I stayed here through work and this was the only hotel available out of the holiday inns and premier inns in the area! Not really somewhere I'd recommend if you're on a business trip but ideal if you're only going to be using the room to sleep in after a night out on the town. The staff were all very friendly. The room was in need of some tlc there was a cigarette burn in the sofa provided in the room and there was black marks on the wall I'm not sure how they got there! The menu was basic, although you can use the Royal Victoria holiday inn a 20 or so meter walk away from the hotel! Overall an average stay more suited to people using the hotel for a night on the town Collapse

One night stay on a business trip. Reception courteous and efficient. Room better than I would have expected rom a £54 deal. Great bed, shower and amenities. All was looking good ..... until I decided that wandering out for a meal was too much of a faff after a busy day. So, I decided to try the (very) limited food offering in the bar/reception/lounge area. The menu was expectedly short on content but, with mains at £10 - £12, not expensive. A glance at the table next to me was enough to make me dismiss the gammon steak ... thin, curled up and accompanied with poor quality fries. I opted for the 'spicy' dish which by any other name was a chicken curry. Eventually it appeared on a wooden serving plate. The small portion of rice was in a seperate bowl with the chicken (?) in a small metal bowl. On top there was a hard mini pitta bread. Poking into the bowl, I found 4 pieces of cubed chicken, about 1 inch accross. The sauce itself had an appearance and consistency which would not be unfamiliar to any nurse experienced in dealing with dysentery. I immediately rejected this insult and no charge was made to the bill. On checking out, I formally complained and, as my details and narrative had been meticulously recorded, I expected some form of apology/explanation to appear in my inbox. After 9 days ... nothing. Can't understand why they risk all of their goodwill through the adoption of penny-pinching food offerings. Either dont bother ... or charge a bit more to provide something edible. Wont be rushing back. Collapse

Had room on 3rd floor, very quiet, so great for me...sadly only a shower, no bath. Beds were very comfortable. Tea, coffee, milk provided in the room. Breakfast was generally good. Hot food included bacon, sausages, beans, scrambled egg. There were also croissants, cereals, fruit and yoghurts. Only downside was the juice. Very strong and tasted of chemicals! Staff were all pleasant. All in all a good, no frills hotel, that is clean, quiet offering easy access to the City. Collapse

My husband and I had a night away and chose the holiday inn express due to both location and price. We found it to be exactly what we needed for our stay, good location, clean, helpful, nice food. We did however have a disturbed night due to the couple in the room next door arguing resulting in the police being called. The hotel staff could not have been more apologetic and helpful about the situation which to be fair was no fault of their own. I would definitely recommend for this reason alone. Collapse

We were originally goign to arrive at the hotel around 7pm after visiting York on our vacation. However, our rental car broke down. It was a multi-hour ordeal. We wound up skipping Yok and did not arrive at the hotel until around 10pm. We were exhausted. The front desk clerk was very gracious. He have us free drink vouchers. That is exactly waht we needed to relax before turning in for the night. The bartender was also. Our room was very nice, and larger than normal for Europe, it was about the size of a US hotel room. As an added bonus I could see the Supertram line from our room (I'm a big rail fan). Breakfast was very busy, but the selections were very nice. I took a walk from the hotel into downtown, not a bad walk at all (plus photographing the Trams). Overall a great overnight stay, especially for the price! Collapse
