Despite it's somewhat austere exterior, the staff shine through to make for a exceptionally pleasant stay

Check-in - wasn't busy and so was handled as you would expect, professionally and swiftly. Room - (209) the majority of the room had a re-furbished feel about it. The carpet seemed new or certainly well cleaned, but the bathroom whilst clean, needed some TLC. This is not a complaint, merely my opinion. This room looks out over the very large rear car park so if you like to be able to see your vehicle, you can easily park where it is visible. Wi-if - free throughout and supported a 'VoiceTime' call well as my phone signal was poor (EE). My other device on the 3 network, had good signal however. Browsing on the wi-fi was a little slow and streaming movies was... a little difficult! (Impossible) Dinner - I ordered in the bar and my meal arrived within 20 minutes. Unfortunately the burger (meat patty) was rather dry and spoiled what was otherwise a good dish. Sleep - the bed was comfortable for me and the pillows had varying firmness. I opted for the softer one and slept like a baby. Breakfast - Buffet style hot and cold choices although as the restaurant was busy, I was provided with a menu and ordered from that. The restaurant staff were exceptionally attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Coffee was supplied regularly and additional items which I decided I wanted whilst eating, were brought freshly to my table in short order. Staff - what makes this hotel stand out for me is the staff. From the receptionist through bar staff and housekeeping, all were exceptional in their attitude towards customer service. A special thanks goes out to Carl (Bar Manager I think) who was very accommodating with some of my requests - thanks Carl! Summary - I would stay here again mainly because of the price £70 room only but the staff genuinely made my stay better than I expected when I pulled up in the car park. Well done Holiday Inn, Washington! Collapse

I stay in 3-4 hotels a week as part of my employment throughout the uk. But my 3 night stay at the Holiday Inn Washington far exceeded my expectations. The hotel itself is to the usual high standard holiday inn hotels provide, however Washington seem to go the extra mile in customer service. It was fantastic to see the management out with their customers ensuring that their needs are met. The staff did a fantastic job. Professional, friendly and approachable. The staff and management are a credit to the holiday inn brand. Large hotel chains normally treat you as a number, Washington treats their customers 5*. Food was spot on, and although we didn't sample the Gin menu, looked very well presented. Thank you Holiday Inn Washington for a very pleasant 3 night stay. Staff: keep doing what you are doing! I said at the Holiday Inn on several occasions whilst working in nearby Birtley. The holiday is close to the major road links and is easy to find. As other reviewers have said, the exterior of the hotel is not the best but the hotel itself is very nice. Rooms are very standard for this chain but are clean and comfortable. I had to do some night shifts while I was here but am pleased to report that there was no external noise. For breakfast there is a good choice of cooked or continental. Evening meals are somewhat limited and pricey for what you get. Much better choices for eating nearby. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful Collapse

We always stopped here while visiting family, the breakfasts are nice and filling, other meals are nice too, the staff always try to help you, the hotel is a 15 minute taxi drive to Newcastle, where weekend nights are the best you will ever have, especially if you are male (sorry if that sounds sexist), but the Geordie girls are very friendly. Washington it's self has a few bars in the High Street and the Village has 4 pubs withing 5 minutes walking. Collapse
