly recommend it!! Breakfast in the hotel is ok, you wouldn't starve, plenty of rolls, ham, cheese, if your really fussy, there is also eggs, bacon, beans, not what you get at home, but it's the same everywhere you go!! Dinner again you would find something to eat, but I wouldn't advise half board as the food is average, and very cheap to eat out!! Staff are friendly and welcoming, hotel is very clean, and central to beach, bars and restaurants!! It's a 3 star hotel, and you get what you pay for in my eyes!! Pool area is a wee bit disappointing due to the lack of sun beds, people putting towels out and not using beds, first 3 mornings we couldn't get a bed anywhere, as there was towels on them all but no one to be seen, so after talking to people at the pool and been told that they were setting alarms at 6.00 to put out towels, we decided if you can't beat them join them, I don't agree with it but sometimes been nice all the time won't get you anywhere!! All in all we really did have a fantastic holiday in Tenerife once again, and will be returning next year. Collapse

We just come back from a 10 night stay at this Hotel. I honestly expected the worst from here reading mainly the bad reviews. But we found ourselves to be pleasently surprised. The room was fine, abit dated but it's nice to stay somewhere that's abit querky, it's just like most Spanish rooms iv stayed in before, it had everything that we needed, a bedroom, bathroom with a shower over the bath, a kitchenette, a dining table, a couch, TV, safe, balcony. We only sleep in our room so it didn't really matter what the decor was like. It could do with air-conditioning, we had a celing fan that did nothing and a blower that you had to have on all night that's just blew warm air at you. We went half board, so we had our breakfast and evening meal here, but was told if we wanted to swap our evening meal then just inform the reception the day before. In our last day we had lunch here as we missed our evening meal on our arrival as we arrived after 10, this was outside at the pool bar area, less choice but was fine for our family. We had one small issue with the food, which was reported to the manager, who sorted it straight away and issued our children with t-shirts for the inconvenience caused. The hotel was situated in a good area, beach down the road, restaurants right outside the door, shops and supermarkets all a few minutes away. We also found that siam park was within walking distance (20mins) and Aqua land was also (10mins) Theres 4 pools two for toddlers/babies and two biggish, one felt slightly heated. The sunbeds where hard to get hold of but this didn't bother us as we rarely stayed round the pool plus our room was on ground level and we just took a sunbed and put it on our balcony. If you do have a hard time getting a bed just tell the life guard and if the sunbed is only claimed by a towel and no one's there they'll remove it for you. I don't think your allowed lilos in the big pools either. The rooms were cleaned 5 times a week. The staff where very friendly and helpful. We had a very nice break away at this hotel and would probably return again. Maybe in the non peak season, as we were leaving it started to get very busy. Collapse

We have just finished a week at this hotel never stayed here before, some things were good and some weren't - on arrival we were given our room a 2 bed we had asked for a cot but we had an extra bed we asked as reception and they came within 5 mins to change which was good - the pool is lovely but it doesn't have enough beds to accommodate the people staying you have to be up at 5am to do a towel run as all beds are taken otherwise which is not for us especially if your out late and also if you have small children you want to be at the front to watch them, personally I think u should be asked on arrival if u want a lounger then allocated so many for your room - the food is ok bit repetitive but they all are, as we were half board we asked if we could swap to dinner all week and was told no as fully booked so in the end we just went over to the pool restaurant and asked and we could do this and all was ok until a new staff member came on shift and totally humiliated us in front of all diners and told us to go so I complained to the manager who was really nice and sorted it for us. The only other thing is the air conditioning you have to pay to have it or its fans in your room which doesn't do a lot it's so hot. If the pool and air conditioning were sorted I would stay again otherwise I will stick to where I usually stay. Collapse
