He had a room overlooking a small brooke at the back of the hotel and were very pleased at how quiet it was. The general facilities and rooms are what you would expect from a Holiday Inn Express but with the added benefit of a room safe. Parking is very good and staff friendly. The breakfast was better than most offered by holiday inn express's and seemed to cope well during a busy period. One small negative point was that a number of the glasses and some plates still had lipstick and food debris on them, probablt due to the fact that it was busy on easter monday, but for this small lack of attention,I cannot give it 5/5. I would hope when we return, this will prove to be a one off. We also ate inside the hotel one night and again although it was a reduced menu, the mains were surprisingly good.I had the pate as a starter and to be honest this was not good value or well presented, but again being easter, i can forgive this due to reduced staffing. I was not expecting anything more than standard Holiday Inn Express standard however I was very surprised. All the usual IHG standards were maintained and the added bonus of some nice surroundings in the lounge area and a quality gym on site made this stay a very good experience. Bed was comfortable, Wi-Fi was good and a bath as well as a shower all helped elevate the standard . I also felt that the buffet breakfast was better than any Holiday Inn Express I have stopped at and better than most of the Holiday Inns. I will not hesitate to use this hotel again. Collapse

Prior to arrival I called the hotel and spoke with Janine who assured me that the hotel could provide me with dairy and gluten free options for breakfast, eg. Bread, spread and cereals. On arrival at hotel I reiterated my requirements were I was told they were on my file. DINNER The lady behind bar was helpful and supplied me with the allergen folder and engaged in conversation, she established the burger was fine, although the kitchen did seem to think the coleslaw was not suitable because it contained eggs. When it is milk products that are classed as dairy. I did review the allergy folder which was very interesting reading, it supplied the food costs and GP for most of the menu, although not sure it's what you want your customer to read. The meal ordered was good although I had asked for no bun and was served a gf bun. BREAKFAST on arrival to breakfast I notified the server of my dietary requirements she fetched GF bread and directed me to the communal toaster - I had to inform her that cannot use because of cross contamination. I requested it be cooked under a grill ( not sure if it was cooked on clean tray as not been feeling well since Friday). I requested DF spread, and the server brought me flora portions and told me they were margarine. I had to ask her to check as I am aware that flora do not currently provide DF portions, she returned to inform me that the flora was NOT DF as she originally claimed. Heather came and apologised and said they had tried to provide DF options but from my conversation with sever this was not apparent and if you had really tried then someone would have popped to Morrissons and purchased DF spread, instead of assuming the flora was DF. In addition to this there were no GF / DF options for cereal. Had I been informed correctly I would have gone to Morrissons myself and purchased products because I had flown I was not able to bring with me. Also there was no allergen information available for any of the breakfast items on show or within the allergen folder I was given the evening before. The hotel room and facilities and location was good Collapse

Of all the Holiday Inn Expresses we've stayed in, this one looked and felt the best; bright common spaces through the lobby and lounge, two working lifts, excellent rooms for what we paid with modern bathrooms and roomy, walk in showers. Yet all of this means nothing when staff can't get the basics right. We decided to have a late dinner in the hotel itself after struggling to get a table at the restaurant across the road. It was approx half eight by this point. The bar lady took our money but she warned it take a half hour for the food (which was fine) so we took our drinks to our table and waited, and waited. About 45 minutes later a waitress (looking a bit flustered and sheepish) came to apologise about the wait and offered a drink on the house as an gesture . What she neglected to mention was that they had forgotten about our order altogether and had only just realised. It was only when I asked how long we would have to wait that she explained another half hour as they'd have to start from the beginning. No thanks - we asked for a refund, which I thought they would bring to the table. No, I had to wait in the queue at the bar for this. They even had the cheek to refund the food money only despite the fact that the drinks we ordered were intended to accompany the meal they had forgot about. A thin and insincere apology was all we got. Still, a short trip to Macdonalds saw us gorge on a feast of fatty fantasticness and back again in the same time it would have taken for the 'chef' to get his head out of his other oven. Really poor service (or indeed none at all) in an otherwise perfectly lovely hotel. Collapse
