Great Hotel for Business

This hotel was great for us. A bit of a limited breakfast but that is normal in Germany. Comfortable Beds with good showers! Very welcoming staff and very helpful. A little out from the city but good transport links nearby.

very good if you're solo or a couple, but with shortcomings if you have a family

We're a family of 2 adults with 2 children, 7 and 11 years old. We were looking for a hotel inbetween the town of Cologne, and the attraction park "Phantasialand" in Brühl, and this hotel was fitting. About 10 days prior to departure, I was able to book a family room at exceptionally good conditions in this hotel. Everything looks pretty good when you arrive at the hotel . it's fairly new, close to several restaurants (fast food and other restaurants), and there's a large, free parking in front of the hotel, as well as a gas station with shop. The check-in was fast and without problems, but when we entered the room, we immediately were welcomed by a terrible cigarette stench in the room we were given. As we don't smoke, we didn't really want such a room, we returned to the check-in and got fairly quickly another room in the second floor (first we got one in the 4th. floor, which is the top floor). That room seemed ok, but compared to family rooms in other hotels, this one seemed rather tiny. It consisted basically of one double bed, plus a sofa-bed beneath, and just enough room to walk inbetween both. While the doublebed was normal sized (queen size I presume), the sofa-bed was probably not more than ca, 140 or 150 cm wide. I first though it would be ok for the kids, but then one of both became ill, and wanted to sleep with mom, so I ended up sleeping on the sofa-bed along with my son, or at least, I tried so. How would I describe this bed accurately? -well, let's try: a bed of rocks over which you lay a thin, brick hard mattress? -nah, that sounds too comfy. It was rather an uneven torture table over which you lay a cardboard-thin mattress, so you feel every metal spike underneath, and so that you really can't possibly find a comfortable sleeping position,. Oh, and if you're more than 180 cm like me, your feed will surpass the cardboard mattress, and as cherry on top, there's only one blanket so narrow that 2 people can't possibly be covered at the same time. I went to bed early because of our sick kid (at 9 p.m.), but only fell asleep at 2:30 a.m., probably caused by exhaution due to tossing and turning. I was happy when the morning took me out of my misery. I think the hotel manager should be forced to pass a night (or two) on this sofabed to realize what the guests have to deal with, if they call that a bed. At least, the breakfast was quite good, and was even included in the low price. A good choice of continental breakfast options, with nice fresh breads, and a breakfast buffet. That saved my day, along with the excellent coffee. I forgot to mention the bathroom: it was quite small, just like the room itself, but functional, with a shower. But two people could hardly stay in it at the same time. So all in all, I don't think I would return there with the family. But if you're travelling as a couple or alone, it's certainly quite a bargain. Oh, one more thing; it's very close to the highway, and there are actually roads all around the hotel. So it's not really the most quiet location. We heard several police and/or ambulance sirenes a couple of times in the night. Collapse

If you travel by car, Holiday Inn is a good destination for staying overnight on your way. It is located in the middle of many facilities, carwash, gas station, restaurants and a good baby store. But when you go inside, it does not satisfy your expectations. The room was small and almost dark due to lack of sufficient light. The room was not clean at all, in particular its floor that covered with tiny garbages. The shower head was leaking and making annoying noise. However, it made a warm and refreshing shower. The air conditioner made the room warm but with irritating nose. The window did not stop the wind well. The breakfast was Ok and the night receptionist was kind. Not bad for one night in total. The first look at the entrance isn't nice. Dirty and old carpet on the floor. The rooms are clean and mattress is made of good quality. Smiling is optional at reception. Breakfast is good and personnel is nice and smiling. Rate per day is fair. Collapse

If you're coming here for business then you will find everything you need (no gym) If you expect to stay here because of cologne. Don't. It's a minimum of 30 minutes away. It's a blue collar hotel for business people in the area. It's not in a nice area and it's also not nice in general. But the room is clean and comfortable. The bed is great. The wifi fast and the restaurant across the street is great. Again. For business. Perfect. Collapse
