GOOD A nice hotel in La Linea, handy to stay here if you want to avoid staying in pricey Gibraltar! Free parking, free breakfast and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and have tea/coffee making facilities and the hotel is very reasonably priced. BAD Not many negatives to be honest but I suppose the breakfast could have some hot vegetarian options. There is nothing to do nearby, this is a good hotel if you're planning on travelling around Spain after flying into Gibraltar or if you are visiting Gibraltar but don't want to stay there because of the prices. It's a 20 min drive to Gibraltar from this hotel Collapse
Great value and great base for Gibraltar and Tarifa!

This location was great for us because we used it as a base to visit the Rock of Gibraltar on one day and, on the other day, to drive to Tarifa port for a day trip to Tangier, Morocco. I also enjoyed the big mall that is about 3 minutes walking distance away because we went there for dinner on both nights (they have restaurants and they also have a food court if you want.) We have 2 boys (5 and 8 years old) and the mall has a big bouncy house for 3 euros per child and they enjoyed getting their energy out on each night. (Note - that closes up at 21:00.) There is also an arcade in the mall that my boys enjoyed. The breakfast was pretty good. I do wish that they would have had hard boiled eggs. However, I appreciated that they had a sign up saying that if you wanted soya milk, to ask for it at the front desk (which I did on each of the 2 mornings there.) There is a lift to the rooms. The room was clean and comfortable. Great value especially considering that you get free parking (parking is easy and in front of the building), breakfast is included, and free wifi. I would definitely recommend this place especially to those with younger kids. Sightsee during the day and, in the evening, take the kids there to tire them out one last time before bed. Everyone will be happy! Collapse
I would stay again

Spending one night here while visiting Gibraltar. Pros: Modern, hotel seems well kept. Minute walk to small plaza with numerous restaurants, shopping, and bowling alley with video games. Barely 20 minute drive to Gibraltar. Breakfast included, typical Spanish continental style with fruits, bread, meat, cheeses, cereal. Overall good and plentiful. Free wifi in room is strong. Plenty of parking in hotel lot and adjacent area. Cool blue lighting in bathroom. Cons: The futon in the room was weird, couldn't seem to fold it up right into couch position, didn't really matter since we weren't in the room that much. Obvious the maid service didn't vacuum under the futon. Found a milky crusted spoon with the coffee tray (another clean one was available). No safe in the room. Overall this was a nice place. My cons are pretty minimal and no reason not to rebook. It is located in a typical Spanish "light" industrial area off the highway but very close to many places to eat with activities for kids. The dining menu is also reasonably priced but have not yet tried it. 19November: I have since booked another night here at the experience was great again. The room was spotless (family room w/sofa bed). This is a great base point for visiting other attractions in Los Barrios, Gibraltar, and other surrounding areas. This will become a regular booking for me when family visits. Collapse

We stayed at the HI Express for 4 nights during a recent trip to the south of Spain and as a Platinum member of IHG I was welcomed warmly and my status with their program recognized immediately. The hotel is still relatively new and due to it being somewhat off the beaten track in a developing area (adjacent to a large outlet style shopping centre and industrial park) it would appear as though the majority of the visitors are either in the area to visit Gibraltar (10 minutes away by car) or have stopped over prior to travelling further south to Tarifa in order to ferry across to Morocco. The property supplies free, on site parking which is somewhat limited but conveniently located immediately in front of the building, and on site security guards were observed to be in the area with a mobile vehicle patrol during the evening hours. Breakfast is also included which is very much like a cafeteria style arrangement with the usual selections of cold meats, cheeses, yogurts, pastries, cereals, tea and coffee. There are certainly no hot dishes available and its very much a 'no frills' kind of operation but the food selection was good especially when considering its included in the room rate. The room was well appointed and seemed to be a standard set up throughout the hotel as looking at the floor plan every room seemed to have the same shape/size. The bed was firm but not so hard that it felt like sleeping on the floor and there is a preference of pillows (soft or firm). The wardrobe was quite small, as was the television and there was no mini fridge which was a little disappointing but not the end of the world. The bathroom had a blue light installed which initially seemed odd but it was welcome to the eyes in the very early morning when wanting to visit the toilet and not being blinded. As said, the property is not particularly close to much apart from a series of large, industrial style shopping areas and there is a hyper-market (Carrefour) about a 3 minute drive away if need be. Access to/from the the highway was quick and easy and the property overall was clean and well maintained. When next in the area i will definitely consider returning to the HI Express Collapse

We stayed for three nights at the end of a touring holiday, never stayed at a Holiday Inn before. Parking was easy and the room was very nicely decorated, great to have a kettle and an opportunity to have tea/coffee any time. Very comfortable beds and enough hanging space in wardrobe for a short stay. Free breakfast was good, plenty of selection though the coffee machine could be tricky. We had dinner there on the first night, a week ago exactly. When the bread came out we were warned to be careful as it was hot, sadly the main dishes were not and I couldn't eat mine. I did mention to the waitress that it was cold but she just removed the plate, my husband had the roast pork which came with a handful of rice and a tiny bit of salad. He picked through it but the pork was very fatty, however it was cheap and we learned to dine out afterwards. For what we paid for our stay it was great value and we would stay again if in the area.
