A one night stay in this central location served its purpose as a convenient stop on our way to the WWW1 battlefields. Easy access from cheap commercial centre car park below to reception and up to our smallish, but sufficient room. Central location close to a wide range of shops and dining options and a pleasant base for an early Saturday evening stroll. Basic breakfast and smooth checkout procedure and we drove on to the quiet Sunday morning streets refreshed and satisfied that this hotel had delivered good value for money. Collapse
A good place to stay

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting Amiens for a short break. What a pleasant surprise! Couldn't really have asked for more from a Holiday Inn Express and I would certainly recommend this hotel based on our experience. As I have no real complaint I will talk you through some key points of our experience and the hotels location and hopefully pass on some useful information. Firstly, we arrived late at night from the UK. We are often worried when doing this at a hotel we haven't used before that we won't be able to find a parking space. Even more so in the centre of a town that is holding a large Christmas market. We needn't have worried. There is a very large underground car park - at least 2 floors underground but maybe even 3 floors. The spaces are a bit tight, as are some of the corners but this is no worse than any of the many other french hotel car parks I have used. The rate is very reasonable too at 7Euros per 24hours. It is also worth noting that the car park appears to be independent and not part of the hotel, but regardless of this we experienced no problems and saw nothing untoward. Check-in was seamless - the receptionist couldn't have been better or friendlier and had us checked in in a matter of moments and we were away to our 3rd floor room. The room was the standard HIEx offering - very clean, comfortable, large bed with a nice bathroom and powerful shower. The room had a coffee machine and good heating which we were very grateful for when the temperature was -3 outside. Breakfast - again the standard Holiday Inn Express offering - a continental breakfast with plenty of choice included with every single room including the option of cooking yourself a boiled egg. Very well managed and tables were quickly cleared as people left. Although it was busy both days we had no problem getting a table and nothing had been allowed to run out. I have read reviews about there only being one person to manage the breakfast, reception and bar - this for the most part is true but they do an excellent job of it. Location - This really is one of the highlights of this hotel. You couldn't ask for a better location whether you are arriving by car or train. The railway station is just a couple of minutes walk (next door). The centre of Amiens is also on the doorstep. At the time we went the Christmas Market was on (until January I think) and we stepped out of the hotel and across the street to the left was the big wheel at the start of the Christmas market. There are more bars, restaurants and eateries within walking distance than you could ever need. All in all this is an excellent hotel. If a Holiday Inn Express is your sort of accommodation then this is a solid example of one and I can only recommend it. Collapse
We were just unlucky!

Amiens is not a place which I think I would want to visit often and is one where I have never been before but I was en route from Calais to Nice and it was a reasonable night stop location. Being an IHG member I tend to look for the IHG hotels. This hotel is in the middle of town and really it is in a rather difficult place to access - you need to keep your wits about you because of the mad drivers and the day we went there were road works blocking off routes all over the city. It was mayhem. Anyway the hotel itself does have its own parking, again quite difficult to access. It is a typical Holiday Inn Express. I felt the young man who booked me in was rather surly - indeed I found that no one in this city seemed able to crack a smile. We really drew the short straw because we were put on the fourth floor along with a school group of sorts - sad to say from England. We probably had the worst night I have ever spent in a hotel. The youngsters were drinking in the corridor; smoking on ther balcony and they had notes on their doors suggesting that "visitors were welcome". It was like a brothel. We went to bed circa 10 pm and they continued to "party" and bang around all night. At 3 am enough was enough. We had people actually banging on our door. We called reception. They already seemed to be aware of the problem but happily the noise stopped shortly after - that is until about 5 am when it started again and people once again started banging on doors, including ours. I cannot deny that it was actually intimidating. When we came out for breakfast a man was there who turned out to be the deputy manager and I told him what a terrible time we had had. He was clearly pretty unhappy too and said that they had cases of beer in their rooms and were just causing trouble all the time. At breakfast their teachers were there and we made it clear what we thought. When we left we were quite gratified to be told that there would be no charge as compensation for the bad time we had had. Top marks to the deputy manager for this - we were going to ask for compensation but he beat us to it. I don't knock any marks off for their behaviour as they did their best to put it right but I think they could have thrown these people out. I must apologise to the hotel for the fact that it was a British group which was responsibled for this appalling behaviour. It made me ashamed to feel they were of the same nationality as us. A load of teenage louts who frankly should not be allowed out on the street. As regards the other aspects of the hotel, the breakfast was okay - I have had better but at least I could boil my own eggs which I liked doing. I can't say I have fond memories of this city. Short walk to that vast eclectic run of restaurants on the banks of the Somme. Super clean rooms, a bit on the small side as expected but well fitted out and very quiet for city centre. Well run breakfast room with ample choice and promptly cleaned tables. A pleasant surprise overall. Collapse
