We arrived during a wedding party and had to wait a long time to check in because there was a massive queue. But once the room was sorted out we enjoyed it very much. The room was simply but cleanly furnished, had a good tv and the beds were firm but comfortable. We were in the basement so the view wasn't great but the walls were solid brick so no noise from neighbours to disturb our sleep. One minor inconvenience was that the electric point was on the opposite side of the room to the mirror which made hairstyling a bit of a challenge. We ate in the restaurant and the food was awesome - perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. I have quite complicated dietary requirements and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. This hotel has a lot of potential and i hope it gets to fulfil it. Collapse

This wedding was booked before these new owners took over. They never adhered to all the agreed things such as exclusivity. No one was there to greet the guests. Reception is plonked inside the door as if they were decorating and moved it temporarily so there were queues of people waiting as more guests were entering. They hadn’t even printed anything ready for the guests so it was a painfully slow check in (and check out wasn’t that organised either). Dinner was served and they didn’t even know people had pre chosen food so they just served each table whatever leaving people with food they didn’t want/like. The food was very tasty though. They were so understaffed, the bar wasn’t ran efficiently until later in the night when more staff were moved onto it. After dinner whilst coffee was being served in the bar area we expected the room change to be swift but after waiting for hours we realised they were struggling so about 8 of us went in and we helped, building the dance floor ourselves. There was only the manageress and 1 member of staff doing it. They thanked us and then asked us to leave whilst they hovered. We were fed up by this point and told them no one wants the floor hovering as the bride and groom are getting angry but they argued with us and told us we wouldn’t be allowed in until they’d hovered. Management needs to prepare better, staff appropriately and understand timings and requirements. Especially as it was a wedding!!! Breakfast was the same story. Very few staff all working very hard. Food was nice. Most certainly a faulty towers with poor, inexperienced management. Collapse

A traditional hotel with a more modern extension at the back. My room had no view to speak of, but that was unimportant because the hotel situation and parking were what I wanted. Room rather hot, even though radiator was off and the window open. Bedside lights only operated from one side of the bed, which is inconvenient. Bed very comfortable and everything else in room and bathroom adequate. Food much much better than I expected, which was a very pleasant surprise. Young man in the bar could do with a bit more charm training and perhaps smile occasionally. Cocktails are mentioned on the website but none were available. Buffet breakfast good although I would prefer the offer of a fried or poached egg to airline style scrambled egg. There was a large wedding going on while we were staying at the hotel, but this did not disrupt us at all. I would definitely consider staying again. Collapse

We recently held a party at Hollin Hall. We couldn’t of asked for more from Carol and her amazing team. The function room and bedrooms are all well presented. The hot buffet we chose for our guests was excellent and there was plenty of it. We couldn’t of held more helpful staff, nothing was too much. We also stayed over night, they provided a high quality cot for our little one. Room was clean, well maintained and good value. Breakfast was fresh, hot and tasty. Collapse

Went here for Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed. The young staff were very helpful and polite and nothing was too much trouble (as we required an extra cushion) We had lovely warm bread to nibble on while we waited which was lovely and could have had more, however the portion was just right. The main Sunday lunch choice was rib of beef , garlic and thyme infused chicken ,or a wild mushroom and mushroom dish for vegetarians. The veg were hot and cooked beautifully the carrots were delicious as was the cabbage with lardons, cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes, and a huge Yorkshire pudding. The dishes were warm so the food did not get cold.Pudding was nice too and although I do not eat ice cream Dan the very amenable head waiter asked if I would like a fresh fruit salad(my favourite) so was doubly pleased. My husband is a' connoisseur' of ice cream and loved his ice cream dessert and my sister in law enjoyed her blackberry and apple crumble with proper custard. We even had the left overs for our dog and even doggie bits were transported in a nice container. The whole experience was relaxing and peaceful and it was lovely to see two baby showers going on enjoying an afternoon tea experience and a lot of cream team orders were also being dealt with in the smaller room. Would definitely come here again to have a Sunday lunch and to try the a la carte and the scrummy afternoon tea. Yes it could do with some TLC but it is under new ownership and hopefully local residents will start to use the establishment more and the future will be bright,I certainly hope so. Collapse
