The hotel is set in the Crichton Estate which is beautiful. The hotel feels like a clash in this beautiful estate as it is modern and bright blue in colour! Guess the town planners had a good debate about building it! Anyway, this hotel is perhaps in the finest location of any hotel I have stayed in in the UK. The hotel is good for a Holiday Inn but expect simplicity and not boutique. I went running around the estate and down to the river which takes you into town. Awesome on a summer evening! (the river isn't the easiest to find so ensure you get accurate directions). Food was fine and not badly priced - would recommend trying the triple cooked chips (not for those on a diet!). Breakfast had a good selection. Room large, bright and well maintained. No bath but good shower. The aircon didn't appear to cool which was disappointing but typically British. The windows open and the car park and main road were very quiet during the evening. No fridge or mini bar. Free wi-fi but I could only get a signal by the window for my laptop. Didn't try video streaming so can't comment on bandwidth Very poor O2 mobile signal but obviously not the hotels fault! As usual, the Scottish staff were very friendly and helpful. Town is a few miles away so exploring a little will need to be by car (walking from the train station took 45 minutes). Picture is the view from the restuarant. Collapse

This hotel really is a little gem set in beautiful surroundings. The cleanliness of the rooms and hotel are exceptional and great credit must be given to the staff. A special mention must be given to Gary and Claire who provide exceptional service to guests of all age groups and I am amazed they are not running their own hotel. Its nice that they gave a Yorkshire man such a warm welcome and tips on the great food offered on the menu. I wish them well with their wedding in July and I wish I had asked for an invite because I am sure it will be a blast. Its so nice to be able to thank such staff and they and all of the other staff are a credit to this hotel. I cannot wait to return again to have the chicken curry again and as Claire guaranteed the crumble and custard was to die for. Collapse

The hotel is clean comfortable and should tick all the boxes.....BUT: On arrival revisited reception twice as door cards issued did not work. Resulted in staff visiting room blaming batteries in door lock. Day 2 realised no hairdryer in room as should have been and on depart was promised would be attended to. On return at night again cards failed and yet again 2 visits to reception before new cards issued. Hairdryer had not been placed in room as promised so more trouble. Showers also poor pressure. If these simple attention to detail matters were sorted would be happy but overall fed up with poor service received! Collapse

We really enjoyed our stay here. Firstly, Hayley, the receptionist, was very welcoming and we had an efficient check in. Rooms are spacious, beds very comfortable, bathroom clean and everything it should be, fluffy white towels, toiletries etc. There is tea and coffee, kettle, milk, perhaps a small pack of biscuits would have been nice. Rooms with an odd number overlook the car park, we had one of these and it wasn't a problem. Our daughter had a room across the corridor which looked over the lovely park, however, the afternoon sun was shining in and made the room very hot. Ours was much cooler. My only criticism of this hotel would be the air conditioning in the room and the dining area downstairs, was not effective. We were part of a wedding party and we all commented on this. Breakfast was excellent, they only have scrambled eggs on the buffet, but if you ask, they will cook you fried or poached eggs to order. There is an excellent outside area where you can enjoyed a drink in the sunshine, overlooking the beautiful estate. The Holiday Inn is situated inside the Critchton Estate, with its cathedral style church, built in red sandstone, as are all other original buildings on this gorgeous estate. The perfect wedding venue, with the Holiday Inn right on your doorstep. Collapse

What an excellent stay we had here, an executive ground floor room, pet friendly with massive grounds outside to wander round - ideal for fergus our dog. Good food, great service, nice bar area inside and out.
