From the outside this place doesn't give the greatest impression but the staff is excellent, the shuttle driver very nice, and the room was spotless. The breakfast buffet was tasty. Pleasant experience all around.

Employees working at this hotel are very accommodating. 1 quick call from the airport and they immediately sent their shuttle bus to pick us up, mind you this was almost 12 midnight. Found out the next day that they have a lot of shuttle buses available. When we checked-in, Lovena was very helpful even though it was almost midnight. She was helpful and cheery. Room was okay, big enough to accommodate us 3. The bathroom was big but found it weird that the faucet was situated outside. Had breakfast the next day, not a lot of options though but good enough. So overall, this hotel was just right for us to stay overnight after flying across the Pacific Ocean and having to flight out the next day. Collapse

The hotel itself is nice and clean, the staff is nice, and the restaurant in the lobby is superb (though pricey). The air conditioner/heater is excellent. And I love the showers. Big shower heads that are delightful. On the other hand, the thin walls between rooms account for me being awakened at 2am by a screaming baby in the next room, which kept me up the rest of the night. Yes, it is close to the airport, but that's about it. If you're driving, then I wish you luck. the highway system surrounding the hotel is like a bowl of spaghetti. Every time I went out I got lost 2 or 3 times, and that's using GPS. And even though the airport is pretty much across the street, you have to drive far south and U-turn to get there. And driving in Newark is a nightmare for anyone not familiar with the area. And if you want to take the train into NYC, the terminal is less than 1/2 mile away, almost walking distance. But you can't walk there, or drive there and leave your car. You have to take the airport shuttle into the airport (opposite direction), then grab the Airtrain at stop P4, which brings you back past the hotel to the train station. At least 15 minutes to get 1/2 mile. And if you're looking for a mall or something to do in the area, forget it. Your best bet is to take the train into NYC. There are no nearby restaurants or shopping centers or anywhere you'd want to go. Which means to eat you have to eat in the lobby restaurant, which is pricey, though the food is excellent. So unless you're only staying for a quick layover, I'd suggest you take a train to someplace more rural and more inviting. The train system in the area is excellent, and goes pretty much everywhere. I booked into this hotel as bad weather in New York and Trump causing flight delays out of Palm Beach International in Florida meant I had missed a connecting flight to Glasgow. The hotel itself was fine for an airport stopover, albeit the rooms were a bit on the old fashioned side, but that said functional enough for what I needed. If you do stay here take a pair of ear plugs as the noise that comes off the AC/heater unit makes you believe you are far closer to the airport than you are ! Luckily I had a pair, so I slept well enough. The most pleasing thing for me was the on-demand airport pick up / drop off service which gets you to the monorail station within ten minutes from leaving the hotel. The hotel is literally only a hundred yards or so from the monorail station however the route is complicated and sees you criss crossing several major road systems to get there. As I had a whole day to waste before catching an evening flight, I passed some of the time with a trip into Manhattan. It was simple enough to get there using the hotel airport drop off service to P4 (monorail station), the monorail to the railway station and then a train straight into New York Penn Station, which is under Madison Square Gardens on 7th Avenue. This was within easy walking reach of Times Square, Macy's and The Empire State Building. From the hotel to Penn Station it took a little under an hour. Collapse

We’ve stayed several times at the Newark airport Holiday Inn, and can recommend it highly. It is very close to the terminals, and the shuttle is very quick on the draw with very helpful drivers. We use the park and fly package, so we come in and stay one night leave for a week, and come back to the hotel for another night and our car is ready to go. Some people have noted that it's noisy, and I really don't see that. I mean, it's near an airport and a major highway. Buy some earplugs, but I don't think it's an issue and I'm a fairly sensitive sleeper. Reception is always friendly and professional. All the staff in the front or back of the house is very friendly and they dress to impress, which can be rare. It shows they respect their jobs and the hotel. It’s been remodeled fairly recently, and the rooms are very comfortable and decorated in a stylish black/gray motif. I can say that there are more than enough USB and electric outlets scattered throughout the room to cover any business traveler’s needs. We stayed twice in the past two weeks, and each room seems to have kind of a daybed/curl up sofa that is very comfortable and conducive to relaxing or working. The bathroom set up was slightly outmoded, with the sink separate from the toilet and shower. Water was hot and the pressure was good. Very serviceable. Because of the reputation of Newark International, we are grateful that the restaurant opens early and stays open until midnight. The lounge is cozy, and the restaurant staff is a cut above the usual business/airport hotel. They act with courtesy and professionalism and have a good system of team table service. Because many Europeans stay, they do have a gratuity added to the bill, but I routinely add money because the service is so good. The food could be considered a bit pricey, but there is no other option nearby and the portions are huge. The menu itself pretty imaginative and the salad bar is not boring. I think most people would be surprised at the quality. Good desserts as well. We had two dinners and a breakfast, and enjoyed all of them. We did not use room service, which looks like a big part of their business, because we actually enjoy sitting in the clean and nicely appointed dining area. “Chef Nate” also provides daily specials and vegetarian options. The price for the rooms is competitive with other chains such as Hilton and Marriott, although you will get sticker shock from the state and local sales taxes but that not the hotel’s fault. Business center is very serviceable, as is the online boarding pass service. The gym is nice. We’ve been staying here in all its forms since at least 2005, and this will always be our go to choice when confronting The Weird World of Newark International Airport. Collapse
