We stayed three nights at the Holiday Inn Rome - Eur Parco Dei Medici. We had researched the area extensively before choosing to stay in the hotel and were very aware that we would be staying in a business district away from the city center. This fact should not come as a surprise to anyone who has done their proper homework. Since we had arranged for a private tour guide, the location was well-suited to our visit. Even with my homework however, we still were clueless when it came to catching the free shuttle from the airport to the hotel. The information desk at the airport didn't have any information either. We finally decided to activate our phone and call the hotel, and were told us where to go to catch the shuttle. That's when we found out that the hotel shuttle runs on a set schedule from the airport. It would have been most helpful for the hotel to have this information readily available on their website, especially for international travelers who have to pay to use their phone when out of the country. Once we found the shuttle and made it to the hotel we were quickly checked in. We stayed on points, so there was no upgraded room for us but the double room we received was quite satisfactory. It was spacious enough and housekeeping did a good job on our room each day. Our only complaint about the room (and the hotel in general) was the fact that our room was really hot. When we asked at the desk about it we were informed that the AC was turned off for the season. Well, it may have been cool outside, but inside our room it was more like a sauna. Most hotels allow the guests to decide whether or not to use the AC, so perhaps this is a European thing? Anyway, we discovered that we could open the window. It didn't have screens so we were fortunate that in early November we didn't have to deal with flying insects. There was a lot of mildew around the windows – probably because it was so hot in the room. Humidity and heat encourage that sort of thing. There were a couple of things to note which might be beneficial to other travelers: 1. The way to find the hotel shuttle is to go outside to the ground transportation pickup area, past Terminal 3. There you will find a sign which gives the bus schedule and location. Once you know what time you will be picked up, you might want to go back inside the terminal to wait as there is no place to sit at the pick-up point. 2. There is no ATM at this property. We needed euros for the tours we booked, so the desk clerk directed us to an ATM location a short walk from the hotel. 3. The hotel guide says there is ice available on each floor, but there are no ice machines. You have to ask for ice at the bar. 4. Restaurants are limited in the area, so plan accordingly. We did not have dinner in the restaurant, but the food and drinks we ordered in the hotel bar were just fine and served in a timely fashion. Holiday Inn Rome - Eur Parco Dei Medici is fairly typical of a Holiday Inn. The hotel is well-run and the staff we encountered were pleasant and accommodated us by speaking English since our Italian was limited. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would consider returning in the future. Collapse
Average Stay, Far From Attractions, Friendly Staff (Except in the Gift Shop)

Our stay at this hotel was average and what we expected for the most part. The room was clean and the front desk staff was very courteous and kind. The only downsides to this hotel were its distance from downtown and the man who worked in the gift shop. The regional train runs to the nearby Muratella Station and it is a short 5 minute walk from the hotel. You can ride the train for 1.50 Euro and transfer to a bus or tram from there. The only issue with transportation is after about 10:30 pm you can not ride the regional train back, so if you plan to stay out late in the city to take in some of the night life this is not the place for you. You are left with having to take a very expensive cab back about 65 Euros or doing what we did and riding the buses. The bus works just fine but you will have to transfer once or twice from your location and the overall trip back will take you an hour and a half to two hours. This can waste precious time especially if you have things planned for early the next morning as we did most days. There is nowhere to buy the train or bus tickets at the muratella station so you are left with having to purchase your tickets from the gift shop inside the hotel. This would be fine except they only take cash and the man who ran the shop was less than friendly. We were told by the front desk one night we could purchase our tickets for the the first train at the gift shop when they opened at 5:30 AM in order to catch the first train so we didn't miss our tour we had scheduled. The store was open and the clerk was putting away newspapers in front of the front cash register. We entered and asked to purchase train tickets and he stated it was too early and to come back in twenty minutes. We explained we couldn't wait twenty minutes because we would miss our tour and he stated "then leave." I then went back to the front desk of the hotel and explained he would not sell us the tickets we needed. The front desk was extremely courteous and had a handful of tickets set aside they were able to sell us, so it all worked out in the end. Overall I would recommend this hotel for the price if you don't mind taking a few hours out of each day for the commute back and forth to the city and you avoid the gift shop. We simply purchased the remainder of our tickets we needed in town before returning to the hotel. Collapse

This property is not bad, necessarily, it's just poorly located near the highway and not a lot of choices around for dining and takes some effort to get into the city. We did not eat in the restaurant except for our included breakfast which was plentiful and had quite a bit of variety. The rooms were average mid-range hotel but there is no in-room safe for passports, etc while out for the day. If you are looking for a hotel that is within walking distance to anything, this is not the place for you. It's about a 30 minute drive to the sites and does offer a shuttle for a small fee both ways. Collapse

Admitted, we decided to stay here only because of the proximity to the airport and didn't expect much. But we were pleasantly surprised. We'll definitely be coming back on our next Rome visit. For starters, staff were excellent, friendly, smiling, seemed to care. As a global traveller staying some 150 nights a year in hotels, I've learned that there is a correlation between how naturally service minded staff are and the quality of a guest experience. So A+ on that account. Bellissimo. Great pool area, which our kids enjoyed tremendously. I liked the outside seating area where one could relax with a cuppa or a light snack. Not to mention the green areas. Lovely, and quite hard to find in Rome. Internet speed was decent. The rooms were ok, water pressure not so great. If you are looking for TV entertainment, it is a good idea to speak Italian;-) Sadly we left this hotel after only 1 night to go to Crowne Plaza - another IHG hotel. That was a mistake. We should have stayed at the Holiday Inn Eur Medici. Oh, well. Live and learn ;-) So nice to know that the Holiday Inn brand delivers what they promise. Collapse

We initially chose another hotel, which subsequently closed down, so we were given this hotel. We were happy enough as it had a pool, and said there was a shuttle to and from the city centre each day. The pool was nice, as was the bedroom, but that's about it. We were there for a week, and paid €40 each day to get in and out of the city! And we had to go to the city for food, as we went to the restaurant once, and the food was VERY average and VERY expensive! There was no choice really, the food wasn't even typical Italian cuisine. There is also NO ATM near the hotel, which is not great as the shop on site only takes cash (to purchase bus tickets). Collapse
