Had always wanted to stay at this hotel from being very small. Think it was its unusual shape and the lovely green ivy all around the outside. When we arrived the ivy had gone, whether this was temporary or permanent I don’t know. Our arrival was difficult as there were major road works at the Scotch Corner roundabout and finding the way into the car park was not easy to say the least. Yes it was all coned off but there were so many other cones in the area it made finding the entrance difficult. Check in too was not straight forward. The booking was made through the Holiday Inn site but we were initially asked for double the room charges we expected! The receptionist did however rectify this quite quickly. We were directed to our rooms which were on the ground floor but were not told that we could use the pool etc. The rooms were fantastically quiet despite all the traffic noise outside. They were fine, but perhaps a little on the small side. The bedding sheets etc. had seen better days, the toilet bowl was disgusting and for those of you like us who feel the door to the bathroom should not be see through, you may wish to reconsider your views on modesty! To the restaurant for a family tea. Lovely setting and a pleasant greeting on arrival. I’m afraid things go downhill from now on. After a wait of 15 -20 mins no one came to take an order for drinks or food. So it was down to do it yourself! We placed our orders at the bar. The drink arrived after 10 mins or so but the wait for food was considerable, at least 45 mins! The food arrived cold; we sent back 2 of the 4 ordered as these were not even served at a safe food temperature. This then meant that half of us had food and the other half didn’t so eating together as a family was out! The food eventually arrived and was at a satisfactory temperature. It was pleasant but definitely not outstanding for the prices charged. (Very expensive for what you get) We were compensated with 2 drinks, but were disappointed to find the Pina Colada had no taste of “Pina”! in it , merely coconut cream, pineapple and ice. Eventually we tried to pay. Unfortunately a bus tour arrived at this point and they formed a queue at the bar. There were only three staff serving them and they were not interested in taking our payment. The queue was still there some half hour later.. In the end we gave up and paid at checkout the following morning. Overall a just barely satisfactory experience overall. Holiday Inn needs to up their service standards and customer care here if they want more positive feedback. They also need more staff on duty in the bar and restaurant. Have had far far better stays at a Holiday Inn Express! Wouldn’t go back. Collapse

Arrived Thursday evening and 6 of us ate in the restaurant, food was very nice. Friday breakfast was acceptable but the home made fruit salad had a fizzy taste. Reported it. On arriving afterwards to our room door we found that none of our entry fobs would work. Reported it. Saturday morning yet again the fruit salad was fizzy, indicating the melon was not fresh. Reported it. Opted then to try the cooked breakfast which was not hot. Foreign tourists were seen searching for milk for cereal, searching for sliced bread which was not visible. Various juices were visible but not labelled.... they didnt know what the juices were and ended up pouring 2 glasses of what appeared to be cranberry juice and water out and trying others. Saturday night we all had a bar supper 7 of the 10 complained about our meals...the battered fish was dry and the batter was greasy. Once again our bedroom key fobs did not work. Reported. Sunday morning breakfast was better and hot. Sunday evening there were only 4 of us and we had a meal in the restaurant. Better quality. Key fobs again did not work. Reported Overall the rooms were very clean and beds very comfortable but the meals were very disappointing on the whole and it was extreme annoying to have to keep returning to Reception to get our room fobs reset. The hotel is comfortable and every member of staff from cleaner to Reeption amd waiting staff was pleasant and attentive but when reporting complaints about the food nothing was offered as an alternative choice and key fobs are an issue that need addressed. The hotel is in an ideal geographical situation for tourists and business people or for those like us at ending the car racing at Croft...just please listen to your guests and remedy the negatives. Two different reviews - I stayed here for one night as meeting family. My parents were put in an annex off the main hotel and their room was very small and they struggled with the bathroom being small.I am sure if they had told reception they would have been re-allocated another room due to them being disabled. But my room was in the main hotel on the second floor and I cannot fault it! It was clean, it was the biggest bed I have ever slept in, the bathroom was fantastic. I found the staff helpful (especially when my bathroom fan wouldnt turn off), the hotel was clean, the prices reasonable, breakfast was good. I would stop here again and specify where I wanted to stop. I felt safe here as a single lady stopping on my own and the room was one of the best ive stopped in, large, bright, clean, had a fridge. I will stay again when seeing family. was a lovely treat for me as the room was lovelyx Collapse

Bar meal was way below expectations. Part of meal cold and unconvincingly fresh. Having said that, compensation was adequate, although the evening was spoilt. Staff were very pleasant and helpful although somewhat robotic in their delivery of an apology. Some training required in this aspect. Room keys to executive room did not work so repeated visits to reception required. This was unacceptable. Greetings on arrival at reception was very poor. No information given on breakfast times or room departure. Very cold welcome and training required here. Arrival on July 21st around 5:00pm. I have had repeated issues with this establishment and the management of the facilities remains suspect. Hopefully, if you decide to book you will benefit from this review. Collapse
