Hair dryer did not work another one sent for, but made getting away tight. Supposed to be free glass of wine somewhere, we never saw it...Took 30£ off our card, I booked online, as a deposit takes days to come off...I definitely do NOT like that! Wanted to charge for breakfast we understood to be include, later confirmed by the reception to be included. So what is that all about...charge us then try to get money back from Holiday Inn. I do not need that kind of stress when travelling. Collapse

I was supposed to be a surprise party birthday guest, it was mine and my sisters birthday party - total surprise however slightly ruined at first by the fact we could see hotel guests (family and friends) arriving and my poor wife had to try and hide this. My wife went down to greet guests at 7pm and my self and my sister were told to be ready for 7.30- the party didn't start until 8.30 and we were stuck in a hot room with no air condition because my sisters room wasn't even ready yet, it was 30 degrees outside as well! Party room was quite bare quite small and dj was drinking alcohol rather then playing the music, staff were not very accommodating and appeared to not no there was a party going on and kept closing the doors to the venue room and wouldn't open any windows so poor guests and my self had to keep going outside for air. My sisters cake was out first and mine appeared half an hour later then staff wanted to take cakes to cut them themselves before my own 4 year old could sing happy birthday to us!! Really overpriced drinks and several drinks poured back into the bottles! Different staff members would charge different prices. Buffett food was minimal and random made sandwiches, a bowl of chips and a pizza for 80 guests, everyone was lucky to even get a bite lt alone a plate to eat. Dj left early and when we asked him questions he wouldn't answer, requests for songs were ignored as he didn't have them and he searched YouTube for longs, manager has ignored all my wife's calls, even on the night refused to speak to us again after he said he would blow up a s balloon to sort the issue. Manager is still ignoring my wife a week later and ignoring his senior managers to get the issue resolved! Over prices hotel with rubbish breakfast which they later brought out different food, two hotel rooms that were supposed to be the same fie me and my sister as birthday guests were completely different. Awful experience Collapse

If I could rate this hotel 0 I really would, I planned an event with the hotel for s surprise birthday and it was destroyed by the manager of the hotel, the party was due to start at 7pm but the hotel hadn't even got it ready when guests started to arrive, it was a surprise party and the birthday people had to share a room in view of the car park so saw guests arriving!! Hotel claimed that balloons were part of their table decorations yet leaflet stated balloons and table decorations separate, colour sequins chucked in the tables which didn't even match the balloons colour and were black! Manager wasn't bothered and lied that he was a normal memeber of staff instead of the manager and hid for 40 minutes while guests were stuck a non decorated room. Dj was due to stay until 12.30 however shut off his equiptment at 12 and left, even party guests asked him why he was leaving and he ignored, he googled songs to play and didn't have a good play list!! Requested songs were ignored due to not having them, Buffett for the part y was tried to be removed after 10 minutes however we had to hide the Buffett food otherwise they were removing it, they lost the birthday cakes and said "trouble locating them" yet the hotel received them the night before like asked. One cake was brought out half an hour earlier then the other and was told to deal with it. Manager quoted it's like "McDonalds" apparently the £500 package is just the basic yet nothing on the leaflet was mentioned that it was a "basic package" photos of the event layout were emailed to me from staff and on the day the manager said that they were "display photos only".. staff POURED drinks that were not drank back into the bottles. In particular rum was poured back into the bottle in front of guests. Drink prices were changed through out the night and they were ridiculously over priced, hotel manager ignored everything and even ignored head office when he was instructed to call me back and resolve the issue, it's been a week and the hotel is still ignoring me complaint gone into head office who have instructed the hotel reply on multiple occasions, when reviewed the hotel on their site or their social media it was removed and only good reviews kept, even though several of my party guests complained. Hotel price room rate was charged different prices to 4 different party members even though given a code for discounted room, hotel took extra payments off cards and overcharged credit cards "in case of buying anything and charging back to room" Completely ruined a surprise party and not acknowledge or even an apology from the hotel - head office have tried to contact the hotel manager PAUL who has ignored everything, would not recommend gooing here at all!! My husband & I stayed here overnight after visiting Durham & Beamish. Easy to find & good location for our base. Efficient quick check-in & room upgraded. Room clean & comfortable with huge comfortable bed & selection of pillows. Usual toiletries, tv & tea & coffee making facilities. We did not eat our evening meal in the hotel but there was a good selection to eat but slightly expensive. There is a Toby Carvery nearby & a champs pub/restaurant. Breakfast was hot with again a good selection of hot & cold buffet. Overall an adequate comfortable stay chosen for location rather than luxury. Collapse

A surprise party for my 2 children, a beautiful room with balloons, sprinkles all the party decorations, dj & disco from 7pm-12.30. Cakes supplied. Room acquisition from 2pm-1am Reality, 4 tables with balloons & white table cloths. Told 2 days before party that they couldn't make the cakes, mad panic. Daughter in law sourced 2 at great expense. Room avaiable from 7pm. (Conference taking place in room) DJ only had 1 set of flashing lights & packed up & left at 12. The cakes were 'lost' we didn't know if they had found them to they appeared during the evening. Then an employee asked to take them to cut them up before my kids had cut them. Drinks- gin & cranberry (single shot) £13.60. Bottle of wine £20.00 in asda £5.00. Total disappointment. Manager was smirking when we were asking for explanations, he answered 'can't answer that' My bedroom wasn't checked, sink didn't work, beautiful walk in shower had blocked plug hole, was 'upgraded' to executive, where the shower was a bath with curtain complete with a pubic hair on the ceiling. Breakfast, rank. Will never go there again. Please don't book a family party of any sort. The manager likened the party to the picture you get at mcdonalds, to actually eating the product, total disappointment. Collapse
