We came back here for an overnight stop over while in London. We enjoyed our last visit and have to say that this visit was even better. The parking was full at the hotel, but the additional parking nearby was easy to access and full of spaces. As before £3 for the night. The reception staff were polite, smart and process the check in quickly. The room was a good size. Very clean and looked good. The bed as always was extremely comfortable. Great shower as well. A/C worked well enough and we had a good sleep. Breakfast the next day was well provided and superb choice. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here again and without a doubt will stay again. Collapse

The hotel itself was decent enough - a fairly standard HIX, this one with a decent evening meal selection on offer. However this was overshadowed by the poor parking options. On arrival at the gate to the hotel car park you will likely find that the half dozen or so spaces are all full, and a sign advises you to park in a nearby mutli-storey - however you will have gone past the entrance to this on a one-way street by the time you see this notice so you have to go around the block again, and then the name on the car park does not match the name on the sign at the hotel. Proceeding on you do eventually realise you are the right car park because there are numerous signs saying that hotel guests should park on level 2. Having parked, the pedestrian route from level 2 down the stairs beings you out to the side of the dual carriageway with no footpath round to the hotel which is on the opposite side from level 2, so its back upstairs and having to walk out via the ramp which cars are driving up. When you finally get to checkin you are given a pass which you have to take back to your car to display in the windscreen to avoid getting clamped. Collapse

On the evening of Wednesday 21st I phoned your Harlow branch to book 2 rooms after been let down by another small private hotel, I was put through to the reservations team who told me they had two rooms left. They stated they did not know what type of room it was and there was no way of finding out, although I was confused at the lack of information about your rooms, I went through with the booking and was told by the member of staff I needed to give my card details to “guarantee the room” Me and my colleague travelled 170 miles to your Hotel to be greeted by two members of staff on the front Desk, one named Hafeez, the other I did not manage to get the name of. I spoke to Hafeez and said that we had two rooms reserved to which he responded “we are fully booked tonight”. Confused, I repeated and stated that I phoned and reserved two rooms and gave my card details over the phone. He then told us that we should have not phoned the central booking office, and should have come directly through to the hotel reception – this makes no sense. Realising we had two rooms, I questioned how they had managed to double book two rooms, and the response was that one room was flooded, and the other was double booked. I questioned your staff as to why nobody called me to notify me, I was told that due to the fact I went through the central booking office, no contact details get given to the hotel – I find this extremely hard to believe (also curious, as I then had an apology call off the hotel manager the following morning?) I made your staff aware that we were over 200 miles from home, and had an assessment day the following morning and had to be up at 6am, the reply was “we are sorry but it is not our fault”. It was only at this stage that the other colleague became helpful and started to try and look for alternative accommodation, Hafeez continued to stand at the desk with his arms folded stating “it is not my fault, the managers are greedy, don’t care and double book the rooms”. It took a number of requests before your staff handed over the reservation number, stating that there is no point me having it because it has been cancelled. Whilst Hafeez’s colleague continued to look for an alternative hotel, I asked Hafeez if I could have a Wi-Fi Code so I could also try and find something on my phone, as at this point the time was nearing 1am. His response was “yes, wait a minute”, he then continued to work behind the Bar closing the spirit counter. Hafeez was extremely rude and when asked what we were meant to do he replied with “Sorry, it’s not my fault or problem” Whilst we were at the hotel I was given the number for your “guest relations team”, who I called, I was on the phone for a couple of minutes, I was then put on hold for 10 minutes, before getting cut off – as you can imagine, this fuelled my frustration even more. One of the most disappointing things was at no point during this ordeal were we offered any kind of refreshment; we had to ask for a drink and Wi-Fi access, this was well after 1 hour of being in your premises. Eventually the other member of staff exhausted all the local hotels and the only one with availability was one with a twin room, due to the time, we were left with no option but to go ahead and share a room. The alternative hotel was a further 30 minutes away from our final destination, and next to Stanstead airport – resulting in a very short, disturbed night’s sleep. Due to us arriving at nearing 2.30am, it had gone 3am by the time we got into the room. We did not have time to book in for breakfast, meaning we had to complete the first half of an 8 hour assessment day on an empty stomach, after a somewhat traumatic evening. Due to the double booking issue I was forced to drive a further 40 miles to the hotel and then a longer distance in the morning to our final destination. When we finally left the hotel and went to leave the car park, I couldn’t get out due to the barrier. I tried to call the hotel reception, at first there was no answer so I had to call back again, we were then given the code. This added even more delay! Compensated by covering hotel costs and 1 nights free stay. Never again will I use holiday inn. Collapse

If you are ever unfortunate enough to have to visit Harlow, perhaps the ugliest and most depressing town in England, then this can offer something of a safe haven. The hotel is well run, clean and secure. You can sit in the bar and watch the walking dead go about their business in Harlow town centre. You have to be lucky with the parking. The free car park behind the hotel is tight with only room for a dozen or so vehicles. Collapse
