The hotel is very modern and is ok for staying one night. The breakfast is normal american type with cereal, jam, scrambled egg, bacon and sausage. I missed cheese , salami or ham as an alternative to jam. The bathroom was freezing cold in the morning due to missing a heating system. When we arrived the lift was not in order and it would take an hour to fix it. Since we were going to a wedding, we could not wait. We got a room on the 6th floor. The reception ist never asked if we would need help to carry our luggage upstairs!! After asking for a porter, a man came in and said he would do it for us Collapse

We had three rooms here - two twins, one double. I will focus on the double which is the one I used. My initial impression was that of a great HIX property - good size room, good size flat screen TV plus excellent bathroom with large walk-in shower cubicle. I was disappointed with the bed - it's not one of the best I've experienced at an HIX property - I didn't sleep particularly well and ended up with backache for a couple of days, which I can only attribute to the bed. Water pressure in the shower was really good, water temperature also good (got a nice hot shower!). Breakfast ... given that breakfast is always included in the rate at HIX it seems wrong to criticise too much, but I would suggest reviewing the coffee machine (weak and insipid), reviewing the quality of the croissants and getting kitchen staff to cook the bacon a little more (what I did see looked very pale and uninviting). Sausages weren't bad quality and a good range of cereals etc. A word of warning - one of the twin rooms (210 I believe) suffered considerably due to noise from the nightclub next door to the hotel - both on a Friday night and a Saturday night - request a quiet room! As covered in other posts - the car park is small and usually full. Parking is available in the multi-storey car park next to the hotel but you need to remember to take your token disc to the hotel where they will change it for a prepaid token (otherwise I believe it may cost up to £20 for overnight parking!) I stayed at this hotel for 1 night as I was seeing a band at Warehouse 23 which is only a 10 min walk away. I was greeted on arrival by some of the most friendliest staff I've ever spoken to. As I am an IHG rewards club member I was given a welcome letter and also 2 club chocolate biscuits. Check in was very quick and included a complimentary newspaper and the wifi code and I made my way to my room on the 4th floor. My room was lovely and clean and very spacious with a Queen size bed, a sofa bed, large flat screen tv with all the freeview channels, a desk, chair, tea and coffee making facilities and soap/shower gel in both the bathroom and the shower. The bathroom also had a blue spotlight which was quite dim and could be left on as a night light. The bed was very comfortable with both soft and firm pillows (4 in total). The room was very quiet and had heavy duty curtains which blacked out all the light from outside. Breakfast is included and you help yourself. There is a choice of about 4 cereals plus porridge followed by scrambled egg, bacon, sausages and beans. Then if you wish you can have fresh fruit and yogurt, toast with either jam, marmalade, nutella, honey or marmite, mini double chocolate chip or blueberry muffins or croissants. Tea, fruit tea, earl grey tea, coffee, water, orange juice and apple juice are also available. You are right in the centre of town here but the noise in the room is minimal. You are 10 mins walk from the shops, the ridings shopping centre and the wetherspoons pub and about 15 mins walk from Trinity Walk shopping centre. I will definitely be booking this hotel again for my next stay in Wakefield. Collapse

Two-night stay meeting friends to attend a Wedding. For a short stay this hotel is ideally located just 5 mins into town. There are free parking spaces for a few cars, rooms clean and comfortable with all basic facilities. We thought the breakfast choice is a little lacking compared to other budget hotels but overall was OK. Staff are all very friendly and helpful although presentation is sometimes a little poor. One Receptionist had stains all down the front of her shirt (granted they looked recent) but this is not the presentation you expect at the front desk. This was our first experience of Holiday Inn for many years and overall impressed and will consider staying at Holiday Inns again. Collapse

No respect for the disabled here. As an IHG Spire Elite, I’ve enjoyed many International trips to Europe in IHG hotels. This was my first trip bringing my elderly and disabled parents to Europe. It was also their first trip to Europe. I cannot Express how disappointing it was for me to talk about this great country that our ancestors came from, just to be embarrassed and corrected by this hotel’s staff. When we arrived, the one and only disable car spot was taken by a customer of the hotel whom was not disabled and had no “blue badge”. We had to wait for the hotel to find the customer and ask them to move their car. The second night returning from dinner was the same. A BMW with no disabled tag was parked in the disabled spot, but this time parked to one side, leaving just enough room for our car to fit, but not enough room for the doors to open property. When complaining to the front desk, the woman clerk admitted she had instructed a customer to park there. Does a clerk have that authority? I think not. I was upset, but my disabled parents did not want me to make scene. I left my dissatisfaction with the front desk and now here on Trip Advisor. I should call the police, but they would only ticket the customer that the front desk instructed to park there. Simply disappointed in this IHG hotel. I’ll be following up with IHG customer service.
