I do like staying in nice hotels but I also stay in a lot of the chain hotels on business and this Holiday Inn is like all the others I stay in that satisfies the basic needs of a travel, ie provides a bed in a safe and consistently clean way which, frankly, is all I need. This Holiday Inn is a five minute walk from Stevenage station which is on the East Coast mainline. The reception staff were efficient and reasonably friendly. I booked an alarm call and went off to my room. TOP TIP – they have a deal with the gym next door which costs £3 if you bring your kit. A twin had been booked for me but the beds were on the generous side size wise with a comfortable mattress and a choice of hard or soft pillows. TOP TIP 2 – Wifi is free. There was desk to work at with plenty of powerpoints, an iron in the room and a decent sized telly with a good range of TV and radio channels. The bathroom only had a shower which was a bit underpowered but plenty of hot water. All in all a pretty standard Holiday Inn room which does the job I need. TOP TIP 3 – I didn’t fancy the food offer in the soulless dining area but there is a decent Weatherspoons on the same block. Breakfast was included which was better than expected. Cereal, fruit, croissants and toast are on the menu as you might expect. There was a decent hot food option of Cumberland sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs and beans. Even better you can order veggie sausage which came out a bit overcooked - but at least they are trying. The coffee out of machine was the usual bilge but was hot. This is a Holiday Inn which does the job but if you want a touch of luxury in any form this isn’t the place for that. Collapse

Stayed here as part of a tour. Room was ok, beds were comfy enough, room was very dark and some of the lights didn't work. Also, really? A frosted glass toilet door? You could see through it! Dinner was included in the hotel as part of deal and it was nice to see a family effort in for dinner, you know , uncle Ben and aunt Bessie. Soup tasted like blended veg with a random array of ingredients from a spice rack that didn't go together. Then followed by a weird chicken in sauce with rice and frozen roast potatoes. And followed by a frozen cheesecake. It was disgusting and most people on our tour agreed. Breakfast was ok, cheap ingredients as usual chain places offer. Scrambled eggs looked questionable though. In the unlikely event I'm ever in Stevenage again, I'll avoid. Collapse

I have stayed at the Holiday Inn in Stevenage a few times now and it has always been a nice experience. The rooms are always clean and the staff are friendly, this is the reason why we always come back to the same hotel when we are visiting family. Generally I book an executive room as they are spacious with a king bed and the on site parking is also a bonus. I booked a executive room for this weekend and was checked in very swiftly by the receptionist staff. I was only dropping our bags off in the room as I had other engagements at the time. When I returned early that evening with my wife I noticed that the room we had (625) was not up to he same high standard that we have come to expect from an executive room at the Holiday Inn. In the bathroom the bath panel was mouldy and and damaged, the bottom right hand corner looked as if it was breaking off due to water damage. A light fitting was hanging out of the ceiling, various parts of plasterboard were missing/coming off - this I know may seem trivial, and had it been a standard room I would have accepted that this type of ware and tear happens, but not when your paying for one of the hotels best rooms. There was also a hole in the bedroom wall that looked like the result of someone’s foot going through it. I reported these issues to reception in the hope of moving rooms, however due to the hotel being booked there were no other exec rooms available, however the hotel did then include breakfast to the room to try and make up for the disappointment. I would not let this experience put me off staying here, in fact I am booked in again at the end of the month, I will however request a room number that I have stayed in before as I know what standard the room is Collapse

Hospitable it wasn't. Very poor greeting by male receptionist ... parking across the road unless an executive room and lied to by breakfast waiter. NEVER AGAIN! I asked the receptionist why he had such a manner but denied that he did ... he said all the right words but there was no sincerity or warmth. Going across to the car park was ridiculous and hardly any staff around at breakfast and then the waiter lied about my tea. No thanks. Collapse
