Yesterday, 7 of us attended a Party Night. Every single member of our group was left disappointed by the food as it was cold. I ordered Christmas dinner, but only had two sprouts on my plate. I also could see a long hair in my dinner. We called the manager over who did his best to help, offering us all replacement meals, but due to the number of people attending the party night we declined as the hotel clearly could not cope with providing hot food for so many people. I should mention that the starter was also not nice at all. The manager offered us two bottle of prosecco which was accepted by us all, but most of us had sent our food back so we were hungry. This was after all a £30 party night. This left the puddings. I had Christmas Pudding. It was luke warm. I spoke with the manager asking him to try my pudding but he declined. He sent me a second pudding which was satisfactory. No refunds were offered. The manager pointed out that we were the only group having issues. I have never been to an event/hotel with such dire food. Very disappointing. I am truly concerned for future customers. I left my starter and had no dinner. The event room was also very cold on arrival. On arrival the hotel looked very lovely and the bar area was friendly and lively. Great place to go for a drink but I do not recommend the food. Collapse

My wife and I stayed in Holt Lodge for a wedding celebration. On arriving in the area we visited the two closest towns of Holt and Farndon situated on each bank of the river Dee. Both are charming places with pleasing places to enjoy a drink and snack. On booking into Holt Lodge we were welcomed by friendly staff and we were pleased with the double bedded room that we had booked. The room was agreeable yet would have benefited from two rather than one easy chair and although the bathroom was good the shower was accessed from the bath which made entry inconvenient but was by no means difficult. The event that we attended was a wedding evening event. The staff in attendance could not have done more for all the guests. A snack was provided mid event and this was tasty and satisfying. The following morning we had breakfast at the hotel and this was again very good with a variety of breakfast foods. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. On departure from Holt Lodge we felt that we had been well looked after and we would certainly recommend this hotel as a place worthwhile for short or long spells. Collapse

My partner and I stayed at the Holt Lodge while we were visiting the Wales Comic Con in Wrexham and were thoroughly impressed. It’s a beautiful hotel set in lovely grounds and the furnishings inside are of a comfortable luxury standard, with plenty of sofas and comfy seating in the bar/lounge area. As we were visiting in December the hotel was fully decorated for Christmas, which was delightfully cheerful and festive. We had breakfast both mornings of our stay and were happy with the selection and quality of food on offer. A couple of points to note: 1. I’ve recently been diagnosed lactose intolerant and it completely slipped my mind to enquire about this when we booked. The staff were very keen to help when I mentioned it but discovered that they didn’t have any lactose free/dairy free milk etc in the kitchen. If you have food intolerances I’d highly recommend mentioning this when booking so the hotel (and you) know what to expect and can be prepared. 2. During our second night I wasn’t able to get much sleep due to what appeared to be a small herd of insomniac elephants in the room above us! The thumping (and running?!) carried on well into the early hours of the morning. Whilst this is clearly no fault of the hotel in any way, if you are a light sleeper you might be better off requesting a room on the first floor rather than the ground floor. Overall, however, it was a wonderful stay in a lovely location. Collapse

Paper thin walls

The noise level was very bad we could hear both sides talking and not with raised voices. Room was clean but the bed was soft. Floor boards were creaky and when we were moving around we kept thinking somebody was knocking the door
