We stayed here from Fri eve until Monday. We had travelled to Harlow for a family funeral. The room, which was on the second floor was very warm. We eventually found the air con which didn't reduce the temperature, rather move air loudly. It didn't always work. When we complained we got given a fan. The room is clearly set up for business men. There is no mirror above the dressing table (ooops that's a desk) but a hairdryer is situated at the floor of a whole length mirror (gone are the days when I kneel at the floor to do my hair!) There is little storage space; again geared towards one night men staying. The extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work, the window didn't open much (health and safety I suppose). You need to change your pass code for wifi, door pass and car park every 24 hours, but no one tells you that. The breakfast is "free". I can see why. After 3 days it's boring, tasteless and poor quality. They ran out of sausage and bacon at the weekend. Our room was only cleaned once. I would have hoped by 4pm that would've been done, but when I returned and was tired decided that enough was enough! There were always plenty of staff sitting out the back chatting and smoking as we parked the car! Oh, and that was also a bone of contention. The hotel car park is small, but they will give a pass for the multi storey next door. Then as you check out will sting you for a bill for it. Overall disappointing. I can't recommend. Collapse
Some good points but not enough . .

We stayed a night at the Holiday Inn Express in Harlow recently, while on a trip to nearby Duxford. On the positive side . . . The breakfast in the morning was really nice, the bacon was very good, as was the yoghurt and fruit compote. The lady who was clearing tables in the restaurant at breakfast time was super-efficient and really friendly, and looked after the place and getting tables ready for the diners really well. The staff at reception as we were leaving were also very friendly and nice, which made the check-out a completely different experience compared to the one provided by the reception on check-in the previous night! On the negative side . . . . When we arrived at the hotel the car-park was full. My wife went into reception to ask what to do and was told that we should park in the multi-storey car-park nearby. This we did. But then when we went back to reception the second time to officially check-in, we were then told by the lady at reception that we needed to place a permit in the windscreen of the car while it was in the car park! Although the car-park is only a short walk away from the hotel, after a long journey to the hotel this is not really the sort of carry on you need, so we asked why the permit couldn’t have been given to my wife when she went to reception the first time. It seems that the lady on reception ‘hadn’t thought of that at the time’! Our room was relatively big and quiet, which we had asked for. However, the bed was only a ‘standard double’ - which, these days is quite ‘small’ especially, when compared to the beds on offer in various other ‘non-expensive’ hotel chains!. It was also very ‘soft and bouncy’. We went back down to reception and asked if there was anything bigger/better available but were simply told that the beds were 'standard in all rooms'! Would we go back again? To be honest, probably not! Collapse

Hotel is very clean and staff friendly and accommodating. Location is excellent and they even let me check in early after an overseas overnight flight. However, as of 10 pm I am on my fourth room. The problem is the airconditioning system which heats up the rooms. I'm really hoping to not change rooms again as I will end up cutting short my stay and finding another hotel. Packing and unpacking an extra three times in one day is a bit much. Collapse

I've never stayed in a holiday inn before but after our stay I won't be staying again. My child was expected to sleep on a bed with a thin mattress, you could feel every spring. So unacceptable and I got an apology and a £3 parking space but nothing else. Was not what we expected at the least two beds fit for purpose! We all had to squeeze in one bed, not a good nights sleep. The bathroom was lovely however with a great shower and was clean, breakfast was ok they even let you take away if your on the run. Get some better third beds it's not fair on family's. The internet code they gave also didn't work. Really dissapointed travel lodge or premier inn for us in future, consistently good Collapse

Stayed here 2 nights never stayed in a holiday inn before staff were friendly on arrival. Check in was quick which was good as we arrived late at night. Had a problem with the toilet making noises thru the night but the staff was more than happy to move us to a new room. Rooms were clean and beds were really comfy. Wasnt sure what to expect after reading mix reviews but we found holiday inn clean comfy and friendly staff. Breakfast was great too and there was even cups to go so if you didnt have much time you could grab a coffee to drink on the go and bags for food too. Everything is close by the town center and bus station. We stayed here and went to london for a day as was easy to get to bus station right near hotel and the bus goes straight to train station and the train is direct to london only takes about 28mins or so. Plenty of parking in the multi storey carpark next to hotel too and 3quid a day if you pay thru hotel so thats good. Would definitely stay in a holiday inn express again. Collapse
