I stayed here for a weekend on a quick trip to NYC for the heck of it. I would absolutely stay here again. The room was comfortable and clean, the breakfast was delicious and there were several options, and best of all it was in the perfect location. Walking distance to so many awesome places. My one and only negative point would be that the breakfast got pretty crowded--although, of course, this was on a weekend and I'm sure during the busiest times. Earlier in the morning or during the week would probably be less busy. Overall I would absolutely stay here again. Collapse

It's a pretty basic hotel.. not the quietest rooms or hallways. But it's a good value for your dollar. And I give them points because my A/C was not working when I checked in and they sent a service man up and he fixed it within an hour..(In my experience some of these smaller hotels don't have 24hr maintenance..) Free breakfast and coffee (and WiFi) is nice, too. This is a good place to stay if you're trying to save money. I do think the neighborhood is a little edgy.. not really unsafe, but definitely not the nicest part of town. I would stay here again, though. Quick walk to Chelsea. Collapse
Don't park here - otherwise good stay

We stayed at the beginning of April 2017 at this property. It was our second stay here in the last two years. We get a preferential rate. Overall we find the staff to be very friendly/helpful (with one exception). We find it to be clean and pretty quiet (my husband heard people in the hall one night, but over all it’s not noisier than any other downtown hotel). The water out of the bathroom tap is very drinkable – there is no odd taste to it. It is super close to many things including MSG. I also liked that there was fresh water in the lobby so we could fill glasses and our water bottles (the mint/strawberry was a nice touch). WATCH OUT! Valet parking is ridiculous. Unlike the other three parking lots we have used in NYC (including valet at an upscale hotel in midtown) we were charged a $10 premium for our small SUV. I questioned this and was told by the front desk staff person that she didn’t make the rules. The parking lots across the street and beside the property are closed (buildings are replacing them). We thought, based on the website, that it would be $55 for parking so we thought we’d splurge. Traffic was pretty chaotic so we were relieved to drop off the car. It was then that we learned that our Equinox is, according to this location only, an over size vehicle. I don’t remember being told that the $65 charge for parking was exclusive of taxes (again this was not our experience in three other lots in NYC) nor were we told that the taxes were almost 18%! So each period of parking was just under $77. We would never have done this – it was almost double what we paid the three days previous in mid-town Manhattan. Also, there are no in/out privileges (we were informed of this upon check-in – I have no problem with this but wanted to be clear about the entire experience). And it is about 30-45 minute wait for your car to be brought to the front door. The valet who brought the car was very nice and helped us to carry our bags and load them into the car. To add salt to the wound - I wrote the hotel to express my dismay at this ridiculousness – the email I got back was, without a doubt, the worst non-apology I have ever received. I believe it is written by the person who “doesn’t make the rules” (so why is she responding to my question regarding said rules if she couldn’t explain them?). First, my name was wrong (I told them twice in the email that I do not share the same last name as my husband – it’s 2017 – it’s not that uncommon). Second, it was I’m sorry but you said you’d pay so tough (I will cut and paste the actual email below). I work in communications this is not acceptable at all – I wasn’t asking for a refund – I get that we agreed, but, I am ticked, and I was giving feedback so that the next customers don’t feel so duped. A hollow apology is way worse than no apology at all – I would have said something like - "unfortunately parking rates in NYC are higher than most cities - taxes are 18 percent because they include... This is the fee charged by our valet service." Other items of note: - Long waits for the elevator during peak periods; granted we were there during Spring break for high schools in parts of the US and the place was packed with groups of students but we waited over 30 minutes to get an elevator that could take us and our luggage (we actually went separately to increase our chances and tried going up to go down). - The breakfast that is included is pretty standard – sausage patties, scrambled “eggs”, a variety of milk, cereals, yoghurt, breads, spreads, sweet things, make-your-own waffles, apples, banana, juice and coffee. I didn’t see a microwave if you wanted to heat something. It is, however, a small area for eating and preparing food – it gets noisey and squishy, but you can take the food back to your room. Brooklyn bagel company is a short walk away as are a variety of delis, etc if you want a different breakfast. - We had a whirlpool tub room – this seems to make the actual bedroom portion of the room quite small. The wall into the bathroom is a sliding glass door (glazed) but there is little light blocking properties and virtually no “sound proofing”. We would definitely stay here again but we are on notice not to use the valet and to take the time to read every little bit of fine print. Here’s the non-apology email that I got: We are writing to you in regards to the concern with your recent stay involving valet services. First, I would like to apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you, our guests experience is very important to us. Our valet service charges $65 plus tax for any vehicle larger than a sedan (ex. SUV, Minivan, Pick Ups, etc). The fees are stated in the valet agreement you signed when checking in. Valet is optional, you may also choose to park on own if you so choose. We definitely value your business and your opinion, however because you agreed to the terms upon arrival the charges will remain. Collapse

I stayed here for a couple of nights recently and while the room was comfortable and a decent size for Manhattan, the construction in the lobby is kind of annoying. When I checked in, the Key Card device was down and the could not issue a key, so they had a staff member meet me at the room and open the door for me. The device was down for a full day, so whenever I left my room, I had to have somebody at the front desk get a staff member to let me back in On Sunday morning, at checkout, there was no front desk staff to be seen for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile there's a line of people waiting to check out. None of the staff that were working the breakfast area did or say anything to anyone in line either. Big miss here Hopefully when the construction is over they can work out these issues Collapse

Needed a reasonably-priced, centrally-located place to stay for three people and was VERY happy with this choice. Excellent double room: adequate space, scrupulously clean and modern with the most comfortable mattresses! Free breakfast was top-notch with lots of fresh and delicious choices but get there early if you want a place to sit. Staff were all very helpful and engaged. Lovely outdoor front courtyard tables/chairs for relaxing. We were a parent w/two teens, stayed three nights in July 2016 and were so pleased that I won't bother to look elsewhere next time we visit NYC! Collapse
