The cleanliness of this hotel is shocking! Once my room wasn't cleaned at all, the toilet has been disgusting and the cups in the room had still porridge in it when I have arrived! I have complained on numerous occasions unfortunately nothing has been sorted, that why only one star. Lovely staff deserved the one star. Otherwise the hotel is overpriced for getting this kind of service. I have never been to worse hotel!! Collapse

I originally sent this review/complaint to the online customer services at IHG hotels on 22 May 2017. I told my family if they didn’t respond within a month that I would put my complaint letter on Trip Advisor unfortunately here it is… We arrived at the Sittingbourne Holiday Inn on Friday 19th May in the afternoon following a family funeral earlier in the day. I had pre-booked two rooms for four people. Other family members booked their own rooms. We checked in and went to our rooms they were clean and spacious. Together with family members who live in Sittingbourne, we booked to eat in the hotel restaurant later that evening and food was very basic but fine. On the Saturday there was a wedding in the hotel and it all started to go downhill from there, unfortunately. I was out for the day on a four-hour round trip visit and when I got back at around 4pm the seating area outside Reception (which had obviously been used for the champagne reception, although the guests had moved on by now), was strewn with dirty champagne glasses etc. I didn’t think much about it at this point. This also extended to the foyer with bottles, glasses, children’s drinks bottles and crisps all over the coffee tables. I decided to go to the bar to get a drink and something to eat but the wedding party had completely taken over the bar area - there wasn’t any free seats and it was two deep at the bar so I went back to the reception to ask if there was anywhere else I could go to get a drink or food but was told ‘no sorry - but they’ll probably be going into the reception soon’ so I said I’d wait in the foyer. Whilst I was sitting there a gust of wind knocked some glasses off the tables outside onto the patio area and they smashed. When the next member of staff came past I mentioned that the glasses were blowing off the tables outside and she said ‘okay’ but then went off around the back and no one came to clear in the 20 minutes or so that I was sat there. At this point the wedding party children were running around screaming on the first floor mezzanine level and it was echoing through the foyer so I thought I’d go back to my room for some peace and quiet - however that wasn’t to be either. Shortly after arriving, a small girl (aged 7, it transpired during the following altercation) came running through the corridor and into the room next to mine crying and apologising to her ‘granny’. Minutes later another woman came in screaming like a banshee at this unfortunate child, she called this young girl the two most offensive swear words you can imagine (yes those two!) at least four or five times and then began screaming at the top of her voice with every second word a swear word, all because the child had spilled Coke on her dress. I was very close to calling the Police to come to the hotel, as this woman was so incensed, I was convinced this child was going to be physically abused as well. A man appeared and calmed the situation down and they all left shortly afterwards. Needless to say I was in a room with the door closed and so were they, so there is little in the way of soundproofing. I can’t have been the only hotel guest that heard all this as it was insanely loud. I was actually quite shaken at this point but because of the wedding, I didn’t have anywhere else to go and my family members hadn't returned yet. We left to go out at around 7.15pm and the foyer table and the tables outside were still covered in the same glasses and broken glass. There were a couple of long tables of foreign tour operator guests in the restaurant - goodness only knows what they must have thought. When we returned at 11.20pm, there was still glasses (and broken glass) on the tables outside, accompanied by hundreds of cigarette butts by now but there were no guests out there and the foyer was a dump, rubbish everywhere and even an empty toilet roll in the lift. In the morning the upstairs corridors still had the remnants of rubbish, sweets and wedding petals strewn around the floors and the lifts. Certainly not what you’d expect from a £150 a night hotel! I’m not a prude in any way shape or form, I’ve got nothing against weddings or children in hotels and I don’t blame the Holiday Inn for the wedding guest’s behaviour. I do find it astounding that a wedding party can be allowed ‘take over’ a hotel to such a degree and there not be any alternative facilities for the other guests. There were obviously not enough staff on shift to cope with the disruption and at the very least keep the communal areas clean and clear. To add insult to injury when we checked out I had a huge shock when I ended up paying an additional £160 - which I did query at the time but got told ‘that is correct’ - I needed to get back to my home computer to check the confirmation that said £436 and the bill I received was £596.00. In total we paid £602.95 for our room and room service (because I couldn’t get to the bar) for a 2-night stay but we also spent an additional £252 on the family meal and over £100 in the bar on the first night (so nearly £1,000 - I don’t consider that cheap for a two-night stay) - plus whatever my other family members attending the event paid for their rooms and bar bills. I’d be interested to see whether they got any other complaints, not least from the Tour Operator (whom I assume use this particular hotel on a regular basis) and I have to say it’s not boding well for any future bookings from us or any good recommendations either… Collapse

We've stayed in the holiday inn a few times as we have family in sittingbourne and it's always been lovely but this time was disappointing as the air con wasn't working on one of the hottest weekends!! Some other family members who were there had no air con either, they spoke to the reception but were told that due to it being bank holiday that no engineers were on site so it most likely wouldn't be fixed this weekend, and offered a free drink voucher per person (3 people). Due to my air con working when I left the hotel and then not working when I went back to sleep I was unable to let anyone know and had to sweat all night and rush out in the morning to the cool air! As I've said it's a lovely hotel but this time it was just a bit disappointing ! Collapse

We booked this hotel for a night as it's only a 0.5 hour drive from Lydden hill Rallycross circuit. It was easy to find off the M2 and had good size, free car park; the reception area was pleasant as was check in. Our room on the first floor was modern and comfortable with a comfortable bed, the bathroom was very good quality with a rain shower cubicle and another shower over the bath! We ate in the restaurant in the evening and for breakfast. Breakfast was pretty standard with good quality hot and cold offerings. The evening meal was good quality and offered good value but as others have said this was let down by the time taken from ordering, waiting staff were apologetic - I'm sure this could be easily rectified.
