Location was very convenient and close to magnificent mile and shops at Nordstrom. Really easy for uber/lyft pickup. Friendly hotel staff, clean rooms, good complimentary breakfast and decent evening social/dinner which I honestly was not aware of so it came as a welcomed surprise for me. Suites are very cosy and private. Very ideal for a business stay. Slightly pricey but so is everything around that area, so it's competitive. Collapse

Long weekend with my husband and two children for our first trip to Chicago for a short vacation. Really wonderful breakfast and staff! Clean rooms and great location. Don't hesitate, just book. You won't be sorry!

We stayed in a two queen suite for two nights and could not have been more pleased with our accommodations. With two teenagers I was worried we would not have enough room but there was plenty of room for everyone and having a full fridge and kitchen area is fabulous! The pullout sofa was not very comfortable but my son did not complain. The views from the 19th floor pool and gym area are spectacular! I believe there are only one queen suite room on each floor, so I am so glad I booked far in advance. We still had great reviews from the 15th floor, and we had no wait time for the elevator. The breakfast each day was very fresh with plenty of selection and well stocked. The location is absolutely fabulous for the hotel. I think it is a block from Michigan Avenue, Jewel-Osco grocery store is a five minute walk ( this is where we bought all of our snacks and beverages). Bloomingdale's is directly across the street and everything that we wanted as far as shopping was with in very close walking distance. I highly recommend this hotel and will use this hotel for the location and spacious rooms if ever returning to Chicago. Collapse
Would stay here again

I would have given the place 5 stars if not for a little hiccup (see below). First, the location is great. If you are considering this HWS vs the one closer to Northwestern Hospital, unless you have a need to be close to the hospital, stay at this one. This location is closer to all the popular restaurants right now. It's right across from the Nordstrom, where there is also a mall with a food court (if you just want a quick easy cheap grab and go meal). A Starbucks is at the opposite corner, Joe's is downstairs, Eddie V's nearby. There is also a supermarket 2 blocks away, and a dine-in AMC with a TJMaxx/Marshalls on the opposite side. There is a Grand Lux Cafe next to the AMC. Eataly and Shake Shack are downstairs, and the Japanese restaurant downstairs is decent. The rooms are nicely renovated. The corner suite is smaller than the city view suite, but the corner view is great (if you're ok with looking at the Trump building). Nicely appointed kitchen with utensils, dishware, cooking pots/pans, cutting boards, dishtowels. There is a dishwasher as well. Weirdly enough, no dish soap or dish sponge. I asked for some, but they gave me detergent for the dishwasher. So had to go buy some at the nearby supermarket. Beds are standard, nothing special. No bed bugs. Pull out sofa was the usual spring-in-your-back pull-out mattress - if you can't sleep on that, try to get the room with 2 queens. Bathroom amenities are Neutrogena, plenty of towels. Clean bathrooms, water pressure is ok. Breakfast buffet has a 4 day rotation, includes days of nice thin crispy bacon, sausage, waffles, eggs (plain, cheese, chives and cheese), biscuits and gravy. Always oatmeal and yogurt available, juices, breads. 6:30-9:30 am. I docked 1 star because of the situation we were put in. It was resolved, but the manner in which it was initially handled is the reason for the docked star. In the middle of our stay, a pump broke on the 18th floor (where the pool is). At 2 am, the kitchen sink started to overflow with rancid chlorinated sewer water which made it hard to breathe (imagine bleach mixed with toilet water, and now overflowing all over the kitchen counter where you have your food and cleaned dishes, now over flowing to the carpet where you have your stuff). We had to move quickly, and keep going back to get our stuff to move to a new room (we heard the 17th floor had it the worst with this water just pouring on them from the ceiling). The next morning, I go to talk to the front desk, and the first person who helped me told me that they comped that night, and then that's it. Uhhhh...you just made me move into a new room at 2 am, while trying to deal with my child to prevent him from inhaling the awful fumes, but moving them to the other room, would require me to leave them so I could go back and forth to pack up the rest of the stuff. The front desk person then called the Supervisor, Heidi, who also told me that they comped the night, and that if I was looking for more compensation, I would have to wait until the next day (the day we were checking out) to speak with the general manager as he was not there that day. Eventually, a mutually agreed compensation was done, and all is good. I understand that things happen, that are out of the control to a hotel, but the ones that are good know the importance of keeping your customers happy, to keep them as future repeat business. So in my opinion, the comped night was a given, but all of us who were troubled by the jolting disturbance, that warranted more than "just the night we were inconvenienced". But all was made right in the end, so hopefully everything is fixed, and no one will have troubles like this in the future. Collapse

This is a pretty standard Homewood Suites hotel. Only two elevators for 13 floors; the service elevator was out of service so getting an elevator was often very time consuming and crowded with staff and carts. The evening food selection is OK but not great. Breakfast less so; scrambled eggs were very overdone and often had cheese or other things mixed in. Be careful not to get assigned to a room without a real work desk or plugs anywhere near the narrow work table. Better choices in Chicago, like the Hilton Miracle Mile Suites - a great hotel with far better rooms. Collapse
