Checked in last night after a long flight and had a very long wait for the taxi @ the airport as the Q was huge. Arrived at the hotel absolutely starving - All restaurants were shut & it was looking like I was going to bed with an empty stomach :-( However, the receptionist suggested that I call Pizza Hut - But when I did the man on the other end of the phone could not understand a word I was saying - So I ran back to reception where the lovely receptionist saved the day !! She did all the translation for me and was extremely helpful !! Thanks sooooo much - That's great customer service :-) Collapse

The room was lovely, quiet, clean, I stayed for 3 nights and my bed was always made with fresh towels etc. My four year old said he wanted to stay there forever! :) However, Ines Pascoa, the duty manager of the day I checked in, was extremely condescending, rude, ignorant, and these are just the few words I can describe her attitude. The reason I did not respond to her ignorance was because my 4 year old was with me, otherwise I would have given her a good word or two. I spent the weekend feeling really angry because of her! I thought customer service was important especially from a 'duty manager' but it is evident that it is not a priority at the holiday inn alfragide. I came on holiday from London, I Booked this hotel because it was close to my aunts house who lives in 'Almeida Garette' we had 10 members of the family staying over that night and I was not able to handle so much people as I was knackered and needed the space for me and my child so I was so happy when I got in to the Hotel but unfortunately it was ruined by someones poor people skills. We stayed at Holiday Inn Express Lisbon Alfragide for four nights at the end of May, spending our holiday in order to be acquainted with the larger area of Lisbon and surroundings. The location of the hotel is excellent. It is not in the center of Lisbon, where you have to pay a lot for parking and higher hotel rates. It is near all major motorways of Lisbon area, with easy access, and you can reach almost everywhere. Street parking is available just in front of the hotel. There is also an indoor paying parking of the hotel but we did not use it. If you want to go downtown, there is a bus stop in front of the entrance. The hotel is a new modern building. Our room on the last (fifth) floor, although not very large, was equipped with everything we could need. We slept very well, no noise or disturbance from the other rooms. The bathroom was in excellent state, the shower spacious and pleasant. The cleanliness of the room was perfect. No problem with the service. The reception polite and helpful, gave us much information about the city. I would like, however, to point out two issues : • The first is that continental buffet breakfast offered is basic. We did not expect of course something particularly special, given the class of the hotel, but there is some space for improvement. Some cakes or pastries, some cookies i.e. Not every morning “pasteis de nata”! And some more attention to the coffee. These machines are easy to use but the quality of coffee they prepare sometimes is bad ! • The second is that there is not nearby the hotel a restaurant or a place for a snack. In a walking distance of about 15 minutes there is a shopping center, where there are several options to eat something, but I do not know if in the evening, after the closing of stores, they remain still open. One evening we decided to have dinner at the hotel, but the selection was limited and the quality unfortunately was poor. So, we always had dinner somewhere else, riding by car. Despite the above disadvantages, our overall satisfaction was positive. We had a good time, and if we have been again in the future in Lisbon, we’ll stay there again. Collapse

We did want to stay closer to the old Alfama and Baixa areas of Lisbon but were very glad we didn't. This hotel is in a safe commercial area and caters mostly to business travelers. We were able to park for free on the street beside the hotel and the bus, which stops right in front of the lobby, takes you to and from a main tourist hub where you can hire hop on/off tours and taxis very easily, to get you the rest of the way into the historical center. There's also a great view of the city at this square if you walk up the gentle slope to the monument at the top. It would have been a nightmare driving in central Lisbon otherwise. The hotel is the usual reliable quality provided by the Holiday Inn Express chain and included a complete and tasty buffet breakfast, very clean and efficient rooms and very helpful staff who are well worth consulting. It was a comforting touch of home in a city, which though very interesting and well worth visiting, can be quite hectic and frustrating. Collapse
