Excellent location, hotel very clean and room a good size with ample working space. Breakfast was fresh and plenty of food maintained on the buffet or continental selection. Parking at the connected shopping centre car park meant only a short walk to the reception directly from the car park. The hotel reception advised me to take a 5 day pass as it worked out cheaper than paying daily. Will definitely stay here again if I return to Hull for work or leisure. Collapse

As a frequent HIE user, this is a nice modern hotel, with free internet and decent rooms, some with great views of the Hull Skyline. My room was a decent size and comfortable, the bar area is nice with an out side balcony for the nice weather, breakfast was standard and decent enough. The location is great and there must be at least 10 or 15 places to eat and drink within a five minute walk. My only gripe is overnight parking at £7.50 is a bit steep, the hotel backs onto St Stephens multi storey, which is empty overnight except for the hotel patrons, so my 2 night stay for £170 become £185, which is bit of a shame. I know they will stay this what they are charged blah blah blah, but the car park is a £1.00, from 5.30 to midnight, so charging poor HIE car owners a further 6.50 when most are probably gone by 8.30 to me is a rip off. Staff ALMOST made up for breakfast disappointment!

I contacted the hotel in advance to ask what vegan options there would be for breakfast, and was told the porridge was vegan and I should let reception know when checking in what time we'd be going down for breakfast so they could arrange for vegan sausages to be cooked for me. When we checked in I watched as the receptionist wrote down 'vegan sausages', however when we arrived to breakfast the next morning I found out the message that had been passed over had been for vegetarian sausages. The member of staff I spoke to (Amy, I believe) couldn't have been more helpful and apologetic over the mix up, and she brought me out the packaging of the sausages that had been cooked for me to check and they were unfortunately not suitable. I had been looking forward to a hot breakfast, but the only other options on the breakfast buffet were bacon, sausage, egg, and baked beans (I don't like baked beans), so I couldn't even have mushrooms and tomatoes on toast which is often my go-to breakfast in hotels! As I said, Amy was incredibly helpful, showing me the allergen book to find out what I could have, and she offered me some hash browns, but unfortunately they would have taken too long and we didn't want to have to wait. I thought at least I'd be able to have the porridge, as I was advised when I contacted the hotel in advance, but when I looked at the (just add water) pots I realised they contained milk, so weren't in fact suitable for vegans. My breakfast consisted of a bowl of fruit compote (there wasn't even actual fruit available!) and a piece of toast and jam - very disappointing - and I had to go out and spend money on brunch elsewhere because I was starving. Another stand-out staff member was David H who was on the bar at night - he was friendly and helpful to my boyfriend, marking some suggested places to visit on a map of the area. Collapse

Located just 2 minutes walk from Hull's train station and attached to the St Stephen's Shopping Centre, the Holiday Inn Express is right in the city centre on a busy main road. Even so noise was not a problem for me on either of my 2 stays, although colleagues on the 6th floor reported a humming/excessive wind noise from a vent. Very handy for St Stephens which offers a number of eateries and a 24hr Tesco's. Reception is located on the first floor along with the bar and dining areas. Access to rooms is controlled via key card operated lifts. Discounted car parking is available in the attached multi-storey car park. Rooms are adequate if not spectacular. Clean and functional, the bathrooms are starting to look a little tired. The aircon/heating is semi-centrally controlled, but you can turn it off and adjust how hard it blows. Both of my rooms had a double bed and a sofa bed. Breakfast is typical Holiday Inn Express fayre:- cereal, porridge, fruit, plain croissants and some cooked meats but only sausage, bacon, beans and scrambled egg in the cooked breakfast stakes. In short, it does the job and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Collapse

Next to a indoor shopping centre and the train station, this Holiday Inn is ideally located for anyone visiting Hull. As its the 2017 City of Culture Hull is worth a visit, with lots if events happening on a daily basis. Our stay at the Holiday Inn was enjoyable due to having a quiet room on an upper floor and a lovely buffet breakfast in the morning. The room was clean, not too small, and had blackout curtains to help get a decent nights sleep. The only negative was not being able to open the room window to get fresh air, and having to use the air conditioning unit if the room got warm or stuffy. I would definitely stay at this Holiday Inn if i was visiting Hull again, and the price was right. Collapse
