Enjoyed a freshly made Afternoon Tea served by helpful staff, quick to respond to requests for 'more Coffee please'. We could have asked for brown/wholemeal bread for all our sandwiches and a plain scones with our clotted cream and strawberry jam. We were asked if there was anything we didn't like, so asked for 'no cheese sandwiches' and our delicious freshly selection was egg mayo, ham and mustard, succulent beef and horseradish and delicate cucumber; very nice. Might need to go back for more of those caramel covered fresh cream profiteroles. Collapse

Stayed in a triple room with my husband and 2 children (one in a bed, one in a travel cot). Room was comfortably big enough for us all, nice shower (which was a teeny bit temperamental with temperature, but that was a minor issue). Room was clean and had a good supply of coffee, tea etc. Public areas of the hotel were spotless. Nice comfortable feel with friendly staff who were really polite. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced with good size portions. Would definitely stay again. Collapse

We arrived about 6pm on Sunday for an overnight stay. There were three of us booked into a triple room. The signing in was efficient and the gentleman doing the signing in was very enthusiastic and extremely friendly.....we felt at ease straight away. We booked a table for the three of us for the Sunday Carvery which goes on until 8.00pm. You can also have the option of Soup and a Carvery for £10 a head. Since my daughter and granddaughter had not had a very big lunch we opted for the 3 course meal at £17.95 per person. MY daughter and I had the garlic mushrooms in a creamy sauce and my granddaughter opted for the chicken and vegetable terrine. These starters arrived in a very timely manner and were delicious....boding well for the main meal to come. What can I say......the carvery was one of, if not the best I have ever tasted, We were given the option of Gammon, Beef and Turkey.....all three of us opting for a the Gammon and the Turkey. We all had 2 slices of both and the meat was succulent and tender. There was pigs in blankets, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, cauliflower and broccoli in cheese sauce, carrot and peas, carrot and swede mash, cabbage, new potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce. There was no limit to how much of these you could take and the food was absolutely delicious. We then went on to have a dessert ( although where we found the room for it is another matter). I indulged in a fantastically creamy Eton Mess which was full of fruit and meringue, my daughter had cherry crumble ice cream and a scoop of coconut ice cream which she declared were delicious, and my granddaughter had sticky toffee sundae. Full to the brim we retired to our room, The room was ideal for the three of us with a spacious bathroom and plenty of tea, coffee and milk. There was a flat screen television in the room and to top it all off there was also free WiFi. After a very good nights sleep we went for breakfast which we had already booked. We were shown to our table, immediately offered tea or coffee and toast (a choice of white, brown or both), and shown the breakfast menu. We opted for the Welsh breakfast containing, bacon, sausage, black pudding, mushrooms, hash brown, tomato, beans and egg (we chose poached egg). As we didn't like black pudding this was declined. Whilst waiting for the breakfast we decided to go and fetch some cereal which was on hand and ate that in anticipation of our breakfast. The meal when it came was superb. The breakfast was amazing with everything cooked to perfection. Had I have known the size of the portions we agreed that we would have refrained from taking the cereal, but we really enjoyed the food immensely. The staff at the Holt Lodge are the politest I have ever met, nothing was too much trouble, and the service was superb. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. It is quite a find, and we can't wait for the opportunity to go back to the Holt Lodge Hotel. Collapse

We stayed here after a wedding. For 100 pounds we were expecting more than a very basic room, would have been more appropriately priced at 40/50. There was also a main road nearby that was loud even with the window shut, and lots of loud hotel guests in the middle of the night. Friendly staff and a large breakfast improves the score from a 1 to a 2. Collapse
