Holiday inn express are almost as basic as it gets, however you know that when booking. Check in was relatively simple with good English spoken. Payment is up front with the detailed invoice being given to you upon departure. The rooms are pretty basic but clean with a good powered shower in the bathroom. The evacuation came as ambit of a surprise at 02.20 this morning, but everyone left in an orderly fashion. It turned out to be caused by someone smoking in their bedroom. I was surprised that as the smoke alarm had been activated that the fire service did not appear to have been called to ensure the building was safe ( particularly after the recent dreadful fire in London) Breakfast was ok Collapse

We stayed here for the convenience of exploring the Poblenou area of the city. It is located 3 min walk from the Rambla in Poblenou. The hotel rooms are clean and modern. Just big enough for two adults for a few days. The hotel offers a typical European hotel breakfast buffet. The metro station of Llacuna is a 15m walk away, Pavements are reasonable for pushing wheeled cases along. The area has much to see along the Rambla with plenty of bars and resaurants leading down to the sea front. A walk to the beach is a 15 min stroll. The hotel staff were freindly and accomodating. Not many people can be seen eating or drinking in the hotel at lunch or dinner, but to be fair they have a lot of competition a few minutes walk away. Collapse

This hotel is nothing special but was clean and suitable. The breakfast was good the first day but it's exactly the same every day so it got boring. They are very stingy with towels and do not want to give you more than one per person per day which is odd. We were also surprised that there was no pool in such a warm climate. The staff was very nice here though so that was a plus. Collapse

Let me start with the positives as my experience here was mostly good. The staff was terrific, both the front desk staff and the staff handling the complimentary breakfast. The room was clean and quiet, everything worked, the shower was hot and powerful. The bed was very comfortable. The ventilation system allowed for the room fan to be left constantly on, a feature I always look for. The temperature control in the room worked quite nicely and the room was well lit. The room's window opened just enough to let in the sounds of the city and some fresh air. The room size was certainly adequate, but by no means palatial. I stayed for six nights. The breakfast featured exactly the same menu each of the mornings I was there. The choices were good, standard European breakfast fare, but the lack of variety got a bit old for me. The breakfast staff kept the buffet very well stocked and the dining room was spotless. A very nice job. The location is extremely convenient to public transportation, both the subway and bus lines. The eastern trams (light rail) are a five minute walk through a fun neighborhood. Speaking of neighborhoods, the hotel is right on the boundary of two very different neighborhoods. The walk from the nearest subway station, Llacuna, is only two blocks long and is perfectly safe, although the buildings along the route are somewhat worn down, not in a quaint way, and the streets are pretty empty, leaving the walker feeling a bit wary. The Llacuna stop is to the west of the hotel. Moving east of the hotel one immediately finds oneself in a vibrant and very fun neighborhood full of many restaurants, shops, ice cream stores and wide pedestrian malls. There is even a large, full service grocery store just two blocks from the hotel in this fun area. To get to the hotel from the subway via this neighborhood is a slightly longer walk, maybe a total of eight to ten minutes--take the subway one stop east of Llancuna. In summary, this hotel is clean, well staffed and quiet. The room is good, but not huge. The location is good, being only a block or so away from both the subway, buses and a wonderful neighborhood. The price was a bit steep for what I considered a mid-range three star experience. The hotel is not a destination in itself, but if you can get a good price on a room, it works great as a base of operations for seeing the rest of the city. I would not hesitate to stay there again. Nice Stay in the Middle of the City

Good place if you want to be in the midst of action. Barcelona has a lot to offer for everyone. We had a comfortable stay. Food options are also good. though less choices for vegetarians !! Staff is helpful. Rooms are clean and good.
