The Holiday Inn Brand is becoming my favorite hotel chain. Yea I could waste your time complaining about the small stuff, but we as customers forget that we are dealing with people who deal with HUNDREDS of customers on a daily basis. Overall I was pleased with my stay here. The hotel is in a GREAT location. The front desk staff was pleasant and accommodating. I interacted with the housekeeping staff and they were really nice. I can tell those women work really hard. Overall a great stay and will be back again! Collapse

I don't like leaving negative reviews - this isn't a hobby or enjoyment for me, but I would be remiss to not talk about my experience with this hotel. Let me clarify - no one expects 5 star service at a Holiday Inn, but you do expect for there to be an overall pleasant experience. There's a continuity of service you expect with these big name hotels and that's why I was so surprised by our experience. Some backstory: my friends and I had booked rooms for my bachelorette weekend. We originally booked at The Hotel Modern, however, they were undergoing renovations and advised we reach out to Holiday Inn Express. Because it was only a week or so before our trip, we had to call to make the reservations. I believe we spoke with a person by the name of John, who confirmed our reservations via voicemail (he did not send a follow up email) and that my friend's card had been placed on file to hold the two rooms we reserved. Onto what happened: The first wave of girls arrived at the hotel around 3:30 on Friday, October 20. We got into our room, no problem, and because we had to produce a card at that time for incidentals, my friend put her card down on the room. I confirmed with the concierge that the next wave of girls would be able to get into their room and she said it wouldn't be a problem. We go out to explore and around 10 PM that night, the next wave of girls arrive with the news that their room had been canceled. They were told that because they had not checked-in by 6 PM, the room had been given away. So then I get to the hotel with the rest of our group and we talk with the manager that night - Curtis D. Curtis D. first tries to tell us that there wasn't a card on file to reserve the rooms. But we have receipts so he backs down from that explanation. Then he said we must have reserved the room with CASH and if you don't check in by 6 PM with a cash reservation, then the room gets released. Again, receipts, so that explanation didn't fly. Then he said the card must have been declined - but if that was the case, why wasn't that his first excuse? There was a lot of back and forth and I was getting pretty angry. Curtis D. wasn't trying to soothe the situation or give us other options - didn't offer to send up a rollaway bed or check to see if we could reserve a room the next night. He wasn't listening to reason, he wasn't explaining why the hotel wouldn't call us before releasing the room - he just kept repeating that it was the hotel's policy. Eventually, he said he would see if he could find another available room and asked us to give him an hour or so to look. At this point it's about 10:40 so we agree and head up to our room to detox. The last member of our party arrived at the hotel around 11:20 or so. She works in the hotel business - sells blocks of rooms to large corporate clients. We explain the situation to her and she's shocked - doesn't understand why we weren't called, doesn't understand the policy, and thinks that someone made a mistake in checking us in and are just trying to cover their mistakes. 11:40 rolls around so we mosey downstairs. Curtis D. has another room for us and it's getting cleaned. He says he'll bring the key up to our current room in about 10 minutes. 12:45 rolls around and we call the front desk because a key has still not arrived. We call twice with no answer. So me and my hotel friend go downstairs to see what the issue is. The front desk concierge is on the phone with a friend, but thankfully she's kind enough to make time for us. We ask for Curtis D. and the concierge explains that his shift is over and he has left for the night. We. Are. Incredulous. This man has left this hotel without making sure this issue was taken care of. As the front desk manager, it was his job to see this situation through and he freaking left. The woman at the front desk calls the room that was opened for us and the staff is still cleaning it. She tells us the staff cleaning it isn't the normal staff that cleans rooms and to let us know if it's still dirty. At this point it's 1 AM and we just want to sleep. It's been a long day of work and travel and I am not going to trifle with this hotel anymore. We take the keys and the room as is and my friend says she is going to address the entire situation with the hotel the next day when Curtis D. comes back on shift. On the morning of Saturday, October 21st we go to the front desk. A new manager is on board and we explain the situation to her. She is mortified by what has happened and said she could get us the first night free for both rooms. We ask when Curtis D. will be back and she said his shift would start at 3 PM. At 4 PM my friend speaks with Curtis D. At first, he wasn't willing to take responsibility for what happened. "I'm sorry ma'am, but that's just our policy." She then asserted that either way, his job as a manager was to manage the situation and make sure that we were taken care of last night and that it was unacceptable for him to leave with everything still up in the air. Curtis D. finally relented. He said he would only give us one free night on the second room and he would comp our parking. And we finally relented. I could sit here and talk about the rooms - they were fine, but the doors don't close well. I could sit here and talk about the location - it's fine. I could sit here and talk about how scary the elevators were. But the thing that stood out was the atrocious service. Even with how everything was resolved, I just can't get past how bad the service was. We're reasonable people, we didn't go flying off the handles and our ire wasn't without cause. If it's true that this was all the result of a policy by Holiday Inn then there was no way we would have known it before we arrived because the confirmation email was never sent. And if it's true this policy actually exists, then Holiday Inn, your policy is complete nonsense and trash. Any policy that has you releasing rooms without making a diligent effort to contact guests is nonsense and trash. But of course, if the goal was to alienate your guests and make sure they never do business with you again, then success, you reached your goal. Collapse

The hotel was in a convenient location to my business meeting and the French quarters. It was a good hotel overall. My only complaint is that upon entering my room there were dust balls next to the AC unit along with a random maintenance form. It appears as if the room hadn't been vacuumed. This was not enough for me to give a bad review, and I would definitely stay here again if the price is right. Collapse
