Stayed here for one Saturday night in December as we were going to a concert. The lady on reception greeted us warmly and couldn’t have been more helpful. We were concerned getting to the arena would be difficult, but with the metro just across the road it was just two stops away from Victoria station. The added bonus of free car parking at the hotel, meant we could park up and leave the car, with no concerns of meters or tickets. The room was fine, all as expected and no complaints. The bar area was pleasant for a late drink and breakfast the following morning was good. Would definitely stay again! Collapse

First time visit to this hotel and stayed one night as we where going to a concert. 8 min car ride into the center and about 205 min walk, or you can get the tram which is 5 min walk away. Bus stops also right at the side of the hotel. Big carpark and if you park at the side of the hotel and book the ground floor you can see you car from your window. (we stayed in room 005). Check in staff was really nice and no problems, very quick and efficient. Room was nice and we had a good nights sleep, no noise, Breakfast staff were very polite and informative, explained how it all worked. The breakfast was very nice. Lots of choice and nice coffee. I would stay here again. Collapse

First impressions from the outside are of a hotel that has been neglected. Things just don't look good. Inside is not much better - apparently the carpets were being replaced which would explain the concrete floors in the corridors but which did not explain poor standards of housekeeping nor myself and a colleague both being given rooms intended for disabled clients. What works for a customer in a wheelchair does not work for able bodied customers. The bar come breakfast room lacks any character and only the friendly staff save the day. Location is handy for the Etihad but if this is what Holiday Inns have become then find something better. Collapse

Believe the reviews, this place is just a bit....odd. Check in - the young chap on reception quite literally had zero personality, I didn’t want a chat, just some acknowledgement - but no, this was very cold and automated. Customer facing people need a bit of personality - it makes a big difference especially when you are the first person the customer sees. First room smelled bad, I got a room move. Next room smelled odd, I think housekeeping use a standard air freshener - might be worth either not using it or upgrading it.....opened window, problem solved. Toilet had faulty valve, which meant it dripped and every 20 mins filled the cistern (under pressure). The air con was on, but didn’t seem to cool, just recirculate the air.....wouldn’t visit in summer....... The corridor floor was “wavey” which was strange - almost like they had experienced a huge leak and the floor was swollen. Same corridor had ceiling tiles which had been pushed to one side and not replaced - All just a little odd. Bar/restaurant was good - nice setting, expected food quality, nice staff. The bed was poor (spring madness, where did they get them) - and this is where I wonder what is better, the express or full holiday inn? The previous night I was in an Express and I couldn’t fault it, tonight I pay more for a “full” holiday inn and find many faults, plus the bed and pillows were better at the Express. So, I don’t get what I am paying extra for?? Time for an overhaul on Holiday Inn I think. If I had brought the wife and kids for a treat weekend, rather than business week, I would have been mighty miffed! Collapse

Stayed for 2 nights while watching cycling at the velodrome. Velodrome is actually about 25 mins walk away from this hotel and we did walk on the first day. Second day however we discovered the Manchester Metro system, picked up a tram at Central Park (about 10mins from the Holiday Inn), £10 for 2 daily passes and travelled all around Manchester on these and then out to Velopark on the evening which is about 5 Mins away from The velodrome itself. metro system is a steal at £5 each for a day pass, so convenient and very punctual. Free parking at the hotel and really well situated. Clean, tidy and very receptive staff. Our rom we were first allocated had in fact not been serviced when we opened the door, so after going straight back down to reception we were given an upgrade (free) to an Executive Room on the same floor. Light, spacious, and everything we needed. Collapse
