Really nice & helpful staff and a beautiful, convenient location - and the worst night's sleep I've had in a long time. When we dropped off our bags the rooms seemed nice - clean and seemingly in good repair. The problems started after I put my daughter to sleep. We had come in and I turned on the air conditioning whilst she got ready for bed. It sounded like it was working so it was only after she was in bed that I realized it wasn't blowing cold. I tried to get it to work but to no avail. When I finally went to bed we had stripped all the covers off the duvets and were using just the covers, but it was still way too hot. And then I discovered that the bed was extremely uncomfortable, Between not being able to get to sleep barbecue I wasn't comfortable and being woken by my daughter because she was uncomfortable it was a horrid night. Needless to say we will never be staying here again. Collapse

I have to start by saying I know holiday inn is supposed to be budget, but last time we stayed in Burnley we stayed at the rosehill house hotel, it included breakfast (which was amazing) for £50 a night per room. It was £7 cheaper per night than the holiday inn and the quality of everything was much better. At the holiday inn. The lady on reception was very polite and friendly and gave us all the information we needed. First impressions were very good. The room, bathroom and whole hotel seemed very clean and nicely presented, so the cleaners are doing their job. However the tea cups in our room were dirty, full of some kind of white powder stuff? No welcome book in the room? To remind you of the breakfast times, let you know that they provide various toiletries if needed, what time they serve dinner, I don't know? Where is the smoking area? Reminding you the check out time? Do they offer laundry/ dry cleaning? Can you have breakfast/ dinner in your room? They had a dinner menu and some ihg club leaflets. A welcome book is industry standard, this needs to be sorted. When we got back from a day out, we came back to find our door had been left ajar by the cleaners, anyone could have walked in. Which understandably made us feel very unsecure about leaving the room the next day. Lock on the door is not very secure, when locked from the inside. we locked it when we went to bed, but if you wiggled the handle a bit it just unlocked and everyone could walk in. (Someone got the wrong room and opened our door and walked in at 7:30am, not impressed) I don't think the people who own, run and manage holiday inn understand that people's expectations where they are staying has increased over the years they charge £50-£65 a night in Burnley and for that price there is many other small hotels and b&b's both in Burnley and within a 10 minute drive of burnley. They all offer what is now the industry standard; biscuits with the tea and coffee in your room, they have a welcome book, toiletries, comfy bed, clean room and a good quality breakfast. They also have people spending money to eat dinner at their hotels because people enjoyed the breakfast. You spend an extra 50p-£1 per person on a better breakfast and people will come back and spend £10-£15 per person on dinner. Holiday inn restaurant at dinner was dead, which is not surprising after the unappealing breakfast. I wrongly assumed that as holiday inn was a big company they would have a comfy bed and pillows as standard. The mattress was one of those extra extra firm ones, that is just too hard for me. There was a card saying 'your choice of firm or soft pillows' but I couldn't find a soft one, they were extra firm as well. I think they should be choosing a mattress that is halfway between firm and soft then it should be ok for almost everyone. At breakfast; The plates were far too small, slightly bigger than a saucer. The same size as a slice of toast so nothing else could fit on the plate. The croissants and muffins were delicious, the coffee was ok, the cooked breakfast was very poor at the holiday inn. Cheap chipolata sausages (didn't taste great). The bacon was really undercooked, some parts of it still looked raw so I didn't want to risk it (most people like crispy bacon, I will eat it not crispy and take the fat off if needs be, but I'm not eating it that raw.) Scrambled eggs ok, bit bland but added salt and pepper and it was fine, baked beans and toast were fine. There were no yogurts left as the very large family in front of us took 3 per person (not the hotels fault). Cooked tomatoes could be added at very little cost, cook the bacon longer, add some salt and pepper to the eggs, and get some better Quality sausages, it wont cost that much more and it will inspire people to buy dinner here and come and stay again. In the current state I would not stay again. As there is the option to stay somewhere in the area that is cheaper, that has a better quality breakfast and a comfier bed. Owner of holiday inn should stay at one of the other cheap b&b / small hotels in the area that are the same if not cheaper price and see what they have to offer. Collapse

If you are looking for excitement, you are in the wrong place. As there is nothing of interest to report here. There is nothing bad about this hotel, it simply lacks any personality as is also the case for the staff. They could not be more bored even if they were forced to watch paint dry in glorious technicolour. Somehow - my experience is that a well known premier chain has more personality and that is by no means a compliment. Collapse
