The Hotel initially would not give us our booked room as we did not have a voucher. This was eventually sorted when referred to the Manager. Disturbed on first floor at 3 am by noise from ground floor riotous party in bar area of some 20 wrestlers that Management did not have the resources to control. Also had corridor fire door outside our room which always slammed shut whenever used. Both points mentioned to duty Manager in the morning. Collapse

Changed jobs and new co travel policy isn’t as high £ as previous. Booked into HIE as on budget. Pleasantly surprised. Bright, clean, and quality facilities. Not as premier as their competitor and food not tried in evening. Breakfast OK though and that’s the important one. Large Morrisons supermarket nearby so takeaway handily available. Pleasant and helpful staff. Happy to use HIE for all future business trips. Collapse

Overnight stay and very pleased with this choice of Hotel. Modern, and clean all round. Excellent room with coffee making facilities. Reception Staff were thoroughly pleasant and welcoming. They were very helpful when we were having satnav/postcode problems on departure. Good choice for breakfast. What was commendable were free newspapers and hot drinks to take away. There was also a 'Grab and Go' breakfast choice. Yes, very good. Collapse

The first of two different IHG brand hotels for me this week found me staying at the HI Express in Doncaster for two nights. The location was easy to find with the postcode in the Sat-Nav, and there was plenty of convenient parking outside, even when I arrived during the late evening. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming, and soon had me on my way to my non-smoking room on the second floor, some distance away from the lift as I’d requested. My room faced the main road outside, but there was only the faintest hum of traffic noise at all times. It would appear that odd numbered rooms are the ones that face the (possibly quieter?) car park, but also the hotel entrance, so consider this if you are ultra-sensitive to noise at night. From the evacuation plan on the rear of my room’s entrance door, there appear to be slightly longer thinner rooms, and shorter fatter ones at this hotel, but the floor area is pretty much the same for both. Only rooms 224 and 114 appeared to be significantly larger in floor area from the plan. The room was typical HI Express; with the normal combined bathroom/toilet door depending on which position you have it in. The second lighting circuit for the bathroom was a nice additional touch, this illuminating a single blue LED lamp as a night light. Due to the glass vison panel into the bedroom this was a little too bright for me to leave on all night, but for any "overnight” trips to the bathroom or even first thing in the morning, it was a nice feature I’ve not seen at many other HI Express hotels before. The bathroom has another lighting circuit with bright white LED lights for more normal use. It also had the usual soap dispensers, but even these were “on a hook” rather than affixed to the walls, and there were different products for the sink and shower area too. Sadly it did have a shower curtain rather than the glass screen/door I personally prefer, but it had a mesh/vision panel higher up and was more “material” than clingy plastic thankfully. The bed was comfortable (pillow menu and mattress topper as expected) and the bed linens were also soft and pleasant. Beside the bed on both sides were USB sockets and mains outlets, plus plentiful other sockets at the good sized work desk area. Multiple lighting circuits, with separately controlled bed-side wall mounted lamps and separate reading lamps, were another welcome feature, and the sofa-bed my room came with was a nice suitcase stand out of the way during my stay. The TV was on the far end of the work desk, which turned out to be useful as the end 12” of the curtain rail behind it had (or appeared to have) snapped off, so the curtain didn’t quite block out the light fully at night. Fortunately the TV could be moved back to hold the curtain in place at night to resolve this issue. I mentioned this at checkout and the desk staff said they would have it looked at. As a member of the IHG loyalty program my WiFi was free, and during my stay I was able to stream both YouTube and Netflix content without any buffering issues or freezes. The hotel did appear quite busy if the car park occupancy was anything to go by, so decent Internet access was a welcome surprise. Breakfast had the expected “Express” selection of hot and cold items available, and it’s good to see that they are now doing a “bun and run” bread roll option in a bag to take away bacon or sausages if you are in a hurry, plus disposable cups for hot drinks too. The only slight downside during my stay was the closure of the Woodfield Inn, which is the “local” for this hotel across the car park. It was closed for refurbishment according to the signs at reception. There are other food and pub/bar alternatives nearby (around a mile away). I used the Maple Tree pub and the Beefeater at Lakeside; each were recommended by the reception staff and did a similar menu to the Woodfield Inn for around the same price, but it would be a pain if you wanted to drink and not drive as they are a bit too far to walk in the cold and dark at this time of year. The Woodfield is apparently due to reopen in early December 2017. My thanks to all the staff I met during my recent stay. Collapse

Just stayed here for 2 nights in a two bedded non smoking room and checked out this morning 29th November. Everywhere including the room was bright and sparkling clean. The room was extremely comfortable in all ways, comfortable beds, plenty of lights, quiet, wifi, great flat tv - in fact everything we could possibly have wanted. Breakfast was excellent too, comprising a variety of juices, cereals, scrambled egg (light and fluffy), bacon, sausages, various pastries, breads and fresh fruit and yoghurt. Staff were all friendly and helpful. It's our first time in a HIE but it certainly won't be our last. Collapse

We travel a lot and find that the Holiday Inn Express hotels are generally very good and one of the most reliable options in the UK, without having to spend a fortune. This one just outside Doncaster, proved to be very good. Our room on the top floor was clean, comfortable and extremely quiet. The breakfast was plentiful with hot and cold choices and all of the staff we came into contact with were friendly and helpful. Should we be this way again we would definitely stay here. Collapse
