I stayed here for two nights while on business in Hoylake. Check in was quick and painless and my room was clean and equipped with the standard Holiday Inn Express facilities. I was disappointed that my shower wouldn't drain meaning I almost flooded the bathroom when taking a short shower in the morning. It probably took about twenty minutes to drain. When I went to the desk to report the problem I stood in front of two members of staff for at least a minute as they discussed something on the computer. I wasn't even acknowledged so left swiftly and accepted that my note for housekeeping would have to suffice on reporting the issue. A common courtesy to acknowledge and say they'd be with me soon would have been polite. Breakfast was OK, standard affair for a holiday inn and at the end of the day it was free. If I'm back in the area I'd probably give them the benefit of the doubt and stay here again hoping for a better experience. Car parking was on site and free but seemed to fill up quite quickly so bear that in mind. Collapse

Situated between the Royal Liverpool Golf course and the beach the hotel itself is all what you’d expect from a Holiday Inn Express in that it does all the basics very well and the staff are very helpful and friendly. However, there has recently been a marked change for the better in that it is now more than a place to simply spend a night. The Kings Gap Restaurant attached to the hotel previously hasn’t looked very inviting but not now. It is welcoming, bright and cheerful, and the sensibly priced menu (guests even receive a 20% discount ) should suit all tastes. The staff are also very pleasant, attentive but not intrusive. We began with Fried Goat’s cheese, my wife’s favourite starter, and the BBQ Pork ribs. Both were delicious and plentiful. We then had the Belly Pork, which only lacked some additional gravy, and the Lamb Shank which simply dropped from the bone. I’d recommend the Malbec if you fancy a glass of wine. There wasn’t much room left so we shared a Sticky Toffee pudding; well worth the extra calories! Given that Liverpool city centre is less than 30 mins away by train, I’d certainly recommend it as a base to explore Collapse

A lovely place in Liverpool on the Wirral. Great welcome from all the staff more than helpful and also make you feel very welcome on arrival. The rooms are lovely and clean and with this being a smaller hotel much quieter than bigger hotels. Clean bedding and towels. Plenty of room for a couple. I have stayed here twice now and would definitely recommend. The breakfast is self service and more than adiquite whether you want something small or a full breakfast. Plenty to do in the area. Thinking about returning next year. Collapse

Great welcome, lovely decor, spotlessly clean room, comfortable bed & pillows, great bathroom. We were impressed with the way the staff dealt with the problem of no bed in the room for our 8 year old granddaughter. The booking was made through Booking.com and there appears to be a problem with communication between the booking site and the hotel as to what type of room was booked. We turned up in the evening having only 30 minutes to get changed and leave for a party. There was no bed for our 8 year old and the hotel was full. The manager sorted a bed for us whilst we were out at the party. It wasn’t ideal but the staff made the best of a difficult situation with politeness & efficiency. We received a discount for the room the next day. Breakfast was plentiful and good Collapse
Decent hotel but service seriously lacking in the Kings Gap

I've stayed at this hotel probably 5 or 6 times a year for around 5 years now and have seen all the good and bad they do, from Frankies New York diner through to it's current guise as The Kings Gap. The hotel itself is clean and the staff are always great, breakfast is pretty basic but it does fine for what it is. I've had mixed experiences in the restaurant though. As a Marcos the service was always just ok, never great and never poor, the food similar however since being rebranded as The Kings Gap I feel the menu has gone down hill and the service has followed it. No restaurant should ever let someone eat a main course without checking on how it was and add to that don't have someone sitting with an empty glass for around 10 minutes. I'd have flagged a server down had one came anywhere near me in that time. I was really disappointed as this is a hotel i've always drifted to when in the area, I will probably stay again as it suits my travel plans occasionally but won't eat in the restaurant again. Shame really. Collapse
