Having an early flight from Luton decided to book a nearby hotel the night before. Given the choice of hotels in the area i thought the holiday inn would be a safe bet - but i was wrong. The room was very basic and not welcoming. On arrival as i was travelling alone i ordered room service after being on the phone for 10mins trying to get through. Food took 40-50mins and was very disappointing. Small portion for the price, dried out and luke warm. As it was late I just settled with it. My disappointment did not end there. Had a shower which as the drain seem to be blocked the entire bathroom floor was flooded. Noticed the floor was a little wet on arrival so suspect this happened before. Overall experience was pretty poor and even the staff were not the friendliest. Only positive was that the room was very clean. Very disappointed and i will not be staying here again, very poor value for money. Collapse

Checking in, 20 minutes, one trainee member of staff doing her absolute best to try and maintain customer service. A queue of customers stretching across to the bar and she had to telephone the bar to ask for help ! A colleague turned up, issued a whole load of registration cards to everyone in the queue and then disappeared .... Actually compounding the problem ! Cost - £195 per night !!!! The staff were actually marvellous, polite and helpful but under huge pressure. Where was the 'manager' ? Collapse

Room and facilities were very good. Breakfast was up to the usual good standard for Holiday Inn. Evening meal, apart from Starter was appalling; badly cooked and presented, insufficient hot plates, desserts were poor with one popular item running out with nothing offered in place. The menu was specific for our group, and this is no excuse for very poor standard of evening meal. Collapse

3 stars for the poor staff here that are run ragged! They deserve 5 but nothing else does hence only 3. Room - small but ok for one night. Small double bed, thought everywhere had king size as standard now?? Tea and coffee facilities but not much on offer, just pg tips and Nescafé no biscuits no green tea no decaf, although we did get decaf when we asked at reception. Iron and board and hairdryer in room= great! Bathroom- although modern was well worn. Restaurant - 2 or 3 staff doing everything including bar, they were all run ragged. There was a coach party in but reception thought 7.30 so we booked dinner for 7 but they wee in at 6.30, so you can imagine how busy with so few staff. Even saw the chef clearing tables at one point! If it wasn't for the staff here I'd be furious. Arianna was amazing, literally running everywhere. Great customer service from her and the lady on the bar and reception. Unless there were staff off sick, which I suspect wasn't the case, then poor management and penny pinching from Holiday Inn. Food from restaurant was ok but hugely over priced, £12/13 for burgers and the beef one had only a bit of salad on it, no cheese etc and then just very skinny chips, nothing else, poor:( We booked through holiday extras so paid about £120 with parking. The night rate advertised in reception was £195 I think! Overall ok but don't eat here unless you have to, oh and appalling that staff don't get their own tips :( All quite young staff and thrown in with little training to manage a hotel and restaurant = really poor Collapse

I booked this hotel through Holiday Extras, it was a good price and seemed quite close to the airport. At first glance it was quite nice, the room was clean but maybe a little maintenance as it was a little shabby in the bathroom, the door didn't really shut properly and the tap leaked other than than that it perfectly comfortable for the one night. It is quite obviously that this is a business hotel, the bar is open and area but has no atmosphere, it was quite expensive on the bar but did sort of expect this (more expensive than drinking in the west end), the one confusing thing is that they have a bar menu and a restaurant, we didn't really see much on the bar menu and thought we would wait for the restaurant was open to see what they had on offer as it stated that they had a comprehensive menu, we sat down and it was exactly the same menu as the bar ! I cannot be complementary about the meal at all, it was overpriced and quite bad, we had soup and chicken wings as starters, the chicken wings although quite well done and on slightly burnt side was nice although partners soup was cold and had to be sent back to the kitchen, it was quite obviously microwaved as it came back piping hot with a very hot piece of bread that was on the plate. I decided to have the pie and husband the burger, first of all they tried to give us another diners dinner twice and seemed to make me think I was mistaken, finally the correct meals came out and have to say they weren't that nice. I had the Steak and Ale pie with champ, peas and gravy, champ was pretty awful with completely raw spring onions in in, it was just about what and clearly microwaved on the plate and it was hard around the edges, pie wasn't bad. My husband had the burger which was ok, considering the price that they wanted for below average bar food I can understand why people were sitting outside eating take away food that they had rung for and had delivered. On the plus side, the breakfast was nice the next morning and had all the usual things and also paper cups so we took a nice cup of coffee back to our room. In conclusion I am happy as I didn't pay the price for the room that was advertised in reception (£255 per night) and the room was ok, they need to have a serious look at the food though, it was terrible for the money that they are asking for it and not good valued and was only just edible and nowhere nearby to buy food. We ended up booking a cab to the airport as it was pouring down when we left, the reception arranged for this nice and promptly, check in and check out was easy and the man at the reception very helpful. Please be aware that cab drivers add on the £3 drop off fee onto the fare due to charges from Luton Airport. Collapse
