We have enjoyed the other Holiday Inn Express properties that we've stayed at and this was no exception. It was easy to reach the hotel from the train station - we just took Bus 41 to Willy Brandt Haus and walked less than a block. The room was clean and pleasant - not large but we only used the hotel room for sleeping and the bed was comfortable. There was some construction going on nearby that woke us early in the morning, but this wasn't the hotel's fault. The location is great. The street itself is quiet and pleasant, and the first day we arrived we easily walked to Checkpoint Charlie, Potsdamer Platz, and the Brandenburg Gate. Being near Potsdamer Platz is important because from there you can connect to almost anywhere in the city. The self service breakfast was ample, with an assortment of cereal, fruit, bread, cold cuts, cheeses and hard boiled eggs, as well as coffee, tea and juice. We were able to eat a hearty breakfast and then skip lunch, which saved money and gave us more time for sightseeing. There's a bar at the hotel and it was nice to come back after a long day and relax with a beer or a Berliner Weisse in the little outside garden. But the thing we liked best about the hotel was the staff. Sophie Schaefer at the reception desk is one of the most genuinely cheerful and friendly people we have come across. She made us feel welcome from the moment we checked in. She even helped my husband to arrange a small surprise gift to be sent up to our room on my birthday. We'd also like to mention Riad, who worked at the reception and tended the bar in the evening. They both deserve recognition for outstanding customer service. We will certainly stay at the Holiday Inn Express City Centre the next time we are in Berlin. Collapse

Stayed here in July 2017 with myself and partner in one room and two friends staying in another. Reading reviews of this place it's easy to see that's it's location is well placed near some of Berlin's sights and restaurants. Also check out th steak house a few streets away - lovely food! All that said we had a very mixed experience at this hotel. Check in was easy and surprised that our room was ready when we arrived at about 12:30. We did however realise later that we weren't told anything about breakfast times, wifi etc but there are signs around the hotel telling you good/busy times for food. There was also a guide in the room. We went to our friends room first to sort out bags; nice clean room and what you'd expect from holiday inn. Then went to our room and were surprised we were in a fully accessible room. This was ok but felt strange as didn't need the features this room offered - phone next to the toilet (remember that episode of friends?) red pull cords and alarms around. Later that evening I had a shower and realised it was terrible! No power to it and because the room was wheel chair friendly water goes all over the floor. We then tried to sleep but realised the bed was tiny (!). We're both average build 5ft 8 and spent the night spooning for fear of falling out. This was followed by building work starting at around 630. Berlins an amazing city with lots of building so some noise is always expected but this felt very early and the noise prof windows don't seem to help. The following morning went to reception to raise concerns. This is where it went wrong. Spoke to a gent, didn't have name badge on, and felt like an argument broke out with him. All my concerns were met with challenge; the noise complaint was met with 'they start at 7 not 630' (ok let's not split hairs it's still early and I'm still awake) - it also felt like he was telling me the other side of the hotel is much noiser and felt petulant in the tone. bed size complaint was met with 'they are all like that across europe' - turns out not to be true - see pics - pillows same size but look at gap differences - plus you get two blankets. regardless we were moved later that afternoon but felt this conversation could have been better managed - this conversation tainted the whole stay at this hotel and on that alone I wouldn't recommend staying here. The conversation annoyed me, while we were moved no apology or care was given. New room we were moved too was much nicer - a members room. It faced the road but road noise is much better than building work and you can hardly hear the traffic to be honest. Shower 1000x better and, despite all the beds being 'the same size across europe', this room had a bigger bed! Not the most comfortable bed (our friends said the same about there beds) They are just a little hard and the pillow choice is either extremely soft or very hard. The blanket it also very thick for summer. We also found that we woke up early due to not a comfortable nights sleep - we averaged about 5/6hrs sleep a night before admitting defeat and getting up. Our friends said the same but they felt it was noise that woke them; they were on a much lower floor. While the room was good; nice size, good shower, places to store thing, the aircon isn't the best and we found the room very dusty. Breakfast at the hotel is nice; good mix of food items but some perhaps feel a little random. Quality of the food was nice but they seemed to often run out of some items like melon so sometimes you need to go back - which is fine as you can get up as many times as you like. Staff clearly work hard here in a busy space. The hotel has a nice bar area but ask the price before you order - a friend paid €12/13/14ish for a large glass of wine. True it was nearly the size of a bottle but seemed excessive. A beer is around €5 which seems ok for a hotel. Overall; good location, fairly nice rooms but perhaps pot luck which one you get, but my experience with reception enough to stay that next time I visit Berlin later this year I won't be booking this hotel. Not much choice at the bar and no food (although there's plenty of local restaurants) Easy to get to places and a 20 euro taxi fare from the airport. Buses are right opposite the hotel if you want to save a cab fare. If it had at least a mini gym I'd have scored it higher. Collapse

We chose this hotel because it was one of the few that could accommodate more than 2 people. I was traveling with my two teenage sons (ages 15&17) so we had a room with a double and a single bed. This hotel is very convenient to public transit - both busses and trains. There are also several restaurants nearby and a grocery directly across the street. We had no problems with the WiFi and the breakfast was plentiful with lots of choices. We also found the front desk staff extremely helpful. We had one issue to mention, the room we were given when we first arrived did not have A/C that I felt was very cold. A quick call to the front desk and they immediately gave us another room which the A/C was a bit better. All in all, a great hotel for the price. Collapse
