We stayed at the Holiday Inn on Columbus Avenue about eight years ago and it was great so we booked it again this year. However this time we weren't in the Columbus avenue one but the annex around the corner on Beach street. This one doesn't have a pool and you have to use Denny's dinner if you don't want to walk a block back to the one on Columbus to eat. Our stay started off with checking in at Columbus avenue then being told we were in the annex so we had to haul our cases a block to the annex. When we got into our room there was urine in the toilet and somebody else's socks on the bedroom floor. I called the reception who said there weren't any spare rooms but they would send housekeeping up. This was a non speaking bloke with a toilet brush and a bin bag who cleaned the toilet and picked up the socks. We checked the bed linen was clean and stayed. We were give a sea view which was great because you could see The Rock, however if you look at the photos you will see that this building is on a major junction and has a tram/trolley bus clanking past your single glazed window from 6am until midnight combine this with every sort of vehicle stop starting at the lights and you don't get much sleep. We won't stay there again and I can't recommend it to you. Collapse

This Holiday Inn has the location. Stayed four nights. It's staff at the front desk are fairly new for the most part. The rooms are spacious. An overpriced Denny's inside. One building is for two beds a room and the other building is single beds per room. The bell hops are good. They tow so make sure you renew your parking pass. The parking is very tight. I just couldn't get over the tourist trap pricing not to mention the $57 per day parking. You have to park at one building and walk to the other at night. This franchise or management were a bit of a disappointment. The tourist trap pricing and $57 per night parking were the determining factor in the 3 star review. Collapse

We arrived late evening having booked two nights stay. Being told we are in the annex. Walk out of the door on to main road turn left walk 50 yards past dodgy bus stop turn left again then either go through Denny's 24 hour snack bar no alcohol. Or keep going and turn right through car park to entrance No reception use key to operate lift to your floor. On finding your room by yourself you then read a lefelet advising you not to answer the door to anyone unless you ring reception first. I could no believe it. We paid£250 per night to stay in a motel. Not hotel with bar and gym and pool ect ect. God we were upset. We complained the morning. Only a few hours after we arrived and we're told the hotel was full. We had booked this hotel not just walked in. How could we use any hotel facilities when we were two hundred yards away. So we are very upset I agree the hotel is near fishermen wharf but all the literature ect shows what you should have and we had nothing very upset and £250 per night a disgrace. Collapse
Good location for exploring the wharf area

We stayed here for one night, with a goal of exploring the wharf area before heading to national parks. This was a handy location with reasonable prices for room and parking. It was walking distance to some food options as well.

This hotel is well-kept and well-located, and we were pleased with everything about it except for one big thing that was inconvenient and cost us money. My husband and I were planning to stay in the SF area for nine days, seven of them in this hotel and the other two on overnight tours to Wine Country and Yosemite. We planned to have the bulk of our luggage stored in the hotel for the 2 nights we would be gone, something we have done many times in other hotels on other trips without difficulty. We had 3 separate reservations for our stay, separated by the nights we would be away. When we initially checked in, we mentioned our plans to have them hold our luggage, and they said we should not count on them being able to do that. Not wanting to take a chance, we ended up having to hold the room for the entire nine days, even though we were not there for two of them. But they were incapable of consolidating it into one long stay. Instead, we had to check out and check in for each of the original reservations, standing in line, and getting new key cards each time. But it gets worse. The first time we had to go through the ridiculous process of checking out/in, I was standing in the lobby waiting for my husband and I happened to notice a glass-front door next to the front desk. It was clearly the room where they hold luggage, and it was almost empty except for a couple of suitcases. The room was huge, and I made a point of keeping an eye on it from day to day after that point. I never saw more than a dozen bags in the room, and it could have held hundreds. I don't know how those people got so lucky, or why the hotel was incapable of holding our bags, but I know they could have. Other than that particular service issue, the hotel is fine. Collapse
