I stayed at the hotel on a business trip to Knowsley so booked anything in the area. Which was my mistake as I assumed the standards for holiday inn would be consistent. The room was basic as you would expect but there was a double mattress in my room just laid on the floor with no logic, I still had a bed so it did not impact me but it was strange to use a room as a store room. The bedding had a cigarette burn and I had a none smoking room. My first night the restaurant was closed so no food just a vending machine. However, the staff were excellent, all nice and doing there best under the circumstances. I definitely would not stay again Collapse
A horrible experience

We are on a family trip to Merseyside and have stayed in Stafford M6 Travelodge, Premier Inn Tarbock and Premier Inn Liverpool city centre. We have had good or excellent experiences in all of these EXCEPT last night in the Holiday Inn Express, Knowsley. On the plus side the room was comfortable (to budget standard) and clean. The breakfast was mediocre but pleasant enough. The young lady who checked us in was very pleasant but there was a lack of information about where we could eat. We were told there would be no food available that night (Easter Saturday) but were given a couple of take away menus so we could order pizza etc if we wanted. Actually another guest told us about a pub which we could walk to called the Copper Pot a mile away. We actually decided to drive to a Chef and Brewer 5 miles away but on the way found a Hungry Horse about 2 miles up the road. Since this hotel mainly hosts families with young children going to the safari park this information would be really useful for Reception to know about and pass onto weekend guests. What really spoilt our experience was that a very large group of young lads carrying slabs of beer checked in and were spread throughout the hotel. We had some in the room next door and the room opposite. The walls are presumably very thin as we had an awful nights sleep. From 2 to 4am the lads seemed to be banging doors and being loud in the corridor. At 4am we rang Reception. The man who answered should be given lessons in customer care. Rather than offer to ask the lads to keep the noise down, he said they had only just got in! This was NOT true. It may be that SOME had only just got in but the ones in our corridor had been in from 2am! My husband said we had been disturbed since 2am and so he said "Well you should have rung before then". Rude and again hardly helping us out. Finally he came up and nicely asked the lads to be quiet which they did. So actually had the Receptionist just apologised when we rang him and come straight up the situation would have been resolved much more pleasantly. In the morning (Sunday 16th April) we were checked out by a male Receptionist. He checked the bill and said "You're all sorted". He did not ask if we had had a good stay. I paused and then as we turned to go I said "You're not going to ask if we had a good stay then". I'm sure I sounded fed up but it did NOT deserve the response I got. He was incredibly rude and aggressive and then said he HAD been going to ask which really was not true. I had seen him deal with a customer the day before and sadly he was rude and aggressive with her too. My advice is to drive a few miles away and stay at the Premier Inn Tarbock. Lovely receptionist and a Brewers Fayre next door. Collapse

We stayed as a family of 4 over Easter and it served as a cheap base to explore Liverpool and Merseyside. Good Points: - Cheap - Good Breakfast (as you'd expect from HI:E hotels) - Friendly Staff - Free Fast Wi-Fi - Comfortable bed and clean Bad Points - the Sofa-Bed was very uncomfortable for the children. - internal walls a little thin - no air-con in rooms - certain areas could do with redecoration Collapse

Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable and it had all the basic facilities required for a nights stay, breakfast was self service of both hot and cold food, with a reasonable selection cereals, cooked, pastries, etc.

Standard Holiday Inn but one of the more dated sites. Room was large enough but there were hairs not belonging to us all over the bathroom floor when we checked in. Stayed with a family member so had a twin room - both beds were on wheels so if you sat on the bed and leant against the wall you shot across the room. We had room 108 which was next to a door in the corridor which was banged all night. The breakfast was foul - powdered scrambled egg and soggy toast - there's a big sign up saying not to put toast through twice or it'll set the fire alarms off. Perhaps if they invested in a toaster which worked, you wouldn't need to... Staff barely said two words and I didn't see any of them smile whilst we were there. 'Checking out? OK' were all they said to me upon checkout, not even a 'goodbye' or 'was everything ok?' Waiting to check that the £20 they take from your card (very unusual - never had that in any other hotel, especially a H.I) goes back on. Collapse
