Let's start with the positive things. The rooms are clean and the beds comfortable. Safe deposit box, fridge and a microwave oven is available in the room. Would I rate only the rooms I would probably give it a solid 4 star rating. However... The complimentary breakfast is the typical HIEX breakfast, which would be totally fine. But during our whole 3 day stay they did not manage to repair or replace the broken pancake machine! The one day they had bacon it was completely overcooked. In fact it was so crisp that it disintegrated into pieces when touched. That is definetely below the ususal HIEX standard. The free shuttle service to Universal is a nice service, but the organization and the drivers are horrible. The shuttle makes stops at 2 other hotels. On the first day there were too many passengers despite the fact that you need to register for the shuttle. So they should know how many people to expect. On the second day the return shuttle was not there when we arrived 5 minutes prior to the scheduled time. After 10 minutes we called the hotel and were ensured the shuttle would arrive within the next 5 minutes. No idea what went wrong there, especially as none of the other guests that should have been on that shuttle were around. Did I mention the horrible drivers? On the phone while driving and not using the seatbelt... And from their mood I can only guess that they hate their job. Together with the age and condition of the vehicles (tire pressure warning light on, engine warning light on) I did not feel completely safe. When we arrived on the first day we were almost immediately approached by some guy in a hotel uniform who asked us if we need tickets to one of the theme parks. He mentioned he would have a special price. In general it is nice to be able to buy those tickets in the hotel and I figured he would just have the same price as when buying online (which at least for Universal is less than what you pay at the entrance). Well his price was even lower, but right before selling us the tickets he mentioned we would need to watch a 90min presentation about "his" resort. Seriously?!? I felt like I was talking to some Tuk-Tuk driver in Thailand trying to drive me to some tailor's shop for a lower transportation price.... And every evening when we returned we found a new advertisement for some pizza delivery service that someone had slipped under the door. Like I am not getting enough spam at home already... Why do they even allow someone to distribute that stuff inside the hotel? So concluding this rather long review I can recommend the hotel for the rooms. But definetely not for its staff. The service is way below what I am used to from HIEX. Collapse
Good basis, spoiled by screwing up all the details

The rooms are good and the hotel is clean, there also is a shuttle bus to universal studios. Unfortunately, that's where the good things about this hotel end. In the lobby, there is a guy talking to everyone who checks in, saying that he can sell tickets for the parks for a discount. When you ask a bit further he says how much cheaper his tickets are than getting them directly at the gate, not mentioning that they are much cheaper if you buy them online compared to buying them at the gate. His price is even cheaper though, but you must watch a 90 minute presentation of his resort. He also has his own counter in the lobby and is wearing a hotel employee uniform, so this is not only tolerated, but organzied by the hotel. All this stuff really reminds me of the middle east, where they promise you something at first and then drag you into a carpet store. We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights, when we arrived back from the parks, on both days we found advertisements of some pizza shop were shoved below the door into our room. I don't want to find spam in my hotel room, and since it happened twice, from different pizza restaurants no less, i think this was done with the hotels consent, if not even organized by the hotel. The breakfast is the usual Holiday Inn Express fare, but on the first morning, the pancake machine was out of order, and on the other 2 days it was missing completely. And then there is the shuttle bus... While it's great that there is a shuttle bus, everything about it, other than its existence, was bad. We had to enter a list when we wanted to use the shuttle bus and when we wanted to return (either 17:10 or 19:10). The drivers were unfriendly, half of the air conditioning ducts were missing, the drivers didn't seem to know how many people to pick up (we picked up people from 2 other hotels, and once we went to a hotel where nobody had to be picked up), and the bus was showing tyre pressure and engine errors. In addition to all that, the driver once was even on the phone while driving. And to top it off, the shuttle bus forgot to pick us up on the second day to get us back to the hotel. We arrived at the spot by 19:05, the bus should have picked us up at 19:10. But the bus was nowhere to be seen, nor were the people who should have been on the bus with us. After we called the hotel after 19:15 they sent the shuttle bus again to pick us up, and there was nobody else in there. I don't know what really happened, but it looks like the shuttle bus left early without us. Just as to add some insult to injury, on the side of the bus there is written "The best transportation"... TL;DR: good rooms, horrible shuttle bus and scams organized by the hotel. Collapse
