I have stayed at many Holiday Inns and this has to be the worst one by far. When I checked in, I was told I had been upgraded to a suite..... surely that was a nice quiet room with extra features??.... how wrong I was..... it was a very standard room with a rotten window that didn't shut. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, except my room was facing an extremely busy road with traffic passing all night. There was secondary double glazing but this was also broken. I think it would have been quieter trying to sleep on the hard shoulder of the M1! There are plenty of other hotels in Milton Keynes - my advice would be to stay at any other hotel. I certainly won't be going back. Collapse

I stay at a lot of Holiday Inns so it's easy to compare each location. This one is going through a refit so bits closed off and a mild bit of disruption, but you'd hardly notice. Despite this I still give 5 stars as the staff went out off their way to looked after me by giving me special parking and a room upgrade. It's not a usual HI... it almost feels like an independent. It's an old building with plenty of character and nice fixtures and fittings. The standard of refurb you could see was very high and tasteful and bodes well for the final look. Collapse

The hotel was undergoing refurbishment during my stay - and if there current works are anything to go by it is going to look lovely when finished. I have been here a few times for various events and it was in need of a little TLC so it's good to see this finally happening. Upon check in the reception were extremely helpful, my room was larger than expected with absolutely no issues, and a newly refurbished bathroom including double shower. I specifically requested a room in a quiet area of the hotel upon my check in, and the staff were happy to alter my room etc. at the drop of a hat. I did not have any issues with noise of any kind. The bar staff were friendly and helpful, but I did not use the restaurant. The only thing that could benefit from improvement is the car machines in the bar, as they would not connect so I was unable to use my card to make purchases, which is a real pain as the nearest cash point is a drive into Newport Pagnell. On the whole I was really impressed with the hotel and the staff. The size and quality of my room greatly exceeded expectations and I shall definitely be returning. Collapse

Hmmm where do I start? The hotel is clearly undergoing a refurbishment, and by the sounds of the comments below a much needed one too. Having walked down one of the old corridors and staying in the new corridor you can happily say it's 1000% better. Reception is not well located at all. Plenty of directional signage outside, then all of a sudden it stops. Not a great start to arrival with me and other guests trying to find our way in. When I got in we had to scramble over our trusty friend Henry to get to a very empty and un-organised desk. Staff didn't have a clue what they were doing, and called me by three different surnames within the space of five minutes. Then had the shambles of trying to explain that my room was already paid for including food, only for her to try and find some scrap paper. Rooms however are beautiful. Again clearly upgraded, and much better home comforts. Few complaints though... the work surface needs a deep clean. You can see where the work has been carried out, and also previous guests ring makes. Why have you chosen not to put sockets at the side of the bed?! Aggggggh!! And why do hotels insist on putting the loo roll holder so close to the toilet you can't sit on the toilet straight? The shower looks amazing, until you turn it on and actually realise the water pressure is abysmal. Get in the shower, and shower gel on the wall is completely empty. Then you need to hunt down the 1950's hair dryer which is stuck to the wardrobe. Who wants to stand at a wardrobe to dry your hair while having to hold down a really annoying button?! (which also produced little to no heat and hadn't been PAT tested since January 2016). You also need to train your house keepers in to cleaning legs, table in my room hadn't been cleaned for weeks Went to the bar for food, splendid experience! Food was cooked perfect, fantastic choice and really quick too. Also want to say how amazing one of the staff there is, Charlie Brown. He is a complete asset to the business! He knows how to keep the guests happy. Sadly breakfast couldnt have been any further from the experience the night before. The member of staff couldn't wait to get your room number out of you, even before you get a good morning. Choice was great but it felt as if it was just scraps of everything. Dissapointed with hot selection, no fried eggs like advertised, the scrambled egg looks and tasted absolutely disgusting. Mushrooms were swimming in butter, tomatoes barely cooked, and bacon had all congealed together. As all of the above was scraps we had to ask mr number grabber to bring out more and milk too. When they did start bringing out more they just started piling fresh stuff on top of all the congealed scraps - not great processes! And despite giving my IHG card twice, it's still not active on the app. Collapse

Booked king size bed ( two single beds pushed together with poor mattress topper ) thus in reality slept on a single. Window lock broken ( had to jam the lock with a tea spoon ) . Wall light hanging off. No hand soap in room ( reception informed & yep nothing done ) . Evening meal was a poor , ordered chilly with rice and a portion of sweet potato fries on the side . ( got chilly with normal chips , no rice! ) rectified eventually, staff very apologetic but meal spoilt. Paid £129 for the privilege & offered 2000 ihg points for my troubles. Declined offer as thought it was an insult. I will avoid this Hotel when visiting the area in the future! Collapse
