We were extremely disappointed with our check in experience at this hotel. After we were assigned our room by the young lady at reception we asked what type of room we were given. She replied that we were given the room which we paid for which was at the side /back of the hotel (it actually had a lovely view of the garbage cans and the parking lot). We asked her why we were not upgraded since we were platinum elite members. She did not reply instead she called over her colleague “Victor” and showed him the computer screen. He told her “NO”. He did not look at us, address us or in any way acknowledge our presence. We explained to the young lady that we were normally upgraded and she replied that the hotel was full. We asked if it was full the following day and the day after that , since we were staying for three days. Victor came over and told us that at that moment the hotel was not full for the following days but we should find him the next day and ask again if we could be upgraded. Not that he was going to find out for us and let us know. Not certain what type of customer service this is. Perhaps he momentarily forgot what side of the reception desk he was on and wanted us to do his job for him. When we told him that we were normally upgraded he proceeded to inform us that that was not how things worked . He knew how things worked since he had worked for the hotel chain for a very long time and we were given perks other than an upgrade. These perks happened to be a small plastic bottle of water and a chocolate bar. Furthermore, we were told that if we wanted to have the upgrade we should pay for it. Wow, REALLY !! We do believe that it is very clearly written on the IHG website that Platinum members are entitled to free upgrades when available. So, was it only available for us to purchase and not as one of our perks of benefits as being loyal customers. We travel extensively, both for business and for leisure in a vast array of countries. The great majority of the time we are treated as valued customers and with great respect at the IHG hotels. This time we were not and it absolutely tarnished our stay at this hotel. After posting this review to the IHG Nice Website the employee in question replied:Dear Mrs. Loralu, I would like to thank ypu for your feedback. But, please, let me clarify some points and take my own defense: First of all the young lady was an intern, an student learning how to work, that is was she did not have all the answers and call me to help her out. I came out and she explained me whas was your issue. Of course i said hello, i welcomed you and your partner to our hotel. I explained you that you booked an standard room and unfortunately in your arrival date we did not have available garden view or see view rooms to upgrade you, that upgrades were subjets to availability upon the arrival date, but you did not like my right answer and threatened me with wrtitting a bad rewiew which actually you did. I keep continue to be polite and tell you that you could try to ask us the day after of your arrival day if we have one room available for upgrade, but apparently you did not. I try to explained you the other benefits of your membership status (welcome amenities, points, late check out, etc)but you did not want to listen. I even found for you a nice table in our beautiful restaurant by the sea, that was already fully booked in order to please you and I guess you enjoyed very much. Mrs. Loralu i just wanted to tell you that we try to do everthing that we had in our hands to make your stay a pleasant one and i am sorry if our mission was not accomplished. My advise is that sometimes, to enjoy or not it is just a attitude question. Have a great date. Victor In reply to this and in OUR DEFENSE: We NEVER "THREATEN" anybody and we most certainly did not threaten you. We find that comment rude and insulting. You most certainly DID NOT greet us when you initially assisted your trainee. You DID tell us to purchase the superior room for the following days as opposed to upgrading us for those days. I believe our phone accidently captured the entire check in process on video. Yes, you did get us a table at your restaurant, is that not your job. We also believe that the manager should respond to issues and complaints as opposed to hotel staff. Facts are facts. Collapse

I was here to look into some issues for my company. I spent most of my time at and around the hotel. My room was comfortable. The breakfast was good. There were quite a few restaurants along the beach. I was there in March which wasn't quite beach weather, but I tried to go for a walk every morning. There is a small bar on the first floor which was good for a beer or two or three. There is a shopping mall about 10 minutes walk away with a good supermarket where I bought bread, cheese, butter, ham, jelly, and Easter treats to take back for the kids. The train was about a 15 minute walk near the mall (but check a map...). They offered a free shuttle bus to the nearby airport. I was lucky enough to be here to lose yet another hour due to the Summer Time Adjustment :-( About 10 minutes away by walking is a mall with a very nice supermarket where I bought bread, cheese Collapse

No air conditioning working that time of year, room was too hot, they had to bring in a fan that didn't help much. No warning that AC was not functioning. I found out only when I asked. Absurd that a int'l branded hotel would not offer option for heat or AC simply due to time of year in a sub-tropical location. Opening the windows at night (which I did until going to sleep) was not an option due to the very loud street noise outside. Price too expensive for ocean-view room that may have been quieter, but still with no AC. Also, no direction on how to call front desk / reception. It is NOT with a zero (0). However, excellent oceanfront beach-walk location with very busy / noisy highway on other side. Collapse

Recently-renovated, well-managed property, set in a pleasant tree-lined garden leading to a well-kept public beach. The atmosphere is tranquil since the hotel is located in the quiet town of St. Laurent du Var, just to the west of Nice, with good transportation facilities close at hand. The beach promenade is about a half-mile long, and boasts more than a dozen restaurants, with cuisines ranging from French bistro and Italian pizzeria to Indian. Half of the hotel's rooms have balconies, offering glorious sea views across the bay to Antibes. Good access to Nice airport (via complimentary shuttle) and a modern shopping mall (Cap 3000), which contains a large supermarket (closed Sundays). The staff is very pleasant and helpful --- especially Yannick and Renaud at Reception, who provided invaluable advice concerning local bus/train information to places of interest in the region. Our room was large and well furnished and maintained. The bed was extremely comfortable. A buffet breakfast (both hot & cold) served downstairs provided a good start to each day. A self-service laundry (use of washer & dryer for Euros 10) is available to hotel guests. Collapse
