We booked this hotel to get a good night's sleep for an early start on our drive to Spain. We chose the hotel for two main reasons, Firstly, it is 'Air Conditioned' and secondly they accept dogs. Upon check-in, the first priority was to charge us the additional £15 for the dog, even though the booking had been pre-paid. Then, on the hottest day of the year, we got to our room to find the A/C pumping out hot air. A call to reception was met with an apology that the A/C system was not great, but they would re-set it and promised all would be well. It was for a while, but after a couple of hours it was obvious that the room was getting warmer again. A look at the control panel showed all the display flashing. Switching off and on again got it working again, but the pattern was repeated throughout a very uncomfortable night. You would wake up sweating, get up and reset the controls for the next 90 minutes or so. The whole benefit of the stay was completely wasted and we had to set off for a long drive feeling anything but refreshed. We have travelled all over the world where even the most modest run-down local shacks manage to have air conditioners that work, yet in European Hotels it is an absolute rarity. We didn't use to have A/C in cars very often either, but today it is an essential as things move on. Sadly not in the Hotel industry.... Collapse

We stayed here for two nights, with several other members of our family, while attending a wedding at The Old Kent Barn. The hotel is clean and tidy, with plenty of parking and an easy check-in. The rooms are fairly small, but have everything you need. The double bed was comfortable, and as my husband had a bad back and was a restless sleeper, they very kindly made up the sofa bed for me, which surprisingly was also very comfortable:) There was aircon in the room, but we actually left the windows open and it was still very quiet...the blackout curtains were also very welcome at this time of year. There was a slight mould issue in the shower, but nothing that a re-grout, or some bleach wouldn't solve. We ate in on one of the evenings as we were too tired to go out, and the menu is small and basic. However, I had the curry, which was very nice, and the freshly cooked pizza was very good. Similarly, breakfast is basic, with a limited choice, but the cooked food and toast which we had was hot and tasty. I have to say that the staff here were excellent, very friendly and helpful, any issues were dealt with immediately, and nothing was too much trouble. This is a hotel which I suspect is mostly intended for those travelling through the tunnel, due to it's location, and for that it is perfect...they even offer packed food bags for those leaving early. It's also great for those attending a wedding at The Old Kent Barn, who need overnight accommodation as we did, as it's only 10 minutes away by taxi. We booked quite a while ago, and got a good price for the rooms with breakfast, but I gather the room rate can be quite a bit higher in peak times and last minute. However, you are paying for the convenience and location, which really couldn't be better. The free wi-fi was a bonus, and we had no problem using it...many hotels that we stay in charge extra fir this! Overall, all 12 of us, plus 2 small children (nice, clean travel cot already set up and waiting) had no complaints whatsoever....as I said in my title, 'It is what it is' :) Collapse

My son and I stayed in a pre-booked twin room en-route to France via the Channel Tunnel. Location is excellent for this purpose, the terminal being a 5-minute drive away. Very pleasant reception staff had all the details in the system so check-in was quick. Room and bathroom were spotless with comfortable beds. Space is adequate and décor pretty simple as is the case in public areas of the hotel which perhaps could do with some new furniture here and there. We had no meals but owing to our early departure, the reception staff had pre-arranged for a take-away snack pack which was ready as promised at 05.30. In truth, this property is more of a motel than a hotel and as such, serves its purpose very well albeit the room rate is perhaps a tad on the high side in relation to the package on offer. Happily, the pleasant disposition of the reception staff was just as good at this unearthly hour as it was on our arrival. Collapse

Hotel is was it is an overnight stop by the Eurotunnel. Reception was friendly and efficient and our room was clean and tidy if not a little shabby and in need of decorating. Towels were so thin you could almost see though them Breakfast was adequate but the choice and quality of the evening meals was disappointing, especially as you are based in an industrial estate with no local venues. Wifi was free in the room and worked well but there was a lack of power points in the room to charge phones etc Collapse
