This hotel is nothing special but was clean and suitable. The breakfast was good the first day but it's exactly the same every day so it got boring. They are very stingy with towels and do not want to give you more than one per person per day which is odd. We were also surprised that there was no pool in such a warm climate. The staff was very nice here though so that was a plus. Collapse
Great Staff, Property a Bit Overpriced

Let me start with the positives as my experience here was mostly good. The staff was terrific, both the front desk staff and the staff handling the complimentary breakfast. The room was clean and quiet, everything worked, the shower was hot and powerful. The bed was very comfortable. The ventilation system allowed for the room fan to be left constantly on, a feature I always look for. The temperature control in the room worked quite nicely and the room was well lit. The room's window opened just enough to let in the sounds of the city and some fresh air. The room size was certainly adequate, but by no means palatial. I stayed for six nights. The breakfast featured exactly the same menu each of the mornings I was there. The choices were good, standard European breakfast fare, but the lack of variety got a bit old for me. The breakfast staff kept the buffet very well stocked and the dining room was spotless. A very nice job. The location is extremely convenient to public transportation, both the subway and bus lines. The eastern trams (light rail) are a five minute walk through a fun neighborhood. Speaking of neighborhoods, the hotel is right on the boundary of two very different neighborhoods. The walk from the nearest subway station, Llacuna, is only two blocks long and is perfectly safe, although the buildings along the route are somewhat worn down, not in a quaint way, and the streets are pretty empty, leaving the walker feeling a bit wary. The Llacuna stop is to the west of the hotel. Moving east of the hotel one immediately finds oneself in a vibrant and very fun neighborhood full of many restaurants, shops, ice cream stores and wide pedestrian malls. There is even a large, full service grocery store just two blocks from the hotel in this fun area. To get to the hotel from the subway via this neighborhood is a slightly longer walk, maybe a total of eight to ten minutes--take the subway one stop east of Llancuna. In summary, this hotel is clean, well staffed and quiet. The room is good, but not huge. The location is good, being only a block or so away from both the subway, buses and a wonderful neighborhood. The price was a bit steep for what I considered a mid-range three star experience. The hotel is not a destination in itself, but if you can get a good price on a room, it works great as a base of operations for seeing the rest of the city. I would not hesitate to stay there again. My husband is a Spire Elite member with Holiday Inn. He travels extensively for work and frequently uses IHG brand hotels. We booked three nights in Barcelona and decided to use the points that he has earned for our stay. Usually, when he checks in the staff thanks him for his continued loyalty to Holiday Inn. When we checked into the Barcelona Holiday Inn Express her first comment was about the fact there was a limit as to how many nights could be booked using points. This was not an issue for us because our stay was so short. It was unpleasant way to be greeted by the hotel staff. Rooms are tiny to say the least, barely enough room for two adults and a child. Location is good. Neighborhood is nice and within walking distance to the Mediterranean Sea. Breakfast was terrible. No decent coffee. We are out every morning after that. Collapse
