Difficult to find on foot but once there very happy with the overall service. Great room with a 15th floor view, clean and quiet with good towels and television that provided a real choice. Bed a bit soft but that's a personal thing. Staff were very helpful and the restaurant staff excellent in helping find some gluten free bread both mornings. Reception staff helpful with everything including bus information in what must be very trying circumstances. Collapse

We stayed on a Saturday night in December to visit the Christmas markets in Birmingham. The check in was quick and seamless and we were given Gold chocolate bars for being IHG members which was a nice touch. The room was fine, big enough for a child and two adults. The hotel is centrally located and easy to get to from the Motorway. The big letdown was breakfast. I recognise that weekend mornings are always a challenge but empty tables were left uncleared and uncleaned, food was missing or cold, no glasses for juice and no cups for coffee. Food was replenished eventually but we ended eating our breakfast in stages with the food that was available. I have stayed at other Holiday Inns and have not had the same experience so will put this down to a one off. Collapse
Very happy with stay

Stayed for a weekend and where looked after very well, made a big effort to sort some gluten free food late in the evening. Everything else was as expected. Staff where helpful and happy to help. Check-in and checkout was very easy with no hassle.

The other-half had a meeting in Birmingham (we booked this on 27/11/17 to stay for 09/12/17) and this hotel seemed like a good location despite the ridiculous price (other hotels had similar inflated prices, were not near an over-night car park, did not have a double room available); overall good reviews, breakfast provided, NCP car park nearby and being in the business district. If you do plan to stay at the hotel and want to use the Royal Angus NCP car park, do not pre-book online as the hotel provides a 50% discount; one needs to get this validated at reception. This car park does not have car registration recognition; therefore, who those who have pre-booked, you have to press the button for assistance at the exit barrier or from the payment machine and give them your reference, the whole process was such a hassle. The hotel is a minute-walk from the main entrance, although bear in mind this takes you to the side entrance (from this entrance, there are about 4/5 steps down to get to the reception area); for the main hotel entrance, walk around and avoid the steps. The hotel reception staff were friendly and helpful, we were asked if we had a floor preference, they have 19 floors and I noticed they asked all guests for floor preferences. For some reason, they only provide one room card, which is not ideal for non-solo travellers; the lifts require the card to go up meaning if one of us was staying in the room while the other was out, the person in the room would be disturbed because they would need to go down to collect the other person. The room was ok but was in need of refurb (a few dents in the wall and needed an overall paint-job) and a proper clean (the curtains and sofa had marks in a lot of places) and the shower was nice. There were simple things with the bathroom that made a negative impact on our stay, such as the tissue box only having a few tissues, the toilet roll on the holder only had ¼ left and only one spare toilet-roll was provided. If one has forgotten any bathroom accessories like tooth brush, etc., this can be provided by reception. The bed was soft, which I found too soft although the other-half likes a soft bed; we both had a good night’s sleep. The TV has a lot of channels although one needs to give it about 5/10 minutes when turning it up to work properly. The WiFi never worked for me, I stuck to using my mobile phone data; the WiFi worked for the other-half but was slow. The breakfast service was awful; poorly managed, a lot of tables dirty, they ran out of a lot breakfast items and took a long time to replace, and the coffee was not nice; we would have been better having breakfast at a coffee shop. Excluding the price, they stay was very average but considering that it cost us £178 for one night, triple the standard price, it was not worth the cost it at all. Besides, no value-for-money; the dodgy air-con and awful breakfast were major factors, and then there were simple things like having only a few tissues in the tissue box. If one is paying £50/60 for the room then spend some money on breakfast elsewhere; going back, I wish we made it a day-trip instead of staying over or stayed away from Birmingham city centre. The other-half’s opinion, ‘can we stick to Premier Inn next time’. Collapse

Stayed here after a work conference and Christmas Party.. The hotel was in a good location and the room was a reasonable size and the bathroom was quite modern. I stayed in room 504. The heating didn't work which I unfortunately didn't find out until I got back to my room at 2am after walking back from a bar to my room in the snow and was absolutely frozen. I woke up about 30 minutes after I shut my eyes shivering and had to sleep with my winter coat and hat on! I could have phoned for reception but I didn't really want to have to move rooms and it was so late that sleeping in my coat seemed the better option. Safe to say I had a terrible sleep. I didn't have breakfast but the others I was with did and seemed pretty happy, and their heating worked so I guess they would've had a better experience than me! Collapse
