This is without doubt the worst hotel of its type I have ever stayed in. I do urge you to pay a bit more and drive to the opposite side of the M6 and stay at the Village instead which is what I will be doing in the future. I was seduced by the cheap rate available but in hindsight I will be sleeping in my car in future!!! What’s wrong ... where to start. Designed and built in the mid-fifties by a blind architect it has been recently refurbished to look as though it was built in the seventies. Brushed nylon carpets, Alan Partridgesk Norwich Travelodge styling, endless corridors that challenge the theory of infinity, very average rooms with non working bulbs, poor and very expensive breakfast and one public room for all 300 guests. I note the hotel was closed for an extended period (I wonder why) and had the public rooms (room) refurbished in 2016. Clearly the actual hotels rooms were not refurbished at the same time and look very tired indeed. This reviewer has been submitting reviews to TripAdvisor for many years and cannot remember a budget hotel as poor as this. I expect clean, warm accommodation with a decent bar, reasonably priced food, a convenient car park, a quick trouble free check in check out and a good hearty breakfast. That’s not a lot to ask and as an IHG shareholder I would have expected much more from one of their hotels. How on Earth this hotel has fours stars is beyond me unless they have changed the scoring system and it’s now out of a hundred. Very poor indeed ... go to the Village instead, Collapse

I have stayed in this hotel a few times now recently and I’ve never had any major issues. The location is perfect, the rooms are decent and free parking is great. IHG hotels have never let me down. I appreciate the fact that my room was allocated close to reception as I requested via email. I am not the type to complain and some of the other staff in this hotel can agree with this because I am the type of person to give feedback at check out so that a business can improve their service and quality. I have stayed in several hotels all over Birmingham and never have I received such bad customer service. Some of the reception staff in this hotel need customer service training as they’re extremely rude and so defensive. No communication skills, no smile and not a friendly welcome. It was so embarrassing for me in front of my partner. The way things were explained and my whole check in experience was disgusting. The fact my card was authorised before my arrival was not right. The receptionist did not even tell me she had authorised my card, I noticed myself. I wanted to use a different card, but when I saw the pre auth, I decided to pay by cash on check out. I would’ve mentioned all of this then if I had been asked about my stay, but I wasn’t. I’m not put off by the hotel yet and I’ll be visiting again in a few days. I really hope Jayne on reception checks me in because she recognises me and is such a pleasant lovely and welcoming person and her people skills are spot on. Collapse

Really enjoyed our recent stay at the Holiday Inn at Walsall. Just off the motorway M6 J10 - easy to find. Large car park. Staff very welcoming and pleasant. Bedrooms are large with good bathroom and shower. Comfortable large bed. Bar area is excellent with good choice of beers. Wine choice is good as well. We attended a function at the hotel and the quality of mass catering was good. Service was first class as well. If in the area again, will definitely use this hotel - recommended. Collapse

Lovely large free safe car park .Big spacious reception with seating to bar and food area. The staff are very helpfull and attentive. There is a small gym area here and it is on two levels .We used the executive suites for 4 days and the service was superb.I would recomend booking the suites if staying with family,it well worth the extra. The lower floor rooms tend to be a bit noisy . I can say that we did leave one of our many suitcases here and had to go back a week later to collect ,with everything in it.Thank you Holiday Inn top marks for a brilliant stay.Nothing was too much trouble for staff.
