I was put off by the few reviews that said there were suspect people hanging around outside. Having never been to NY before, it worried me a bit. Let me say there was no need to be. The hotel is lovely. Rooms are small, but you'd expect that in a city. Tea and coffee facilities available in the room and cleaning service daily. Bed was soooooooooo comfy and large tv in the room. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Location was perfect for us. A two minute stroll from the bus station and subway. 5 minutes to Times Square. Yes, there were some characters about, but not right outside, and it is a city. What do you expect?! I never felt unsafe. If you're reading this considering booking, DO IT! You'll not be disappointed. I'm very jealous. NYC is the best place in the world. We hope to return very soon Collapse

Check in was painless. Room was nicely furnished. It was strange that you needed to use room key to turn lights on. Close to many activities. Price wasn't to bad. They don't waste any space in the rooms.

We spent five days, four nights at this hotel recently on a small vacation to NYC as a couple. The hotel is very well situated for most major tourist attractions. The subway is within easy access. Times square is a few moments walk away and it is exactly between Hells Kitchen and the Theater District. It is very near Penn Station. The lobby is very tiny and frigid in the winter weather, but the staff does all they can to keep people moving and happy. The hotel itself is very clean and tidy and is modern and fresh in its decor, with a restful color scheme and some upscale details. The hotel itself is quite small. Each floor has eight rooms. There are two elevators and two stairways. The room we occupied, 3107, was compact but well planned. Most of the space is efficiently used and we were not claustrophobic. I did find the closet space would be more useful without an iron and ironing board in it. I would think this would be an item that could be requested when needed but kept in storage elsewhere in order to free more space for clothing. There are only two drawers for clothing in the room as well and this is sparse. I do not understand why drawers are not added underneath the bed. The bed was probably the most comfortable we have ever experienced in a hotel and we slept very well. The staff was helpful. Mary, at check in, was friendly and cheerful and Rocky took good care of our bags when we wandered out while awaiting our room to be ready. We needed a corkscrew and this caused a bit of drama and then threats of a fee if not returned, which was odd. Most hotels keep these for their patrons' convenience. Ultimately it was returned just fine and no fee was charged, but the threats of it were a little off-putting. The largest complaint we would have about the hotel would be the lack of adequate insulation against noise. We had rowdy frat brothers in the room next to use screaming at the tops of their lungs at 2:30 in the morning. A brief phone call downstairs, however, had the situation dealt with promptly and without fuss, which was appreciated. The housekeeping staff was also unnecessarily noisy, with three of them cleaning that same room at once and letting the door slam repeatedly over a length of time that seemed inappropriate for the size of the room and the number of ladies cleaning. This was late in the afternoon, when we were trying to nap before heading out to a show. The bathroom is not as private as some may wish. It didn't bother us, but then we have been married many years. It could be uncomfortable if sharing a room with someone less intimate than a spouse. The inability to have power in the bathroom without inserting the room card into a slot in the wall near the door to the room was just weird and a nuisance, as was the glass on the sliding door, which was frosted, but unable to keep light from the room during the night and thus causing us to wake one another. So unnecessary. All in all, we agreed we were uncertain if we would stay in this hotel again. It was clean, modern and as much done with the space allowed as possible. It also was in a truly great location. We saw no sign of any "questionable people" hanging around in front of it after dark at all. The elevators were also not the issue for us that others have reported here either. In fact, they were pretty efficient. The bed was comfortable and we had a lovely view of the river from our room. Service from the staff was warm and friendly without fail and we enjoyed having the Keurig in the room. However, it was super unacceptably noisy and had some inconveniences that aren't a problem in similar caliber hotels in the area, including the troublesome issue with having to use the room key once again to have power in the bathroom and then the frosted glass in the bathroom that did not block the light from disturbing sleeping persons at night. We also missed having a lobby in which to lounge and read or socialize. These issues may not be a big deal to others. They were pretty close to deal breakers for us....except the price was actually exceptional given the location in the city. We agreed if the price continued to be that good, we would probably stay there again. Collapse

This hotel is in a really good location for reaching many of the sights. Rooms are small but clean, warm and very comfortable. Housekeeping very efficient. We had dinner in the hotel's restaurant one evening. Tasty food, good selection and typically New York large portions! Many other restaurants very close by. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. As many others have said, there are only 2 lifts and we did have to wait a while at times. However, we would recommend this hotel as a great base for exploring NYC. Collapse
