This is a perfectly acceptable hotel, with friendly staff in reception, the Cast Iron Bar and at breakfast. We didn’t try the pool as it was packed. We chose not to have evening meal as the menu was not very inspiring in Zest or the Cast Iron Grill. Mostly just pub food - burgers etc - not really our thing. The breakfast was great, plenty of variety. Our room was very small, but the bed was mega comfy and we didn’t notice much noise from other rooms. The bathroom was a good size and the shower was powerful. So we had no problems, but neither was the hotel anything to write home about. Just a little uninspiring. Looks good on arrival, but really not much different to a Premier Inn in terms of room sizes, menus etc. However, it does have leisure facilities and a golf course, which you wouldn’t get at a Travel Inn! Very disappointed. Feel a right chump. We had gone for a special wedding anniversary break and booked for the evening meal and breakfast. Not cheap by any means. The hotel has no nice lounge to sit in, hotel is tired looking, not grand as would be expected. We were told on sitting down for our evening meal that we would have to pay extra for almost 50% of the menu! No table cloths, no bread on the table, we were so unhappy and felt totally ripped off. Hollins Hall thinks it is better than it really is. Save your money and go somewhere else, not here. Adele, Mansfield. Collapse

At the town border into the wild. Great escape from the city noise. Spent a night before flying out of Leeds. Rooms are a bit small for a Marriott. The TV screen is large. NO slippers or complimentary water bottles! Iron cast restaurant was closed that night, so we went to Zest restaurant. Unfortunately, it was no up to the standard of a 5 star hotel. The food was presented as a cheap fast food shop. It needs the fine touch. Reception staff were helpful. Did NOT see any concierge personnel! Collapse
Not worth the money, requires many improvements

Visited here with my other half recently and the hotel was disappointing overall for the price point. The first room we were given had issues with the water, there was no cold water available which resulted in scalding hot water coming from the taps and bath/shower. The receptionist changed our room immediately and the second was more the style that we'd expect from a Marriott (roomy, bathrobes and slippers etc.) However in both rooms there were areas that required attention such as broken tiles in the bathroom and paint peeling away. They would also benefit from installing sound insulation (we were on floor 2) as we could hear the alarm going off in the room next door at 5.30am each morning as well as general noise from the hallway. There are 2 restaurants available but the Cast Iron Grill is not open every day. We ate at the Zest Bar one night and the food was pretty mediocre but sufficient if you're stuck at the hotel. Breakfast was great and provided a variety of options. I also tried out the leisure facilities and they have a great pool with sauna and steam room. There is also a Jacuzzi pool but the water isn't very warm, however still worth a visit. The leisure club is open to outside members so it can get really busy at times. We didn't try out the golf course so cannot comment. The hotel also offered to put some birthday cards into the mail collection for me (I'd asked for the nearest post box) which was great and saved me a trip. However it took them over one week to send these out meaning my cards were late to the recipients. I was thankful for the offer but had I known it would take so long I'd have preferred to send my items on time, disappointing for a 4 star. The hotel has such great potential and is situated in a beautiful setting, if only they could get the little things right. Collapse

Staying at this pleasant hotel as a large group is different to visiting independently. However the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is set back from the main road, the site also has a golf course, spa and swimming pool. Also used by local members. As a group we were asked to indicate our choices for dinner, which was varied and well cooked. Bedrooms were clean and comfortable. Lifts serve the upper floors. A good base for exploring Yorkshire, or a few days golf on a well kept course. Collapse
