Arrived here last night and Checked in by a guy that I don't think could really be bothered we didn't get a hello or anything...oh well...it's sleep we were after. Room big and bed comfy. Shower a good size. I actually banged my eye on the bedside table. Be aware it's eye height when lying down. Tea and coffee in room. One point is...it's been put in the cubby hole sideways with kettle at the back and it's pretty awkward. Hot kettle twisting arms not much room. Accident waiting to happen.......anyways we had a good sleep apart from the head incident... Collapse

I stayed here for 3 nights in February. It was a last minute decision and our room was ready within 30 mins of booking online. We stayed in a double bedroom (sleeps 4 including sofa bed). It's situated just off of the A12 southbound, opposite a 24 hour fuel station and has plenty of free parking. It's not too far away from the town center and sites such as Colchester Zoo. Upon arrival, we were greeted with happy faces and the check-in process was simple. The rooms are a decent size and typically come with a bed, a sofa(bed), a desk, tv, AC and of course a bathroom. My first impressions of the room were great, but after being in for 10 mins i started to notice a few little issues. The first being the AC, it is very loud, even in the early hours of the morning, which isn't good if you are a light sleeper. You can stop this by adjusting the temperature to around 10-12 degrees but its then cold when you get up. The desk is great, it means you can do some work and store things. I set up my laptop and went to do some work and when i pulled the seat out, there was crumbs and what looked like paint stains on it. The headboard above the bed looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages, there was fingerprints and marks all over it. I had to get some warm water and clean it myself. Lastly, The bed is on wheels so when sitting down it often rolled about and it go a bit annoying. It's not all bad news though, in fact i was impressed with the amount of features in the room considering its classed as a budget hotel. There was wall mounted soap dispensers next to both the sink and in the shower. The lighting in the room was fantastic with loads of options, including a small blue led light in the bathroom for 'late night visits' without hurting your eyes and waking you up fully. In terms of sleeping, the mattress was average and done the job. There is 2 options for pillows, firm and soft. Plenty of plug sockets made it easy to charge up devices at the same time. Lets move on to dining. Included with each room is a free breakfast which is a massive bonus. There is plenty variety for all types of people. You have the hot food buffet including sausages, bacon, beans and scrambled egg, which you can also put on a roll on the go. There is all sorts of bread for toast and a good choice of condiments for them. You then have cold options like cereal, natural yogurt, fruit and croissants. On top of that, there is free tea, coffee, hot chocs and orange, apple, mango and tropical fruit juice. The tables were kept clean and the dining area is quite large. In conclusion, If you are looking for a budget place to stay with some average hotel features and good food this is the place for you. If you like your luxury life-style, i'd recommend you find somewhere else to stay. It serves its main purpose as a comfy place to stay for a couple nights. Collapse

At first, everything seemed ok. Room clean and staff helpful although they initially told us that they had no booking for us, they quickly sorted it out. Tried to make a coffee in the room but the milk curdled, got replacements but it happened again so had to go out and buy our own milk. The bed was dreadful, every time my husband moved, I was almost thrown out of bed because it moved so much....it was like being in a dingy in rough sea! Hardly got any sleep and ended up with a sore back. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. The evening meal was also good but vey expensive. Second night was cold so we put the heater on which was so noisy that you couldn't hear the TV.....but at least it drowned out the noise from other guests shouting in the corridor. No sleep again that night and our backs really were complaining in the morning so we decided to leave a day earlier than planned. Explained to the person on reception but he didn't seem surprised or bothered. Would not go back or recommend Collapse

I stayed here for one night for work business in Colchester. The hotel is well-situated just off the A12 with plenty of free parking on-site. The staff were polite and efficient, particularly the lady that was working behind the bar that evening. The hotel is well-kept, clean and a lot more modern and sleek compared to other hotel chains with much nicer decor. The room was good value too with breakfast included, as well as the offer of complimentary toiletries if you forgot any of your own. The restaurant food is good quality too. Overall a great stay and would definitely recommend. Collapse
